I know i had something similar happen to me where I had to do it each time, and when I did, it would work to that one, but then it would give me an error about how I didn't have the right directories for LODs, so I would have to decompile--find the directory, make it. Let it crash, then do it again, get the directory of the next LOD, let it decomp, crash, and repeat until I had all LODs.

The only thing i could think is maybe create a blank file by that exact name and just put it in the directory (make sure it's .dmx.smd and not .dmx.smd.txt) and see if it sees that and doesn't try overwriting.

I've been playing around with a few ideas. Decided to entertain one and make a quick model, then did a quick paintover in Photoshop to see how it'd look textured. I managed to make a playermodel from scratch using the decompiled .qc and the offical .smd for the engie But then I got stuck on the part where THERE WASN'T EVEN A WEAPON BONE IDENTIFIED IN THE .QC But other than that, I was doing pretty well. :3

That's why they call it "Made for fun" On an somewhat related note, I remember someone tried to make promos for Sonic Generations, but Sega refused, since TF2 was an M rated game

The set itself is going to be a Byzantine army costume and weapons. This is because I decided that the Pyro needs a Greek Fire siphon, which I haven't really decided on a design for.
