TF2 Timeline, as understood by a dullard (me):
sd_doomsday->Everything else, including future updates->MvM and future MvM maps.

I wouldn't say alternate timeline, but it's the future of TF2 for sure

Besides, TF2 already exists in a sort of timeline/state where events sort of "run together" and congeal into one no-descript period. It's why we've got things like the Frontier Justice showing up in Meet The Medic.
TF2 has a comprehend-able past and future, but no real solid "present".

[sp]I seriously wish that wasn't the case. I seriously want this shit to be canon.[/sp]

TF2's storyline in general is loose as fuck
the story and the gameplay are very different things
Yeah, thanks.
I mean, we had the WAR! update before the senate hearing was even formed. If I wanted to, I could probably fit all the events of the pvp updates in like, a single week. Maybe even a day or two. Maybe the engineer found the pomson on the same night the soldier found the mangler, as the scout got his braces or something.
I think the only actual "present" date we're ever given is during the season of an imaginary holiday
Not that I think anybody actually cares about the dates.
Anyway, MvM is a flashforward, plain and simple.
The time frames'll never overlap, it'll never raise an issue.
But, but.
I like a good story :c

It's sort of like The Simpsons or other shows of that variety. Time passes and events occur, but for the most part things remain the same.

It's still a good story!
You're just bringing some sort of assumption to the table. What it is, I'm not entirely sure.
Did you ever watch LOST? Remember the season when they flashed forward in time, and how by (i think) the next season, all that stuff had already happened and was canon?
It's like that. Gray Mann is as part of the story as the Director's corpse rotting in some mine.
Maybe you can just mentally add a "previously, on tf2" to every future comic?
(e because you guys post so goddamn fast, sheesh)
This is LOST in 3 min:

TF2 does have a rather 'good' story all things considered. (although lore would be a better term most likely). Mostly because it doesn't take itself too seriously and never really intrudes into the actual gameplay, save for when it's explaining new weapon drops or introducing a new gameplay aspect/event.

Haha, jesus, Lost.
Seems like only a month or so after it ended, it just completely disappeared from pop culture.
I like to think that we all decided after seeing that last episode to pretend it never happened.
Guys, I had a brilliant idea...
The mineshafts, the Quicklime, the "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN?" poster...
[sp]What if you can find the Director's remains in Coal Town?[/sp]
[sp]And what if THIS hidden easter egg teases yet ANOTHER update?[/sp]
[sp]SAXXY AWARDS 2012.[/sp]
I wonder how does backpack work with this upgrade UI.
Will we be able to change weapons in mid-fight? And if we do, are we going to lose our upgrades for the other slot weapon that we used before?
Are we going to see visual indicators that we are upgraded?
Those are the questions that bother me...

2012 HALLOWEEN BOSS CONFIRMED
Yeah, because it's not like the game has been getting background story information added to it for around for five years or anything. Maybe some time has passed and the game no longer takes place in 1968. Maybe it is 1972.

On topic though. I can't wait to get a fully upgraded black box of mass destruction.

Or beggars.
I don't mean to kill the mood, but how do we know they won't restrict our arsenal? I mean it's obvious you can use non-vanilla weapons, but I just have this strange feeling that not all weapons will be useable. I hope they will all be useable, though!
I just went to SPUF...never again
Also, I love how Valve has been stringing us along for so long. Even now they drop hints about the Saxxies as if they haven't done enough this year. It's like each update is a piece of the bigger picture. First was MtP, now MvM, and I can't imagine they will waste all this opportunity and not think of something creative and related to past updates for the Saxxies and the Halloween event.
I just realized that in "War of the Worlds" The Date August 12th was the first sighting of things going to hell,
At midnight, on the 12th of August, a huge mass of luminous gas erupted from Mars and sped towards Earth. Across two hundred million miles of void, invisibly hurtling towards us, came the first of the missiles that were to bring so much calamity to Earth. As I watched, there was another jet of gas. It was another missile, starting on its way.
What did we get on August 12th? Blood Brothers
What's been hurtling towards us to cause great calamity? [sp]Gray's Tanks[/sp]
Oh man I can't wait, this is going to be so exciting.
"The robots run on piles of money" My first thoughts were: "What, they run on Steam credits? HOLY SHIT, THEY RUN ON STEAM!"

So disappointing that the consistency of uploads ends so abruptly, but you can listen to most of these on this persons channel.

A little while after MvM was released I thought of WOTW and wanted check the dates, but never got around to it because I'm lazy. The concepts do have a bit of strong similarity, which is great.
If I ever learn to properly use SFM I want to make some proper videos using some of the diolauge, perhaps having the Medic as the narrator and the scout as the surviving artillery man.
