[T]http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/c/cc/Heavytaunt1.PNG[/T] Uhhrg. Why do people love to play Heavy so much? It's the absolute simplest class, has a ridiculous effort/reward ratio and just...saps all enjoyment out of a match. I hate playing a nice, surprisingly even-teamed fun pub on Gorge, and then having some braindead ham sack rolls by with his pocket Medic and ruins it all. There's no thought required to play the class aside from the same "look out for spies, shoot gun" that every class uses, and Valve's been routinely making the class easier to play (119th update, Sandvich, GRU, Tomislav to a lesser extent) for no real reason. Sorry for posting something I'm sure has run through this thread already, I am just really not okay with how Heavy as a class has been handled.
I think, this is what you're saying.
Heavy is easy to play but hard to master
You kinda lost me here. I mean, I suppose anything is hard in relation to playing Heavy, but compared to other classes, "mastering" doesn't really have a whole lot of depth to it.
You kinda lost me here. I mean, I suppose anything is hard in relation to playing Heavy, but compared to other classes, "mastering" doesn't really have a whole lot of depth to it.
I think there's quite a lot of depth to it actually. Slower speed forces you to plan self-placement and routes well in advance, your big hulking bod makes you a huge target so you need to be aware of what's on all sides of you at all times (you can tell a good Heavy if you see one looking around all the time), and properly using that mass to meatshield is actually fairly challenging, requiring you to fight instinct and actually jump into the line of fire, but not too long. You also need to be aware of important sounds like decloaks, flamethrowers, sniper rifles... Listen for signs of the primary classes after your skin. Playing Heavy with loud music is outright suicidal because of this. There are a lot of variables that makes Heavy a pretty challenging class to play for most. Know your routes and angles, check your 3, 6 and 9 at all times, listen carefully, tank well, and if you have a pocket, keep tabs on him and pay attention to his health. If it's going down, you best turn around and fix that.

Get 2. I'm hungry.
What's sad is that about 5/6 of the codes redeemed were stolen from the packages by event handlers before the convention started. Oh, it's this bloody fable again. A guy finds something in the game that counters his beloved class and thinks it's OP and broken, but never actually bothers to try and see for himself. I find Heavy actually a tad UP, maybe just because I can't play as him well. There are so many ways to outsmart such a slow class, and even if you know what they're up to, you're so slow you can't do anything about it.

Fists of Steel, so underrated. It's like a sort of personal uber, and even experienced players have trouble understanding the -100% melee vulnerability. They forgot melees can be used to kill people.
If you look at what Heavy has to do to master and compare it to what other classes require, he's undeniably the easiest class to master in the game He's not really OP, but the fact that Heavy makes such an impact on a game and it takes far less skill to play Heavy than it does to counter him is a pretty big problem [editline]29th September 2012[/editline] Also saying this again, removing the +25% spinup buff he got a while ago would do a lot to fix this

Shit I can't even play suicidal Heavy without being completely jacked up. To be a truly dependent Heavy, not relying on Medics plugged up your arse, it takes tremendous effort.

There are basically 2 classes that need good twitch aiming: Scout and Heavy.
And sniper?
There are basically 2 classes that need good twitch aiming: Scout and Heavy.
Well, good track aiming is more important than good twitch aiming on both of those classes.
and soldier?
and soldier?
Pfft.
There are basically 2 classes that need good twitch aiming: Scout and Heavy.
Heavy doesn't twitch aim, you use tracking. I honestly don't know how that guy got so many dumbs when heavy boils down to an even simpler W+M1 than pyro. All that "But ya gosta look around!" So does every other class.
and soldier?
Direct Hit Soldier, sure. Otherwise, prediction is more important.

I would say that heavy is harder to play than pyro, if you are up against competent enemies.
