I would love for it to have a unique taunt. Just the fact that the current animation is clearly not intended for it really irks me.
I can suspensions of disbelief when you can shoot a rocket at your feet and fly into the air, use compressed propane gas in order to extinguish flames and redirect rocket-propelled grenades, teleportation and healing technologies, but the animations for all of those unbelievable things are at least believable for what they are intended to be for.
It's pretty easy to completely explain the entire taunt. He tries to trick the enemy into thinking he surrenders, then pulls a fast one on them. It's not really that hard to imagine, especially with that huge grin he makes during the taunt.
If anything I'd imagine the current Caber taunt would be more suited for something like The Freedom Staff. Can't imagine it ever being assigned to that weapon, but the taunt certainly has the possibility to work well with some kind of blunt, ornamental cudgel. More so than a grenade, at least.

Personally, my beef comes from the fact that the whole caber taunt as it is now looks so awkward and such.

No one is going to believe that it's a feigned surrender, though. The reason: He's holding a live potatomasher grenade. There's no justification for that sort of explanation due to the volatile and dangerous nature of the weapon he holds in his hands.
If he were feigning surrender by offering someone a drink, that makes sense. To offer someone a grenade does not make sense in the context of surrender, feigned or otherwise.
I'm going to blast ya into thin gruel!
Yep, he definitely sounds like he's surrendering. :v
the taunt itself was also added to the Caber because it was very popular.

You do know that a lot of the people who were praising it didn't think to the level that we are regularly nitpicking at, right? They just saw the Demoman using that animation, thought it looked really cool, went "it's like the Equalizer taunt", and praised it on SPUF (since this was pre-workshop).
Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's the best solution.

I'd say it's Valve fault, in that case. Had they actually made it into a taunt kill, I would actually accept it, but as you know, Valve hates logical solutions. :v:
This is the weirdest 69th page I've ever seen. We're sittin' here, arguing about animations when we should be arguing about if this is a good shade of green or if someone should put team colors on it or if someone ate someone else's pudding pocket.
I'm looking at you, sparky.

Never expected YOU to say that. With the whole Braniac Hairpiece situation...

If they make it a tauntkill, I'd at least want the animation to be a little more fitting. Him hitting himself or the floor with the grenade head or something that isn't so easy to see that it wasn't intended to originally be for a grenade. The "offering" of the grenade would still be there and still make no sense even if they added a tauntkill to it.

that was actually a popular fix, and still continues to be. It's reversal was a kneejerk reaction to a vocal minority.

Come to think of it, I think that's actually a REALLY easy fix. Just change his left hand to point with his index finger at the Ullapool Caber instead of having his full hand out.

It'd still require to be reanimated, if my understanding of the taunt animations is not mistaken.

Yes, it would. But it can't really be that big of a chore, especially with Source Filmmaker (at least I assume exporting animations is easy from there).

You would have to decompile the animations correctly and recompile the soldier just to add one edit to a taunt.
Fuck this is a terrible pageking.

I thought everyone on SPUF wanted it to be a misc again.

Haha, decompiling animations. That's not going to happen anytime soon. No community tools can do so and Valve has shown no interest in helping with that.
Absolute easiest (see: "Only") way to add animations is following this.

I got the reload animations for the camera gun working, but there's some pretty major clipping. I might just make it so that none of the gun parts move during the animation.

the daicompiler can, but daimao has shown no intention of releasing it.

I forgot that thing existed. He promised a release last October and since then I forgot it existed.

now suddenly they've shifted back and it seems everyone wants it to be a hat again.

Stay classy, SPUF.
Stay classy.
it's a good thing the Headtaker's sounds are ridiculously awesome. I wasn't about to let that change go down quite as easily as the Hairpiece, had things gone south on that one.
Do hats and miscs have passive and dominant layers?
Like say the last breath has a passive and the nappers has a dominant.
If there is a spot where the breath would go through the nappers, the nappers dominant layer would override the breaths passive layer and not show it.
Does that exist in tf2?
Venezuelan: make the main body and gas tank (or whatever it is) wider.

no, but that would be epic
