Ok i want to start to make mods,but i don't want to pay to use maya/3dsmax,a friend told me that blender it's free,but is it good?

Blender is pretty decent, but the hotkeys are annoying. I recommend it, but talk to spark if you want maya/3ds.
Oh well,so which it's easy for noobs?(3DSMax,Maya or Blender?)
