Because it would do damage to you.

Actually it looks like he was attempting to puff and sting...with a homewrecker?
Actually it looks like he was attempting to puff and sting...with a homewrecker?
Because it's funny when you actually manage to kill someone with it :v: (even more with random crits)
And if you use the maul, the kill icon looks cool.
[editline]27th September 2012[/editline]
It's so much more satisfying to kill with my maul than with an axtinguisher.
Nothing better than beating shit out of puff n sting pyros with the homewrecker.

Come on sentry. My frontier justice is full of crits, I can take them by myself.

Homewrecker kills feel good and it crits quite often, it's actually a better, less situational weapon than the neon sign.

I've actually done that once or twice because I was being a pybro, and that was the only way I could actually do some damage while I was in the water because I didn't have the Neon Annihilator equipped.

Puff and Stinging with Homewrecker is the most fun you can have as Pyro.
You know what I dislike?
There are 2 melee weapons Pyros use:
Axtinguisher and Homewrecker (reskins added for one's own taste)
Where's the love for the Volcano Fragment? Third Degree? Lollichop?

Volcano Fragment sets people on fire.
Might be useful without a flamethrower.
Third degree/lollichop are actually nice but axtinguisher is a straight upgrade doing 3 times their damage at all times.
Volcano Fragment pretty much turned into a Medieval mode weapon.
Third Degree fucking vanished.
Lolichop is probably them not wanting forced pyrovision just to use a new taunt.
Jesus, Third Degree is a straight upgrade.
I thought I'd see everyone and their grandchildren using them.
Jesus, Third Degree is a straight upgrade.

You don't actually find your self smacking medics/patients with your melee often as a pyro.
I love the lollichops taunt, but I don't want to have to be in Pyrovision to use it. Works nice on non-serious games and community gamemodes like Dodgeball, though.
They usually do this fresh off an overheal.
I can distinctly remember a situation on Coldfront. Mid point. I was defending alone because a Heavy wiped the rest out, and I saw a Degreasquisher Pyro coming up the road. Quite far away still, so I shoot him with a few rockets. One hits his feet, two hit him straight on, and he airblasts one that misses. By the time I'd switched to shotgun he'd already lit me on fire, puffed me against a wall and was priming his melee.
These things shouldn't happen. Pyros shouldn't be rewarded for doing things like this. They need to actually learn how to surprise the enemy, which was the class' original goddamn job.
Don't bother trying to convince anyone here that the pyro is unbalanced. They won't hear a word against him, nor will they acknowledge the fact that he has no counter within his role, unlike any other class in the entire game. (Range is not a class, nor is it an effective counter, because the pyro can either hide and stonewall an enemy with the threat of jumping out when they get close, or just spam his flaregun.)

Mostly nobody uses them because the attribute is EXTREMELY situational. Even most PYROS are smart enough not to run at a medic/whatever combo, because they know they'll get raped.

Counters? Engineers (oh please, you can't do anything to them without an uber, but then again, a sniper can murder an engy nest with an uber), Heavies (unless you get them from behind or by surprise, and then again it's not so easy), Scouts (just you try catching that bastard without luck, I dare you) and Snipers (come on, if a sniper let a Pyro get in close combat range, it's entirely his fault)
[editline]27th September 2012[/editline]
Also, Pyroland is awesome, what are you on.

Hey hello Demoman, how are your insta-arming 120~ damage stickies doing, eh?

The engineer is basically a counter to every class, so what's your point? He can't disrupt the pyro at his role.
The heavy is easy to destroy if you know your shit. Airblast spam him into a corner where he can't shoot you and axtinguish him when he follows you, or run in a circle around him spamming your flamethrower.
The scout is annoying as fuck, yes, but he isn't impossible to catch, and he has so little health that a good flare shot can screw him over. either way, he can't face up to the pyro in direct combat and disrupt his role.
Snipers are easy to sneak by as ANY class. They can only watch one spot at a time, so find a way around it and assrape him. He isn't even a counter to anything but the heavy, least of all the pyro.
Hey hello Demoman, how are your insta-arming 120~ damage stickies doing, eh?
Don't even tell me. I mostly play medic/engineer. I fucking hate sticky demos.
A...are you trolling? I don't want to believe you're that stupid.
Obviously, no matter what answer I give, you'll remain convinced that I am, because obviously having a different opinion on your favorite class means I am a lesser lifeform who is of lower intelligence than you are.
Actually my favorite class is Scout. The rest is true though.
Actually my favorite class is Scout. The rest is true though.
"I proved your point. TAKE THAT!"
If your favorite class is scout, why are you defending the pyro, who is arguably one of the most annoying motherfuckers in the game to a class with such low HP, regardless of whether he's OP or not?

Because everything you're saying is stupid.
Pyro is like soldier in the sense that he can easily kill anything, but anything can easily kill him.
If you loose to a pyro its because he got lucky as shit with some crit magic or because he bested you. Fucking deal with it and learn to counter their tactics. As annoying as puff and sting is, you CAN counter it. It just takes skill or the good sense to run the fuck away if things get bad.
Hey hello Demoman, how are your insta-arming 120~ damage stickies doing, eh?
In clips of eight, as well.
I thought that scout was technically the pyro's biggest counter. There's not much use in puff and stinging somebody that isn't even close enough. And if a scout does go close range on a pyro, they deserve whatever they get.
Because everything you're saying is stupid.
You insist what I'm saying is stupid, and yet you won't actually say why. Is this because you disagree, and are not mentally capable of distinguishing the difference between disagreeing with someone's opinion and them being genuinely stupid, resulting in you combining the terms into interchangeable usage?
Or maybe you have niggling little doubts in the back of your mind that perhaps your blind defense of the pyro is not actually that great an idea, and what I'm saying is making it harder to shake off.
As annoying as puff and sting is, you CAN counter it. It just takes skill or the good sense to run the fuck away if things get bad.
How do you counter puff n sting, then? You can't run away, because the pyro already airblasted you.
