Stuff that annoys you in TF2: Constructor doesn't make this thread Edition

Refusing someone's trade just because you can afford to lose stuff isn't good reasoning.
I'd rather make my profit then give stuff away to friends instead.

Have you even seen bazkip's backpack?
It's not even funny. The "stuff you love" thread is filled with posts of him finding a new hat practically every week.

There's two in the past week and then I don't know when my last hat drop was, quite some time ago. I've also stopped posting about my raffle winnings, do you want me to stop posting about drops too? Am I not allowed to be happy about TF2 stuff and share that happiness? Because that's what the Stuff you Love thread is for.

I've seen it and commented negatively on it, it's still not like he's a valve employee who'll have his hats restored any time he trades one away.

One man's happiness is the other man's annoyance.
why do hats have to have a specific value? why are some hats worth more than others without being limited in any way? why is trading about making a profit instead of exchanging something you don't like for something you like? who decided that max heads and earbuds would be standard currency? and why the hell are any hats worth less than 3 refined when it takes 3 refined to craft a totally random one except with trading you have the convenience of not having to get extremely lucky?
Because no one will exchange a hat that's ugly as sin for the best looking hat in the universe. It's all about demand.
You know what annoys me? The fact that some of you flip out when lucky things happen to me. I don't ask for it, it just happens. I'm just happy and trying to share my happiness. That's what people do, we like to tell people about the cool and lucky things that happen to us. I realized the raffle things was bothering some of you, so I stopped. I've even covered up/edited some things (chatlogs, for instance) I posted here to hide the fact that I've won raffles. I'm trying, but you guys are still getting mad at me. Should I just stop posting altogether? I used to love posting here and in the stuff you love thread, but now all I get are hostilities. Why do some of you have to ruin it
[editline]Fuck you[/editline]
And of course you still throw boxes at me. Seriously Scarabix, what the fuck do you want me to do?
beauty is subjective. why should demand matter? its just cosmetics. why must there be some bullshit economy? why can't it just be 1:1 trades?
It's not going to happen when everyone wants a fast learner but no one wants a steel toe. The fact that some items are downright hard to sell justifies a lower price.
beauty is subjective. why should demand matter? its just cosmetics. why must there be some bullshit economy? why can't it just be 1:1 trades?
There was, for about 2 or 3 days after trading came out.
I've only ever found 3 hats, I was unfairly banned as soon as I used tf2r so I can't enter raffles, and I give stuff away all the time. Hell, I'm even letting my use my Unusual for as long as he likes, and at Christmas I bought a ton of hats and gave them to my friends, ending up with half of my inventory sold. If more people did this, we wouldn't have the greedy dicks in the trading communities that you see today.
About the hat thing, look at things like the Team Captain and Fast Learner. A lot of people like them and a lot of people want then, therefore their value goes up. Things like the Coupe and Dixie, not alot of people like them, and bam, their value goes down. Things like the Max Head and Buds are used as "currencey" because they look nice (For the most part) and were limited, making them rare and apparently more valuable. tldr; Everyone wants everything, so people make a profit off demand.

It would be ideal, but it doesn't work.
Rarity and looks play a large role, because if you have something that a lot of people want, you don't want to trade it for something a lot of people don't want.
[editline]9th August 2012[/editline]
If you trade for something a lot of people think is terrible, you will have a hard time finding someone else to trade it with if you get tired of having it. If an item you have is very common, people don't care as much about obtaining it since it's not special to own something if everyone else also owns it.
The only problem with the idea that all hats should be valued equally is that no one would craft hats anymore.
Say the default price for all hats falls around 3 ref.
Why would you spend 6 ref for a chance to craft a hat you want when you could just BUY said hat for half the price?
There'd be no overly-expensive hats, but there'd be no room for profit, only loss.
That said, shit IS crazy expensive.
Some content time, there's been this guy on a fuckaround server that I've gone on for a while now who, whenever he comes on, ALWAYS says "My Engie is the best one here :)" and he has a white Bill's, Earbuds, and the Teufort Toothkickers on. He says he is the best because his hats are the most expensive. Forget the fact that white Bill's is ugly as sin, and he's just filling up his slots with the most expensive shit he can find, he has an annoying as fuck sense of superiority. So one day after having enough of his "I'm the best because my shit is expensive", I told him off. This is when I realized he was probably 12 years old, because he started off on the usual "fag ur just jelos cuz ur hats r shit". So I challenged him to a real match on a serious server, Engie vs. Engie. I dueled him and, aside from his teammates helping him with assists, I think the final score was around him, 5 me, 20. I haven't seen him since and I sincerely hope he realized that hats don't help you win the game. Not that he probably ever played a real match before that.

I've said it before but I'll say it again, people who send everyone in the server random friend requests, then just drop a ton of stuff into their side of the trade and go "U NEED?". Is it really that hard to say "Anyone looking for a X?" in text chat?
And more of a pet peeve of mine - people who think it's a capital crime to leave a misc slot empty. Probably cause of a lot of the "Random earbuds/scarf syndrome" occurrences where those items appear in loadouts where they make no sense at all.
Something that I don't like is how assists counts to the points in duels.
For example; A medic gets a point to his dueling score for assisting in killing you.The medic should not get points to his dueling score just because he is healing that heavy who killed you. Points should only be awarded to the person, if he managed to kill you somehow and vice versa.

Especially annoying when you're fighting an intense battle, only just win, only to be beaned by a Scout or something and your opponent picks up the kill as well.
Doing a shitton of damage to an enemy, and then a pocket-pair go and get the assist points.
Vice-versa when I'm the medic healing someone. I rarely get points as medic, although I try to keep everyone on the front line overhealed. :(
When you beat an enemy so badly that they're JUST clinging to life, they JUST manage to kill you, then someone comes in and breathes agreesively on them, killing them.
You recieve no credit, not even an assist.
Or when you've got someone on the ropes, then a Sniper will finish the job with a potshot to the tibia or something, turning your well-earned kill into an assist.
Whenever that happens, all I can think is how appropriate this is: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/9/99/Demoman_specialcompleted-assistedkill02.wav

That reminds of this one time I got into an "argument" (insult battle) with someone on some forum where I used nothing but TF2 quotes to insult the other guy.
It went on for several weeks. I'm not entirely certain the guy ever caught on.

Any chance we could see?
this dumbo economy will be the death of TF2
Any chance we could see?
It happened so long ago I'm not certain if I'm going to be able to dig it up again, I'll try though.
this dumbo economy will be the death of TF2
but it's the whole reason why the game went f2p.
If I were in charge of the schema....
-all bud would be made untradable. and become linked to some sort of acheivement so everyone could have one.
-Bills hat and Max head would drop with the ones before the update being bumped to genuine.
- No salvaged crates. EVER.
- All promo items have zero date restrictions so the items can be obtained at any time. Genuine quality version have a set obtainibility date.
- Increase chance of uncrating unusual hat to 5%
trade economy slightly remedied

Trade economy completely crashed.
Except the Salvaged crates, that I agree with.

and suddenly tf2 becomes more fun and less OMG I'M BETTER THAN YOU BECAUSE I HAVE BETTER ITEMS.

I don't think completely crashed, aside from the buds as currency thing
Genuines would become dominate "currency."
Genuines would become dominate "currency."
And I do not have a problem with that.
