Annnnnnnnnd... now it's crap.
I hope you saved a copy of the original.
Also, Aspect. Doesn't have a filter on it. QED.

Generic horror axe, or something
my point is more this:
one is a blank mannequin, it's mysterious, it's creepy, it's animate but be can make no facial connection whatsoever, it's creepy from just a glance and there's nothing more to it, which is what bothers us
now if it had pyro parts, rather than go through that thought process, you're forced to imagine someone carving out a mannequin head specifically shaped like the pyro, and it has more personal recognition, even if it's just a filter, we know whose filter that is, it's familiar
[editline]25th September 2012[/editline]
anyway, I'm dumb and can't make ears, but I added a subtle nose and brow

Considered using Waterlogged Lab Coat as it's team colour?
don't worry, I work in layers. What's crap about it? I think if I could do it right it might be an improvement, navigating the uncanny valley is delicate.
he looks like he has a monobrow
Personally I like it how it is because I've seen a lot of films, video games, and TV shows that do the faceless thing and it's always superuber creepy and I love it. Hellraiser Inferno, Silent Hill 2, Watchmen, Jacob's Ladder, that one episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark with the little girl who turns out to be an alien, the Chozo games Yahtzee made, Slenderman even... it's just creepy... and to me for a Halloween inspired item seems perfect for the Pyro. Humanoid, but not quite humanoid, uncanny valley area where is it male? Female? Alive? What the hell is it? It doesn't need a filter, even one carved on or attached later, because that would detract from it's creepiness.
Is it plain and simple? Yes.
Does that make it bad? Absolutely not, it's simplicity adds to it's creep factor.
I don't think it's simple in an uninteresting way or anything, I think it looks simple in a "this looks like the kind of thing someone who just learned to model and managed to piece together an oval sphere with a stick and called it a head" kind of way. I'm not saying it is, but it resembles it.

The blood should follow how the other items with blood have blood on them by making the blood on the specular map be completely black.

but that's what I feel like all the time anyway
my anatomy was shitty that first time, smoothed out the brow and fixed the nose not going up to it. You'd think as a human I'd remember how we look. Is this a good middle ground?

is nose looks too big
it's actually really really small, just looks big because it's a little wide and has a hard edge

I'll probably eliminate that edge though
is nose looks too big
No, his eyes are too small.
Vote for it and stuff :)

I think you should just make it a faceless mannequin.
As in, without any facial definition at all.
Most mannequins that don't have a face are head-only mannequins, because they are meant for hats. Eh? Eh?

I did a quick paint over earlier of how you might make a slightly more stylised face for this. Just an idea, but it might help. :)
What you had before was perfect, that's what. Don't give it eyebrows. Or ears. If you feel compelled to do it, use soft shapes that give the impression something is supposed to be there, but is mishappen almost as if the head was supposed to be a mask. Especially on the nose.

That thing is almost as creepy as the bloody version of the Scout skull thing someone did.

I personally just don't think it's a good idea in general.
Pyro has a very distinct look and his various miscs are made to compliment that, by taking away the main filter and eye stocks you make it look completely fucked with a bunch of items.
What's already in game cancels out your argument, Quinn.

Never use existing faults to justify your own.
can someone make this as a pyro mask?

Cool mask, but i dont see it fitting in with tf2, no matter how well you model it.

I'll try to make it compatible with as much stuff as possible but it's not getting a filter or eye stocks
ideally it would be Halloween only anyway

your probably right.

Those are interesting designs. Interesting designs that unfortunately simply do not fit in TF2's aesthetic at all.
