Well, looks like I'm going to have to install steam on linux if I actually want to use it. Valve, why do you make it hard for me to use your applications? This is incredibly frustrating given that this was an issue in the beta, I uninstalled the beta specifically so I wouldn't have this and the bug persists past beta testing. I'm fairly sure the only way I can use steam now is to reinstall my OS or get linux.

Seeing the reactions in the thread I'll probably just do it for my friends then.

Ok, posting here as a public service style thing. If you have issues launching steam with the new bootstrapper, launch steamtmp.exe from your steam folder, not steam.exe, it uses the old bootstrapper and you can play until valve fixes the bug. Now I'll start speculating as I've made several posts on this now. I don't think this penguin will be anything like the earbuds in terms of value, but I don't personally think it looks horrible.
