It's not the loading, it's the rendering of them once they're loaded. Chrome doesn't like rendering 24 large images at once, and I have a quad core i5 and 8 gigs of RAM. :v:
Dunno about processors much but I have a AMD Phenom II X4 820 which I think is worse, 4 gigs of RAM, I'm using chrome like you and they load instantly.
