On XP, just run services.msc and disable Windows Zero Config.
This thing got patched waaaaaaaay back. OP's post is extremely dated, Vista users won't have to worry about this anymore.
I have SP2 installed and still had the problem. The post isn't extremely dated - I still have to explain how to fix this to plenty of Vista and XP gamers. I just fixed it for one 2 days ago, in fact, and he did the ping test to check that he WAS having this problem. So, I'm all for raising awareness about this issue.
I can't stand ubering someone who gets a spike and stands still for 3 seconds.

Try this

worked with fixing the ping spikes (before it got "patched", for me at least)
I don't lag at all...runs as smooth as anything, and I have vista and wireless connection
Of course, some people don't have this problem due to everyone having different drivers.
Then why did you post here?
The title asked for Lagging people with vista and wireless....

Because it's simple: Get a better internet modem
Linksys is a respectable company, and I am using their most popular products.
Whatever. Let's keep this thread to those who DO have the problem, since... that is exactly what this thread is about.
Sorry for the bump, but I seam to have spontaneously acquired this problem. I think it is from the latest Vista update or something. The vista anti-lag program seams to have worked but the box you check to make it start with windows is grayed out and cannot be checked. Is there another way to get this to activate when you start windows?

Run it as admin?
Also, thanks for posting this. I found this out a while ago, but this is a really annoying problem and I'm glad more people know how to fix it.
