Gunslinger Engi is really fun. One of my favourite sub-classes.
Gunslinger Engi is the only way you really "play" Engineer. I don't see any fun and point in building a gun that does all your work for you.

You can set up Level 3 Sentries in hidden places, as if ambushing unsuspecting enemies. You can harass enemies with your shotgun and use yourself as bait to lure them to your sentry. Set up teleporters in uncommon places to lead your team to a surprise assault. Stuff like that. Playing regular Engineer can be fun too if you know how to do it.

But then, I sit there, hitting my Sentry with my wrench... get bored, run out to kill someone and die. Seconds later, Sentry is down. I'm far more effective with a Mini-Sentry and my Gunslinger. And as we are in the "stuff that annoys you" thread: The Gunslinger is bugged to hell and back. Do you know how often I did three consecutive hits with it but yet not getting a crit punch? The hit detection in TF2 is generally bullshit. Perfect example to prove that is the Boston Basher. Sometimes I hear the sound of the bat hitting someone, yet I'm the one bleeding. I also had it once that I completely missed, neither I was bleeding nor my opponent. But the worst thing was when both me AND my enemy were bleeding.
I hate people who are better than me.
That explains why you act like a dick to everyone quite well. Anyway, Engineer is a slower and weaker Scout that can build teleports, dispensers and sentries. Seeing that Sentries shut down close-range classes (well, pretty much Scouts, Pyros, and "what the fuck is that enemy engi doing here" stuff), but have a hard time against heavy classes (specially with medic). They hold the line but are not gamebreaking. And Engi is boring if you set up at intel and wait. Engi is not boring if you grab your shotgun and go and set up at THEIR intel. Of course if you play turtle is boring. At least until a spy/demo/soldier/heavy ruins your fun.
If a sentry is around a corner close range coasses are more effective honestly. Especially pyro, flaming the sentry in it's blind spot.
I hate when you're just goofing around having fun and somebody comes in taking things way too seriously and tries to make you stop. Yes, Mr. Soldier, with your pocket Kritz medic, you are doing quite well, thanks for pointing it out to me. No, me and my "idiot medic" friend don't have as many points as you, smacking enemy heavies with our ubersaws and shooting at spastic scouts with our blutsaugers. We are quite aware. We still beat him though. Chained ubers and basically killed their entire defense, securing the final point. He refused to acknowledge that maybe we weren't completely incompetent though, just his surprise that our "shit team" won, then said "man I'm so great" (really) before leaving the game. Kinda rained on our parade a little.
I'd gladly pay to know the adress of someone like this so I could beat them senseless with a baseball bat while telling how huge of an asshole they are.
I played some Turbine today and took some sweet pics! I call this one "Pure Skills" and this is "Asset to Team"
...idiots like the ones above, so it's no surprise that you came across that kind of situation.
Idiots play engie, what else is new? [editline]21st March 2012[/editline]
honestly forming a defense like that is better than dying a lot
Exactly. That's my point. That you can be a complete idiot and still do well as an engine since it's the least skill-based class by far in the game.

Putting the Sentry at the right spot requires at least a bit of a brain.

Nothing very new or offensive about that.
Idiots might play engie but your posts made me realize you aren't any smarter either.
Ohh.. ZING!
if it weren't for those sentries, they wouldn't be able to stop anyone coming in and you would have to do the work all yourself (which I doubt you would even bother with considering what you complain at) I for one am very happy when I see friendly sentries. That way I don't have to babysit the entire base myself.
OBVIOUSLY the sentry guns fill a very important roll. Nobody has claimed otherwise. It's just the complete lack of skill it requires to be the "sentry guy" that I think is bullshit. You know they could've atleast made it so that you don't repair, restock, upgrade, remove sappers, and spycheck/spykill with the same fucking weapon.
I don't think the Engineer needs five more weapon slots just for that.

THAT majorly pisses me off. Especially when it's 3 vs 3. I even remember playing 3 vs 3 last weekend, had to face two level 3 Sentries.

I'm not asking for much. How about making it so you must shoot the sapper to remove it, or at least you must aim with your wrench so you actually hit it. And reducing the wrench damage dramatically to encourage you to kill spies with your shotgun? How about letting the spy place sappers in a specific order, like 1, 2, 3, and then you must destroy each sapper accordingly? The order is visible to the engie. They destroy the buildings faster even, but they do it in order. The engie would have to pay attention, and he wouldn't be able to just sacrifice all buildings just to keep the MUCH more important sentry alive. I don't know, just an idea. And how about nerfing the sentry damage by very much. Make it something like the mini-sentry, but greately boost its health. This would allow the engie to run around more instead of constantly repairing and worrying that the sentry gets sniped by 2 rockets. And the damage nerf would even require the engie to be more active with his guns to actually get kills. And how about this: your sentry gun doesn't work if you are dead or too far away from it (like half the stage). That way, if you as an opponent encounters a defensive engie, you can actually try to take the engineer out, you know, like an actual encounter. You will have the disadvantage since he has his sentry, like it should be in an offensive vs defensive situation, but it won't be impossible if you can outskill the engine. And how about not letting the dispenser give ammo to the engie himself? So that he must go and actively pick up ammo/weapons from time to time? Anything to give the class a more active playstyle without losing his defensive capabilites. Instead of having a sentry gun that's WAY TOO GOOD if you don't counter it, and WAY TOO SHITTY if you do. Bring on the boxes.

Ive seen my team with 5 sentries by the intel get destroyed by 1 uber demo or a couple of spies. Engineers arnt the problem, you just need to find better ways to destroy sentries. There could be moments where the entire team works together and you cant destroy anything, thats just a good team.
Yes because there is NO WAY A SPY AND DEMO OR UBER DEMO COULD TAKE THOSE DOWN, NOT IN A MILLION YEARS.
Missing the point.
Missing the point.
We all think you're dumb. Why haven't you taken the fucking hint?
Missing the point.
You're playing as a scout in those pictures.. Now I see why you think sentry guns are OP
I call this one "The Master Engineers"
And you seem to be a master (flame) baiter.
Bring on the boxes.
I have never seen someone outright despise sentries and engineers so much, not even people who are new to the game. Have you even tried playing an engineer for a good amount of time? The reason sentries are the powerful, automated turrets they are, are for defending objectives to create scenarios in the game where it requires teamwork to take it out.
