Outside of replacing the existing animation, no. And that animation exists to denote when a backstab can be made, it's an important part of gameplay that won't get removed if it were to be added to the game.

So there'd be no way to keep a knife's upside down orientation even when raised up?
The knife I'm thinking of needs to face the spy during normal gameplay but if it flips when he raises it he'll be stabbing with the handle.

Did you change it to be a hat instead as it would clip(on purpose) with pretty much every hat?

Completed the FuManChu moustache jiggle bone work, trey (who's awesome) has been kind enough to help me get its flexes ready when time permits. As it stands, it looks amazing with jigglebones, but sadly fraps doesn't seem to like recording jigglebones very much.

Here's the concept I made despite the technical limitations of animation.
Fuck animation limitations, fuck gameplay restrictions and the fact that this item's only hope to work is if it converts killed players into buildables and would be so glitchy and broken that even the new TF team wouldn't consider shipping it. I do what I want.

When I first saw your comic though, I thought the concept was a knife that lets you mimic the shooting of the class and weapon they are holding when you backstab them.
speaking of odd-mechanic spy knives.. i always meant to model an old ink pen with a button on the rear. alt fire would store location temporarily so you could *ninja-smoke-teleport* back to wherever you set
