People ragging about Max are like people ragging about Facepunch.
Ehhh, no, I love Facepunch, sadly, I don't know Max in real life, so, can`t talk about him, but we do about his work,
Looking at all the shit Max has to put up is quite sad: He can't do anything without someone bitching about it. It's even gotten WORSE now that he's a mod, but that's due to the controversy around him becoming a mod and his first steps as a mod. People ragging about Max are like people ragging about Facepunch.
Give it a few months, it'll quiet down just like it does for everything else.
Do you know what might be a twist? Practical Problems for best Overall. (insert collective gasp) Really, Max had a great video, but best Overall means best Overall. I was nearly under the impression that best Overall wouldn't and couldn't be any of the previous winners (though why I formed that assumption, who knows).
Give it a few months, it'll quiet down just like it does for everything else.
Months? This'll calm down in like a few days.
The way I see it, Wishmaker had a lot of potential to have some creative wishes, but instead has predictable twists in them, like the scout getting actual chicks instead of girls.
we had a ton of ideas but not enough time :v:
Months? This'll calm down in like a few days.
It's been like this ever since Max was modded, though.
we had a ton of ideas but not enough time :v:
you had a lot of time to make that video the saxxy's were announced in August well over 4 months to create that video and you said you didn't have time, I call bullshit
It's been like this ever since Max was modded, though.
Maybe it's due to fear of moderation retribution :funnyjoke:
we had a ton of ideas but not enough time :v:
You could have gone with one of the more creative ideas for wishes. The Scout wish was very predictable. Although it did get a chuckle from the sudden appearance of hundreds of baby chicks. The Soldier wish didn't make sense at all. A new roommate means a new roommate, not the same roommate he's had for years. I needed someone to explain to me where the funny was in that one, and even after the explanation it was not humorous. Let's hear what got canned in favor of these two wishes.
You can't deny that the animation in wishmaker was superb, some of the best ive seen in a while also the voice acting was really good
You can't deny that the animation in wishmaker was superb, some of the best ive seen in a while also the voice acting was really good
Medic's voice acting sounded a bit off and "I HAVE NO IDEA" was kind stupid.
we had a ton of ideas but not enough time :v:
Just because you decided to start 2 weeks before the deadline doesn't mean you didn't have enough time, it means YOU didn't want to have any more time, so don't complain about that.

Let's hear what got canned in favor of these two wishes.
This noted, the best jokes in Wishmaker were not spoken at all. They were a result of comedic timing. The way the Heavy briefly looked over the wand before trying to eat it, and the sudden appearance of many baby chicks. I'll use some of the competition as an example: Practical Problems. As it has no speaking roles, the entirety of the humor is based on timing and character reactions to events. With the Spy gag, it played with the viewer's expectations, as most people would predict that the Engineer was sicking the Spy on the other, instead of using the Spy as a distraction so he can whack him with a wrench. Same goes for the Sniper gag, where the rifle was taken out of his hands in order to get the job done, shortly being followed by a blue dot making its way towards the confused Sniper's head before cutting away to a different scene. The Demoman gag played with a countdown that people are familiar with: 3-2-1. Lobbing one mine onto each side, then one dead center, then an explosion. So many forms of media have trained us to adhere to rules of 3; Wishmaker had just 2 wishes, and while it may be due to time constraints, it feels like an abrupt end. Generally there's an introduction, a middle area, and then the conclusion -- Wishmaker just sort of skipped the middle for time efficiency. I know this feedback is too little too late and it won't change the outcome of the Saxxies either way. But hopefully it'll help you improve your ability to make something funny -- this applies outside of animation, by the way.
Y'know on the side I was really hoping Max wouldn't win just so we wouldn't have the inevitable shitstorm going on, but triumphant animation beats all apparently so yeah...
Not to mention, since we didn't see the Heavy actually getting hold of the Sandvich, the nomming at the end seemed...random. It also gave me the impression that something was missing, it kinda made it obvious that it was left incomplete.
these things always seemed rigged. amateurs seem to never really get a chance while those with years upon years of experience will inevitably win.. case in point, max and previously mentioned, some guy who works for bioware. these things should be restricted to novices and advanced rather than "i can make a work of art in less time than you can make something even worthy of comparison to mine"
Professionals have bills to pay, portfolios to build, and full-time hours to work, too, you know. Competitions related to the industry you're a part of are often crucial and necessary things, especially for people still starting out their careers in an often unstable field.
Had I known the replay section would've been that much of a joke I would've submitted something. If only you could've submitted old content.
Max? Are you still alive?

practical problems was well put together and i love how he got creative with motion capture, but it wasnt funny. at its worst it was drawn out and overplayed. granted none of the comedy entries made me laugh so i really had nothing more to go on than production value.
Respect other people's opinions, no matter how asinine you think it is.
I'll start respecting other people's opinions when they stop having wrong opinions /edgyteen
you had a lot of time to make that video the saxxy's were announced in August well over 4 months to create that video and you said you didn't have time, I call bullshit
The Halloween update with the fairy costume hit on October 30th and because of work at Facepunch I only had time to start on the evening of October 10th. [editline]2nd December 2012[/editline]
It means YOU didn't want to have any more time, so don't complain about that.
Are you fucking kidding me. I was persuaded I was going to lose to whatever Zach & McVee would be putting out, so I was pretty apathetic about it.
Look at this from other side. Max didn't do anything wrong. Max just made a entry. Valve decided to make his entry winner. Why we still complain about Max? Let's complain about VALVE!
YEAH RIGHT WE SHOULD START COMPLAINING ABOUT VALVE wait, I thought we're complaining about Valve up until now
if valve hadn't had people working on Dota 2 then my preferred saxxy entry would have won, all weapons would have been balanced, and my girlfriend wouldn't have slept with my best friend on our anniversary. god valve's so inconsiderate.
Look at this from other side. Max didn't do anything wrong. Max just made a entry. Valve decided to make his entry winner. Why we still complain about Max? Let's complain about VALVE!
NO we can't complain about our overlord so lets complain at max instead That was sarcasm
Glad I couldn't enter this year.
Had I known the replay section would've been that much of a joke I would've submitted something. If only you could've submitted old content.
I really did wish so as well. The only problem with this Saxxy was the replay winner. Monster kill should have won since it was the best in the batch.
Monster kill, was that the one on the Halloween map? That was awful... all the finalists were awful, the epic fail taunt crap was the best of a bad bunch.
Monster kill, was that the one on the Halloween map? I agree that "monster kill" wouldn't have been a good choice either, but please, stop trying to justify what is obviously the inferior replay.
