For paintability i have 3 suggstions.
1. The alien itself(With a very light paint setting. Like the summer fast learner.
2. The Little light at the end of the mecha part
3. The mecha part itself.
Almost done with this set. I made a shield for the hell of it and that I had the idea in my head. All that is left is just finishing the shield, making sure all of the textures are final, add details to the Stickey Launcher, fuck around with the hat some more, and make promos. :B

The mecha part looks bad when painted, I tried it :v:. The lights don't quite work with paint because they have self illum and it would require another material. And ComfyCushion didn't like the idea of the alien being painted itself.
Thoughts on the texture? (the gray/whitish areas will be team colored via vmt)

If polycounts permit, it'd be nice if you broke up the roundness of that wreath around the edges made it look less like a torus/doughnut and add some irregularity. I like how you did the bow and the bell, though - do you plan to jigglebone the bell?

can you show how the mecha looked painted?
What if the aliens mouth stays shut but the light blinks with the voice lines?
Would making a material for th epainted self ilium be a ton of work?
Cause ive seen a few items here with painted selfilium that looked nice. maybe ask one for help?

Wow, the damned thing has more tris than I thought (824 per). I can try to take the existing verts and move them around a little though to get some irregularities. Dont plan to jiggle the bell since its such a small object.

Well, I can't really say for sure because I can't see the wireframe, but here are some calculated guesses that could bring the polycount down. This is assuming you've not already done tweaking the mesh.
1. Remove the extra edgeloops giving the roundness on the back end of the wreath - since it'll be facing the soldiers shirt, I doubt those will be needed, so retain only those that are barely visible from the top.
2. I think you have three edgeloops around the top of the bell, you could bring it down to two and adjust it so it doesn't look too blocky.
It'd be nice if I could see the wireframe so I can do this more accurately, but I hope it helps. :smile:

It's funny you should mention this, VernoGuy - I just showed what I had made so far to a friend and he said the exact same thing. I'll try modelling one once I get the flexes for the moustache in the bag and wrap up on the weapons, but it's an excellent idea. :)

The problem with the self illum in this case is that is not just the lights, there's a few subtle gradients in the self illum texture that cover part of the metal, so I can't really assign a new material (I think).
I'll take a few screenshots with the paint applied to the metal part today.
Not even sure if the blinking of the lights on voice commands would be possible. Probably would need to be hard-coded in the game

Two separate .png's with the different versions of the full texture, a .psd with the neutral parts, the red parts and the blue parts in their own layers, or something completely different?

I realise you say you did it just for the hell of it, and I think it actually looks really cool, but you do realise that'd be a bit of an odd set because you couldn't possibly equip all set pieces at once yeah?

If you have only one team coloured tone then use white and paint it with one texture map. If you have two tones, like team colour and cream spirit then use two texture maps.
If your item is paintable and has permanent team coloured parts, use two maps.
Honestly it doesn't matter that much - and .tga is generally a more useful filetype
