• The State of the TF2 community. Then and Now.

I've always abhorred the hideous youtube videos that clog up the TF2 community.
The good old days of TF2 was, I admit, before hats. Before this elitism. All we cared about was the new weapons, maps, and most importantly, having fun. My best days were playing on custom maps on DiG, admiring the art work of the game. Every time I see "You're on your way to: Hydro" I get nostalgia, which is sad because it means I've stopped noticing the little details. I want to re-experience admiring the art work, and fooling around. The only way that will happen now is TF3.
yeah people are giving too many shits about hats I just play TF2 for fun
I can't help but think this would be an amazing idea: Remove every update from TF2, everyones hats, everyones items, and go through the updates again. It would give us a chance to experience vanilla, and the whole life of TF2.
This thread is above average. Just.
Another thing that I have to complain about/have a question about. SPUF. SPUF is nothing but whining 12 year-olds complaining about how one weapon is overpowered or one weapon was nerfed too much, and you know what Valve does? Ignore the larger community (Us) and go with what SPUF wants. Why the fuck do they listen to SPUF, who the hell put them in charge of what the community wants?

I've played TF2 since 2008, and I think the new updates are refreshing. It gives me something to think about when I'm having a very poor run.
I'm fine with the updates, but it is pretty annoying to see/hear all the trade requests n shit

We actually have quite the number of people making excellent points that those on the Steam forums couldn't hope to come up with due to their constant bitching over OP and nerfed weapons.
I decided a while back to stay with the stock weapons as my classes to remember the old days. I also remember how great they all were, and how most of them can kick any of the unlocks' asses any day.
I still remember when people were joking about TF2 being a war themed hat-collecting game. Well, now it`s no jokes.
:golfclap: Summed it up perfectly.
Hey, remember when TF2 fans used to deride Blizzard because of that aesthetic horse with a pricetag around twenty dollars? :smith:
WE SHOULD TAKE HATS AND MAKE THEM LESS RARE That`d work.
WE SHOULD TAKE HATS AND MAKE THEM LESS RARE That`d work.
I liked when they were extremely rare. Maybe because I already had one V:v:V
WE SHOULD TAKE HATS AND MAKE THEM LESS RARE That`d work.
WE SHOULD TAKE THE HATS AND MAKE THEM ONLY BUYABLE WITH NO TRADING It's just a cosmetic item. It's not like everyone has to have one.
WE SHOULD TAKE THE HATS AND MAKE THEM ONLY BUYABLE WITH NO TRADING It's just a cosmetic item. It's not like everyone has to have one.
Yes it is. But, you know, "its jus comsetic item guyz" never worked. People are still very obsessed with hats. And making them buyable only is bull.

And I remember reading in an interview that Valve keeps an eye on several TF2 communities, and I'd imagine that Facepunch is large and active enough to qualify.
As for the Mann Co Store let me put it this way. Deving costs money. Updates need deving. Updates that are free = loss of money for developer. Mann co store means that you can release free updates and still turn a profit. Without the Mann Co TF3 would be rapidly undergoing development and TF2 would be stagnating as we speak.

The only thing I hate about the more recent TF2 additions is keys. Far as I know, they're not randomly dropped, you HAVE to buy them. So you're playing around one day and suddenly, a crate falls from the sky into your lap, consequentially crushing your balls. Now you have this item taking up space in your inventory. You could: 1) Pay $2.49 for a key and unlock it only to get an Equalizer. Again. For the 3rd time that week. 2) Trade one of your 6 Equalizers for a key only to open the crate and get an Equalizer. 3) Let it rot in your backpack in the hopes that someday keys will be droppable. 4) Trade it to some shmuck for a hat only to have him report your for scamming because all he got was an Equalizer. Again. For the 3rd time that week. 5) Delete it.
meh, I don't mind it.

Is there anyone in the TF2 community that actually doesn't care about hats? I mean seriously, everyone here is either whining because they think hats are the focus of the game, or just obsessed with hats to the point that they believe that they are the focus of the game. Has everyone forgotten about the actual gameplay?

It doesn't aid you in any way by having one and gloating proves you are a basement dweller/ severe shut-in.

They're not essential to me, but they are a nice addition to the gameplay.
