Yes.
Give us an idea, oh mighty dancing cat, because we've pretty much run all other ideas into the ground.
I don't really understand how you came to that conclusion of it taking so long? The system can have a preference on people who use the new system instead of the old list, by checking current bids (and selling to them if a match happens) before displaying that as a selling offer. In addition, those who offer a higher bid have a higher chance of being sold to (Valve can decide if the extra money paid either returns to the seller, or if the buyer receives it). If you want a key quicker, you simply bid >= someone else's, else you play the waiting game for a bit. The market isn't that slow.
Actually, the more people using this proposed system the better. People buying from the current list instead of using the bidding system will probably need to pay a bit more, as the bidders on the "new system" would probably already have an offer that's higher than what the list bots would be configured to grab at. This would give an even less incentive to bot the offers.
The bid amounts and prices could actually be public, but in a smoothed line graph format. Easy way to see what a good bid would be, and let people adjust their bidding according to the market trends. Letting the community decide what a good offer is, and compete with the prices. (FYI I don't see anyone rigging this either, unless they're rich as fuck, since they would be wasting -a lot- of money to do so. A selling ceiling would also prevent that if it ever became a problem.)
I honestly see no problems with a system like this, other than what I said above about potentially more marketer hesitation. Dunno why TentuZero boxes me and doesn't give any feedback about my proposed system; idc what people rate, but I prefer when people actually challenge my ideas on stuff instead of being ignorant... also sorry if this is too serious of a discussion for chat thread.
Well it isn't a too serious a discussion it's just that we really don't care. Frankly this is pretty much valve's way to squeeze more money out of a dying horse because you gain steam cash that is spent on steam, while taking away a cut of your profit. So in essence its a win win for valve. Now, speaking on your idea it seems that people will want to pay higher for an item that they want that badly if i am correct? Problem is, the tf2 community as a whole is greedy, REALLY greedy and the idea that they have to pay more to get the item would seem ludicrous to them. Letting the community make the prices is a horrible idea. People will stop at nothing to get top dollar for shit. A good example for this is uncraftable hats, before the update they were worth no more than some scrap, now a days people want top metal due in part that "hurr durr its not obtainable anymore.". Regardless a system run by the community will just be a giant clusterfuck of the richer making the score to better profit for themselves only. Now, on to your system, while it may seem that setting a bid and leaving it may seem nice for some. If a lot of people raise the price to that item and sell the item at that price, then that will be the bare minimum price for said item.
Also, if you don't care about ratings, why call me out and call me ignorant? That just seems pretty childish really. :v:

Spoy.
Don't you love it when people accidentally sell Botkillers to the Warehouse and you can buy an item normally priced at around 2 ref for a little over a scrap?
Now, speaking on your idea it seems that people will want to pay higher for an item that they want that badly if i am correct?
It's more along the lines of a way to turn Valve's new money milking system into a more automated design to save its users both time and money. Yes, paying higher for an item you want badly can be done in the system, but is that not true with the current buying list? Right now you can buy something for $200 if you really wanted it and no one was selling for less. Nothing really would change in that aspect, other than that no one would need to F5 constantly in hopes they get cheaper sellers.
Problem is, the tf2 community as a whole is greedy, REALLY greedy and the idea that they have to pay more to get the item would seem ludicrous to them. It actually hurts "the rich" people more, since "the poor" can just put in an offer and wait a bit. Unless the poor people significantly undercut the average("normal") price of people buying a particular item, the poor shouldn't be negatively effected. Also, the only items that don't really have a constant stream would be the that only the rich would have any sort of advantage over, such as unusuals (e.g., key prices aren't going to go higher than $2 since people would just buy them from the Mann Co store instead).
If a lot of people raise the price to that item and sell the item at that price, then that will be the bare minimum price for said item.
Huh? What would making you think this? It's still a "free" market, just as it is now. Right now, people can shift up their prices as much as they want; the same would be true in this system. I doubt any new fluctuation in items' value would happen... why would it? Sellers will be constantly undercut on a new system, just like how they are on the current buy list. Just like micro-auctioning, only in reverse.
One of the only reasons why traders are able to be super greedy is because they know people will bother to pay their prices. The TF2 trading community is both greedy and stingy at same time, so a more-automated trading system like this would let people more easily discover the perfect middle ground where it's a fair price for both the buyer and seller.

I said in the post that I like when people actually put thought into replying to something that probably took more than 5 seconds to write, instead of clicking a stupid button as a "reply" to it. So thanks very much for giving a real reply, I truly appreciate it despite disagreeing with your opinion.
All my Source games have slowly regressed from small hitches to complete non-functionality.
I think I'm about to get an update.
