I think the promos are pretty nice overall.
so even if my tf2 crashes at the startup i get tux?
It didnt even start for me and i got it
Even though they ruin the style of the game, you have to admit that these promos are very creative. I'm conflicted that creative item sets like the Heavy as Carl/a Heavy Metal player, the Pyro as a Clown, the Demo as a Shogun Samurai, and other items end up further distancing TF2 from it's very particular retro-spytech/industrial 60's theme. Had any other "cartoon" styled video game with a less themed artstyle pulled the TF2 approach to items/updates and had their own weapons/cosmetics/item sets with the attention and dedication Valve gave to TF2, these items would be much more appreciated I would hope. It's a pity Valve tried these experimental updates on TF2 instead of some other cartoon game with a less exact theme.
Don't rely on an update today though, since it's Saturday. It would be nice if Valve made another exception to the general rule though.

I'm a nut for esthetic consistency, but there's no denying a lot of the items I dismiss for being unfitting are beautiful and well made judged only by their own merits.

I think that even though the game's a guinea pig, it wasn't really made to be and should be able to be enjoyed as it was at its release.
Why can't a heavy bring a metal guitar into the battlefield. A random man, gives the heavy a random guitar, the heavy, as he is an idiot, doesn't know what to do with it, so, why not just bash the enemies' heads off with it?
Since when has Heavy been established as an idiot? I thought that was Soldier's job.
Heavy isn't an idiot, he has a PhD in Russian Literature!
Since when has Heavy been established as an idiot? I thought that was Soldier's job.
Maybe Heavy does not look smart, but from what I understand he's the only team member well educated through russian literature (beside Spy, who we know little to nothing from him).
And dreams of being in Moscow ballet, On a side note, is heavy Russian or eastern european, I always thought he was like eastern European
Heavy isn't an idiot, he has a PhD in Russian Literature!
he's actually really smart he just has a rough grasp on english
Poor Heavy, no one understands him.
Maybe Heavy does not look smart, but from what I understand he's the only team member well educated through russian literature (beside Spy, who we know little to nothing from him).
dont forget the engineer has 12 PhDs
Scout is the dumb guy who tried to pick up all the girls :v:
I guess we now know one of the new ways Adult Swim and Valve are working together http://store.steampowered.com/app/224820/ That is to say, Valve is working on getting AS games into the Steam Store
The Adultswim-Valve partnership has been a massive disappointment so far. The "TF" short was an embarrassment.
The main gripe I have with people complaining about the artstyle is that while vanilla TF2 was obviously amazing, the artstyle didn't have much room to expand. For example, what 60's-appropriate spytech-themed hats can you think of for a black Scottish demolitions expert? Or even weapons? They basically had to throw some very specific guidelines away to do more content. If they kept with them, we'd basically have 5 fedoras for the Spy and that's it. oh wait
The Adultswim-Valve partnership has been a massive disappointment so far. The "TF" short was an embarrassment.
what short
what short
The Robot Chicken one.
It seems its banable to use it now. I used it and I got VAC Banned. Proof: http://steamcommunity.com/id/omfgcata/ I got banned right after I had used it after a few hours. My alts which I had not used it on did not get banned. I understand that this is bannable and I fully support that Valve did what they thought was unnecessary, all I want to do is warn others to not do the same mistake.
yeah because more than one day passed obviously take a picture of your vac banned games
The Robot Chicken one.
Yup. [editline]16th February 2013[/editline]
yeah because more than one day passed obviously take a picture of your vac banned games
No need to worry, false alarm.
The Robot Chicken one.
It was more or a joke about the Nerd really.
Hm. I don't want to start an argument. I find the esthetics of vanilla TF2 really cool and unique and I think it's a bloody shame Valve started cramming the game full of the kind of random pop cultural mishmash you can find anywhere else, but I'm aware that most people have a different opinion, and they're of course perfectly well entitled to keep it. With that being said, I don't think 'being from the 60s' is the only requirement to make something fitting. It's a matter of setting, design and mood as well. And in those respects, I'd say there's a pretty big difference between these two things: [t]http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/225260/extras/bl_heavy_small.png[/t] [t]http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090324200820/half-life/en/images/5/5d/Hydro_concept1.jpg[/t]
I do like how it looks now, but you're still absolutely right. Figures that'd come from a guy with a Grim Fandango avatar.
I should get to build up a virtual machine for this tux. Because I'm an idiot. Any idea of the average time it takes?
Yup. [editline]16th February 2013[/editline] No need to worry, false alarm.
i dont really care lol, i dont even play tf2 that much and my account is f2p with barely any hats anyway :p there's l4d2 i guess but bans for that are seperate
The Robot Chicken one.
Why does the heavy and soldier in that short look perfect but the sniper and medic look like shit. Edit:Quoted wrong person.
