Overused does not equal good-looking, nor does it equal bad-looking. Overused usually equals 'either really easy to obtain or really expensive', and there are both ugly and pretty items in both categories. If you claim that items become expensive because they look good, I will visit you at night and lick your neck, spitefully.
Overused combinations do in my experience [I]usually[/I] consist of three of the same old handful of expensive items haphazardly combined and painted with the same few expensive paints with little to no regard for whether or not they actually look good together. Even good-looking items look bad when painted or combined in bad ways. Therefore, overused combinations very often also look bad or just kind of meh.
Finally, the art of combining hats is a form of creative expression. Cliché loadouts, even when they look good, are boring and signal nothing about the wearer except their amount of TF2 wealth. Therefore, yes: looking 'unique' has an intrinsic value in this context.
Looking unique by covering oneself with mismatched crap is indeed bad. Looking unique by combining good-looking items in tasteful ways without minding how much the items cost is good.

I like them, especially your Scout, although I'm not to fond of the hat. If I still had my Kicking Boots, I'd sure as hell get that painted Track Terrorizer. If you want suggestions for the classes that you don't like, I'd say Stovepipe/Bicorne for the Demo, Ushanka/Hound Dog for the Heavy, Tin-Man for the Engie, Default/Trophy Belt for the Sniper, Unpainted Brigade Helm for Pyro (and maybe drop the Hazmat, but that's just me), and for the Medic, I'd say a Overalls/Labcoat Gatsby/Tyrolean and maybe drop the Quad.
Try them in itemtest, see if anything tickles your fancy.
So my new Engy loadout is nearly done, I only need one final [I]minor[/I] paint detail. I can't decide on which so voting time!

Where the creator wants this as a hat, It wouldn't work [sp]yellow belt[/sp] as a misc, you could wear this with the Yellow Belt/Your Worst Nightmare, and the Veil. [sp]with matching paints[/sp]
Would create a nice face-mask thing for sniper, I think it'd look really cool.
