Got scammed out of my very first unusual. A few, cheap hats, one wasn't even craftable, and a few metals. (It was an unusual napper's respite with green energy, in case you were wondering)
Was playing TF2 when I suddenly get a trade request out of the blue, I accept and the guy puts up a Sunbeams Soldier's Stash. He says he doesn't know what it's worth, but that he's looking for another unusual for it and was interesting in my Peace Larrikin Robin. I put it up, but he says he thinks his hat is a bit more valuable, and asks if I could possibly add more. Sure, I say, and toss in some other hats and items. Hit ready, do the trade...
I eagerly go to put on my new hat and...!

Around 4 days into playing TF2, my brother was already doing a lot of trading. He managed to snag an orange brain slug for about a refined and he gave it to me because I played a lot of Pyro.
One day, some random person traded me and offered 6 weapons (not even good weapons, too. shit like natascha and the backburner.) for it. I knew hats were worth a lot; I thought the other guy was even newer and didn't know it.
Then, months later, I saw the Scamming Megathread and realized that it was probably some asshole who went into random pubs and offered people far too little for their hats.
I never figured out who it was; it wasn't in my backpack long enough to register on TF2Items and I can't find the scam thread from the right time.

Guy had both a G.Fetti and Sunbeams Stash, he either switched it when I wasn't looking or used some exploit to swap it out at the last minute...I'm not entirely certain.
Oh also, I just remembered another time I was scammed. Was a game for items trade, before Steam trading, so we decided that I'd gift him the game and then he'd give me the items. He put a lot of effort into imitating a reputable trader, same icon, bunch of comments on his page from various users saying he was a trustworthy trader, even linked to the guy's rep thread. With what I thought was such a reputable guy, I thought, who needs a middle man?
Another reason I didn't consider using a middle man was because the game in question was on sale for $2.50

A while ago me and a buddy of mine took all of our valuable items together and traded them for an unusual. It was pretty shit, but still unusual. We then spent days in trading servers, slowly upgrading it. The idea was to get an awesome unusual and then trade it for two, one for each of us. Some time after I posted a thread on SPUF. I got an offer in paypal money which sounded almost too good to be true - and it did. I added the guy, but he wanted me to send him the hat first, he was impersonating a trusted trader from SourceOP. That coupled with my excitement made me forget about getting a middleman.
What happened was, of course, he just took my hat and ran off. I sent a support ticket and steamsupport whiped his backpack.
The funny part was, I later found out that it was our very own [url=http://facepunch.com/members/244367-latin_geek] latin_geek[/url] that did it. He bragged about it in the Scamming Thread.
I remember when I got buds in like '10 or something, I traded them away for like 2 hats. I regretted it so bad when I realized a year or so later that they were valuable, but then I won a pair from TF2R and started profit trading.
Was just about a week after trading came out, when I decided to get a key for a Refined. Opened the crate in the server, and got a Tossle Cap with ghosts. Since I didnt know anything about values, the offer of a Lumbicris Lid, a few Vintages and a non-vintage seemed like a good deal to me at the time. Was only afterwards that I found out it was worth much more.

I gave a friend buds after he begged for about a month. He later trades them for 8 hats even though he knew the value cause he really wanted those hats.
I got my peace rubber glove switch scammed by some complete asshole on a trading server.
Fuck 3am trades.
I wanted to buy a green energy veil with 6 buds but then the asshole quickswitched it for a flies one :suicide:
That wasn't such a bad trade. Flies veil is pretty expensive as far as I know.
My stories:
- lost 32 keys to a scammer and a fake middleman impersonating dmtdude. The real dmtdude recovered a logo glengarry for me. Also steam support gave me the keys back, after bugging them with mails.
- lost 2 bills to another scammer, trying to get Minecraft for a friend. I will never make gifts to ungrateful strangers.
- lost a Deus Ex key to a scammer on a trade server. He told me he will ban me from the server for selling keys, but he wanted to buy it. After activating it, he "run away".
- lost some hats to a guy who said he will buy me some cheap games. Because steam servers were fucked(during summer sale), he told me he sent the games, but he revoked the gifts right after getting the hats.
I win this thread. You can all go home now.
First day premium, traded my clean high five, meet the medic and crate #30 (all found) for strange axtinguisher, boston basher and one key.

I traded a craftable drill sargeants for an uncraftable tyrants helm and big chief. Not a HUGE deal, but biggest thing I've done so far.

back when trading was a month old, I got back from a one year tf2 break. traded my entire sam and max set for v. hotrod, v. tower, a proc mask and a whiskered gentleman. I didn't know what it was worth back then. Asshole then proceeded to gloat about it on voice chat
When trading came out I was the first one to drop a crate. Then I traded it for a Big Kill because I always wanted one. Also traded a vintage baker boy for a bills again not knowing the prices. And this only to trade the big kill+bills+my vintage medic mask I dropped for a milkman. I was like: well 3 useless items without a gameplay effect for one that gives you 25+ health. Sounds like a fair deal. And I was happy until I discovered spreadsheet.
Then a guy quickswitch scammed me out of my vintage lugermorph and genuine boots. He replaced his unusual with a haunted item and I was too tired to notice it.
I was selling buds and sold 5 to a guy who had an okay amount of rep. I went first and he ran off. I got a heart attack but luckily it was a misunderstanding and he sent me the money later.
I tried to buy a craft hat that turned out to be uncraftable. Suttles layed the smackdown though and perma'd the guy until he gave me my metal back. Love you Suttles!
Worst trades i've done:
-Mad milk for 1x Earbuds (the guy changed the max for the mad milk and i was too tired to notice)
-Hearts Kabuto for Flies Chief ( He offered a scorching one but changed it for a massed flies, i was too tired to notice)
Now thats why i dont do important trades when im sleepy...

Why did the ebenezer lose so much of its worth?
Back when trading first came out. I had Max's Severed Head, and I didn't realize it's worth so I ended up trading it.
...and my other Sam & Max items were also traded.
