• New Idling Method - In-game idling made reliable
FYI, it just creates a high FPS config that you can use on idle servers so you don't use as much electricity. :eng101:
Yes, part of the script is to execute a high FPS cfg file for idling [+exec idle.cfg] and to execute your original autoexec.cfg for playing [+exec autoexec2.cfg] [the script renames autoexec.cfg to autoexec2.cfg so it isn't automatically executed when TF2 starts for idling] Along with copying your registry settings for the video config of TF2, which is also another legitimate way to change your video settings. The rest of the script is just a set of "if / then" from within cmd.exe to read a .txt file that TF2 dumps [official TF2 console feature] and writing into another cfg file [autocon.cfg]. Autocon.cfg is being re-read over and over by TF2 [ alias autocon "exec autocon.cfg;wait 500;autocon" ]. So when autocon.cfg is edited by cmd.exe to include "retry", then on the next loop of "autocon", TF2 reads the .cfg file and executes what's in it. All clean and pure.
This is still detectable. Not by any checksums or DLL lists, but by the stats system. TF2 records how long you've been playing, and all the various things you do. Valve can just look through the logs, see that in 8 hours you didn't move at all, and hit you with the hat hammer.
I never claimed the script was SAFER than in-game idling. I said it was THE SAME. So if you believe Valve will come after in-game idlers, then why even be interested in making your non-existent idling more convenient?
I'll stick to normal idling ingame thanks than using scripts. I got accused of cheating but not actally caught and I dont want to be. I dont want Gabe coming after me on TF2 with his Ban Hammer.
Suit yourself. I can't teach everyone why batch scripts in cmd.exe will never ever be something Valve will go after. If Valve goes after anybody, it will be ALL in-game idlers, that includes people who use my script, and people who don't [but still idle]. May as well make it convenient as the risks are the same.
Yeahh I think I'll pass, mister registered-same-month/7-posts-and-advertising-a-thread-that-was-introduced-by-a-*channer [editline]02:42AM[/editline]
The script does not send any commands to anything that isn't already included in your copy of Windows, which makes it perfectly safe.
I know there isn't any malicious code in the script itself but how in the hell is that an argument?

It is still an external program (the command prompt, cmd.exe) that is being used to give players an "unfair advantage" over other players. And how could they check it? Look for what cfg's the batch file creates. An autoexec.cfg with a given script, as well as an autoexec2.cfg (they wouldn't even have to peek at the contents of this). They can already check for consistencies in material files, I don't think text is going to be any harder.
im gonna try lul

Nice and dictate what cfg script can be written? uhhhh okay anyway, since you're all thinking this is 1984, go ahead, idle or dont idle, do it how you want. Good bye.
LOL as if Valve will target all users who have cmd.exe running while TF2 is running. Good bye.
They're not going to target users who only have cmd.exe open, they're going to target users who specifically have this batch script. And they can do so by checking cfg's. Not dictating what they say. You yourself said that this write a few specific cfg's.
Yes, part of the script is to execute a high FPS cfg file for idling [+exec idle.cfg] and to execute your original autoexec.cfg for playing [+exec autoexec2.cfg] [the script renames autoexec.cfg to autoexec2.cfg so it isn't automatically executed when TF2 starts for idling]
So they check for an "exec idle.cfg" in the appropriate folder. If there is a file named that, they can say "ok, you've cheated, have fun with no hats". Or they could check the contents of that file, and if it matches what's written by the high FPS cfg that is created by running this batch, they can again say "ok, you've cheated, have fun with no hats".
I'm a daredevil, I'll hit it when L4D series stops being awesome. [editline]11:21PM[/editline] Nope, Not yet
I'm not going to bother idleing this time. To be honest, I don't really care anymore.
Also, this is more or less what they said EXACTLY about steamstats, look what happened then.
More idling? Oh just fuck off already.

[editline]04:56PM[/editline] It is not an external program, unlike the idler, therefore it isn't against the EULA.
I think we have all learnt a lesson from the Halocaust.
I think we have all learnt a lesson from the Halocaust.
Obviously not. I idled with SteamStats, and ever since the mass deletion and shitstorm thereafter, I've decided not to touch anything related to idling with a ten foot pole. Plus, while I idled, I never got a single hat anyway - that took actual playtime, and I finally got my first hat while playing a game of 2Fort. There's something about playing and then wham, you got a hat... it's a lot better than letting a program run overnight or sitting in a server all night and then discovering that you have a hat. This is tempting but I'll stick to just playing the game.
Hats, too. Valve's gonna crack down on this one just as they did with the old idler.
The only way Valve detected which people used the other idler it's because it connected the people to a fake server with thousands of slots and for Valve to see which servers people have connected to since they bought the game is probably a peace of cake.
I'm sorry, but it just isn't worth the risk. I only want the camera beard, the ushanka, and the Pyro's beanie. It isn't worth the risk of losing all my stuff, in my opinion. All of my items are originals, earned through the Milestones. I truly don't want to lose them.
anyway, since you're all thinking this is 1984, go ahead, idle or dont idle, do it how you want. Good bye.
Oh what an injustice, how dare Valve want us to not cheat in their game. Next they'll expect us to not murder crippled children! Infringement of our freedom, I say.
Put your idea in the box I just gave you
Come and cry/whine/flame when valve removes your stuff and gives us a double halo...
I have to report this to Robin! To the batmobile!
How are they going to ban this? Ban everyone that runs the game at 640x480 with low settings?
ITT: Kids who think they're smarter than Valve
thanks for the link! dirty idlers ftw! give dirty idlers satan's horns! etcetc
Getting "Can't find file ~12/steam.exe."
This script is meant for people who currently idle in-game already.

Hence, no way in hell it is VAC bannable
You get Vac Banned for Scripts.
Getting "Can't find file ~12/steam.exe."
You have to run RunOnce.bat to setup the script first. You probably lost your video config now, hope you didn't have too much trouble re-configuring your video config. Next revision will prevent that from happening [prevent user errors] Anyway, any questions about the script should be done on the sourceop forums.
You get Vac Banned for Scripts.
Dumbass

Getting Couldn't allocate any hltv IP port now
I set this up before when they had you do everything manualy. I got me a hat <3
Couldn't allocate any hltv IP port
Please address your questions in the sourceop thread linked on the first post here. Your hltv port has nothing to do with the script. I'm guessing you had it assigned in autoexec.cfg which is not being executed in idle mode. add to idle.cfg [you should know where your cfg files are contained please God]
tv_port 27029
default tv_port is 27020 If you get any other "cannot allocate client port or whatever", try this too
clientport 27009
