I don't hate the Pyro. After several stat resets, Pyro is my most played class once again. I'm getting along with playing Pyro pretty good. I love the Pyro. I just don't love those players who can't put any effort into playing Pyro and go puff'n'sting because it's the easiest way to get kills with the Pyro.
I myself have 944 kills with my Strange Axtinguisher. None of my Axtinguisher kills were done in a combinated usage with the Degreaser.

Minigun can achieve a lot of damage from any range and the flaregun requires quite a bit of skill if you're claiming it can hit a fleeing scout.

Puff'n sting might be an easy way of getting kills, but its situational and can only kill you if that situation is met, and doesn't really do anything else. Puff'n sting isn't some magical trump card that can defeat any class, if your team is having pyro puff'n sting problems go counter pyro, fight fire with fire because the puff'n sting doesn't work on other pyros. This has been said too many times but, the combo is [b]ONLY[/b] overpowered when used together, the only way to fix it is to separate them or make them incompatable without rendering them useless together, I know a lot of pyros who would be very sad if their primary form of attack was demolished.

I have managed to facestab a Heavy standing still with his back against a corner in a server with a good ping. The hit detection in this game is just horrible so it doesn't matter how fast or slow you're moving if you can backstab enemies who are right [b]behind you, looking right at your back![/b]

Also this, I get pissed when I see how people complain about getting their backs burned, even though flanking as a Pyro is really difficult.
I once backburned a Sniper. He called me a noob for using Backburner. He said if I were using the normal FT he wouldn't complain. This guy also plays Degreaser+Axtinguisher Pyro.
Puff'n'Sting is a loadout for people who never played Pyro before the Degreaser got in, because they failed at it.

Pyro requires minimal skill to be a competent threat in tf2, but only unique load-outs trump default and puff'n sting, I keep having to repeat myself but my favorite load-out is Phlogistinator, The Detonator, and the Homewrecker. I'm trying to defend two weapons that are perfectly fine ALONE, but everyone else here is trying to make them both worse, I'm sorry if by your standards I have a "no-skill" load out and whoopsie on me for thinking it was hard to successfully hit a scout with a flare twice.
i personally do better when using anything but the puff and sting loadout. mostly because i tend to find groups of enemies. and a puff and sting pyro can handle 2 enemies max if they ain't retarded.
especially on certain payload maps i can flank an entire enemy attack force with the backburner, ambush them from behind, kill them, whip out the homewrecker and whack a friendly building or two which a spy sapped earlier. with puff and sting, i can kill one and get the attention of some others while i run for it towards another sentry.

I have no problem with either. It's just that both together are easymode.

Exactly, but making one or both of them worse isn't the way to fix them, someone at valve needs to make an anti-set, where you get a specific debuff for using those two together.
Set debuff: -75% airblast strength -25% critical damage
Or something like that, not getting rid of the strengths, just weakening.
every time a puff and sting pyro comes at me as soldier i just wait til he airblasts me, then fire a rocket at his feet. sending him in the air, then i fire another rocket which often kills him. the airblast and rocket has the excact same fire speed. so if he blasts before or afte you shoot, all you need to do is hold down the fire button and 2 rockets will usually be enough

That's why I said to give the Axtinguisher a stat that keeps it unaffected from the Degreaser switch speed. It might affect the Degreaser's strength of swichting weapons faster, but it'd only affect the Axtinguisher. You could still pull out your Shotgun/Flaregun incredibly fast, which is agood I think.
I am spoiled by the Degreaser's fast weapon switch, I have to admit. It's just pretty damn handy to blow some shotgun shells into a Soldier, tricking him into shooting a rocket at you and then quickly switching to primary just to backblast. That's why I love the Degreaser.
And the reason I disagreed with the Degreaser stats someone suggested some pages back which turned all crits into minicrits is the reason that this stat would make the Pyro a worse choice for Critcharges. Unless the Pyro has a godly flaregun aim or has the Shotgun with him, I'd consider Kritzing a Pyro a bad coice.

Still, the puff'n sting is a small problem and it needs to be [b]fixed[/b], I just hope that when they fix it, it won't be like the phlog fix where they just slapped -10% damage and reduced crits, it deserves regular flamethrower damage.

Seriously now, I'm a Pyro main-player. I know what I'm talking about when I say Degreaser+Axtinguisher is a powerful "easymode" combo.
I still remember when the Pyro update hit, I farmed achievements with friends. I was one of the better players with the Airblast. Some friends of mine have failed Airblasts completely, while I handled them pretty well.
I think that airblasts arethe Pyros most powerful weapon.
And thinking about it, I know a way Valve coul nerf the Degreaser.
It could get the old Airblast stats; slower blast speed, more ammo cost, no mini-crit. But that'd be a nerf that'd hurt me personally.

Considering the "Hit With Shield At Any Range = Full Crit For Melee" change happened when the Splendid Screen was added to the game, and still exists to this day, I'm pretty sure that yes, it is meant to give you a guaranteed critical at any range so long as you hit the target with your shield first.
The times when Pyro required skill were the times before the airblast buffs. Not that I dislike the buffs but you had to be pretty fucking ninja to actually do decent with Pyro because of the difficulties of airblasting. Nowadays it's just 'pros' claiming to be good because they use cheap combos all over the place. Seriously, I've seen less W+M1 Pyros lately than the selfcalled 'pros'.

Want a tip? always check the loadout of the soldier you're healing, if he uses the equalizer, inform him that in order for you to heal him he must take that blasted thing off, if he refuses, avoid healing him.
