The downside to this particular weapon is the lack of a fourth rocket, which is a huge cripple when fighting groups of enemies due to the rocket reload times. The fourth rocket makes a helluva difference, you know.
not really, it's basically the DH without any of the skill required to use the DH. [editline]20th July 2012[/editline] (skill = aiming)
The downsides are that it only has 4 shots opposed to the shotgun's 6, that the projectiles move unbearably slowly and are easily seen, giving you plenty of time to avoid the unusually large hitbox.
2 less shots makes no difference to Engineer, especially not with the unlimited range/penetration The projectiles are hardly slow, they seem about the same speed as an uncharged sticky to me "Easily seen" is pretty subjective, I've heard many complaints that they're too hard to see or they look too similar to the Bison/CM5K projectiles Neither make up for the fact that it's plain bad design to have a projectile that deceiving. I don't know how you could disagree that it's unfair to ask Medics to dodge an invisible 5-10 foot radius at all times, especially when no other projectiles in the game are this bad (to my knowledge) You also totally overlooked that the hitboxes allows an Engineer to have terrible aim or mindlessly spam and still get hits. A massive ability like draining uber shouldn't be something you can get like that (or ideally it shouldn't be in the game at all) [editline]20th July 2012[/editline] Also the fact that the Pomson can be paired with the Wrangler nearly makes me vomit
I was playing some lovely games on Hightower today, being a lovely medic, till I got bored and played solly. The games were unusually easy, didn't understand why, didn't mind too much. Autobalance! No problem, teams look kinda fair, we got some people, lost some people. Then I found out why we were losing. We inherited the problem the other team had. FIVE BLOODY ROCKET JUMPING, MANTREADING, MARKET GARDENING, ALMOST NON-KILLING SOLDIERS. The games got much tougher from then on in.

CP_Orange maps are rather terrible, I've just noticed (never played on them for long) Chances are half of your team are Spy's and Snipers, never any medics when you want them and trying to cap the last point is damn near impossible when there's sentry's in their spawn that they constantly rebuild and stuff. I was the only one who ended up pushing to that last point as a heavy before my team noticed what they where supposed to do.

It's a crutch since it makes it easier for lower-skilled players to use while actually being a hindrance for higher-skilled players.
One internet celebrity does that and suddenly everyone thinks they can do it. Only on that map, too.
Market Gardener soldiers tend to be insufferable prats too, at least the ones I've encountered. Yes I am still on about this.
Shitmod servers. The ones that spam ads all over the place, and give people premium trials and force you to see who killed you and with what for 1 minute after you spawn. Or the ones that stop you from playing if you don't have html motds on.
you mean shared weapons annoy you? I'd kill for a widowmaker on heavy. I also want pocket pistol and winger for engi.
Widowmaker on Heavy....so, would it use his minigun ammo instead of metal? Shit i'd use that Also, Pocket Pistol+Southern Hospitality= Engie dies from his own body warmth.
Lack of bot support for the most part. Bots just sort've stand there in firefights when they should be weaving and jumping (if appropriate), and medics love to stand still in the midst of things. Also A.I. heavy/medic combos *shudder*
Steam Workshop as of the last few weeks and the lack of moderation.
One internet celebrity does that and suddenly everyone thinks they can do it. Only on that map, too.
I'm looking at you, Niichts...
I'm looking at you, Niichts...
star_ is actually a pretty cool dude his fans are insufferable though [editline]20th July 2012[/editline] "hur i barely know how to rocket jump i'm gonna to try to market gardener people!!!!!!!!!"
Are you me? I had this same problem last night.
whenever you go on any server that has hightower on you always get some insufferable asshole who sucks at rocket jumping who's trying to trolldier
When people can't even bother to spell/use proper capitalization and shit when they name/describe stuff. Come on. You really can't even bother then?
I always double spellcheck when I'm applying tags.
I must say thank you to star_ for one thing. plr_hightower is now my #1 place to go to practice my ability to airshot things :v:
I was pretty happy when the VALVe servers came out 'cause there was finally a place to go to play HT regularly, could never find HT before. When he made those videos suddenly there are loads of 24/7 Hightower servers when people finally realized it's awesome to dick around and funboats on.
I don't mind when people just dick about as Trolldier in pseudo-serious games. But when teams actually decide to get together and work towards winning the game, those extra players who are too busy jumping around and failing like hell really break your defence. I saw one soldier rocket jumping then pulling his reserve shooter out as if he thought he had to be in the air to get the crits.
60% of the soldier population on tf2: "oh my good i cant hit you with my rockets what should i do" >Aim >Spam shotgun. >Spam shotgun as far as posible.
not sure how you spam a shotgun they probably shoot the floor with rockets instead.

It annoys me and makes me sad and disappointed when people diss the Fan-o-War saying that it's a bad weapon, because every single willy time they do, they'll say it's because your scattergun can outdamage it anyways. And that is terrible logic and train of thought, because hey, if you somehow manage to land every single hit and do maximum damage all the time, of course every single item will be worse than the one with the most damage output. But it gets me tense when people admit to being terrible at Scout. But when you mention the Fanowar, suddenly it's a waste to them since they always get 100+ meatshots anyways. And they'll stick to that mindset and never actually try it until they can see where that weapon can be useful. And that makes me very sad.

I haven't seen the Fan-O-War used effectively in any situation, but probably because, like you said, people just instantly dismiss it.
