I thought this is what the News section was made for, so competitive stuff doesn't go on the Blog tab anymore.
That's what it is for. But it gets far far less traffic than the main page, and the TF team felt that this event was worth telling the rest of the community about. Not just because of it being a competitive LAN, but because the collective community managed to fund the expenses required for the teams to travel to Europe for this.
I don't really get why valve blogged this, especially when the guys at eXTV turned around and said a while back that if the funds don't reach the total they'll keep it and send some single elitist div 1 guy over, it sounds dickish and why the fuck do they need $20k to send a total of 10 guys off in a plane. No way is it that expensive.

I think it's already confirmed that all the American teams are going. This is the biggest TF2 LAN in history, of course it's deserving of a blog post.

They'd be better off going to the gathering or something else which is much larger. I still don't see how all of that totals $20k though, surely some of them are going to be paying for their own stuff like food.
oh jesus i've been going to mge mod lately and i've seen some of those people, the top competitors of all time tf2 whatever and i didn't even know it. I knew they were really good but I didn't know they were famous too... ;_; (i've seen shade, PYYYOUR, and enigma)
heh competitive tf2

Still don't get why pub players get into defense mode when it comes to Competitive. If you don't like it don't comment, but there are pub players who love watching it, wanna learn, want to know what's out there for TF2. I personally applaude the TF2 Team for finnaly posting this on the blog and for one element on the TF2 Team to personally donate a lot of his cash for this cause ! It is, by far the biggest TF2 Lan in history. You truly have some deep issues if you bullshit that much
Comp is an important facet in the TF2 community. Plus they don't really effect pub games anyway, so there's just no point in wasting energy hating them.
I thought this is what the News section was made for, so competitive stuff doesn't go on the Blog tab anymore.
Well, this IS the biggest competitive event, like ever. Community poured over 20 000 bucks into this. It's like TF2 olympics. So I guess they deserve an official, proper announcement on TF2 blog.
Playing competitive TF2 is alright, although i'm likely to only play when there are medals are prizes as it gives a little bit more of an incentive and makes it seem more worthwhile. I don't think i'd enjoy spectating it though.
I know quite a few comp players who are also facepunchers? Personally I'm getting into comp.
Getting into it? You've already played a season with my team!
Mix^ and LG don't stand a chance versus Epsilon. Going to be an awesome event anyway.
I think this guy is in my team as well. I should really find out who is actually in my Highlander team.
