Considering that I've heard it's supposed to be a super-mega optimization update, I assume it will make the game run a lot better.
How much more FPS are we talking here?
so no tf2 update today :c
How much more FPS are we talking here?
"stable" 45????? dunno ^ and that is for old PCs , new ones should get over 60 for sure
does anyone have ANY idea when dota will get to that point where it's good enough to run with small weekly patches and tf2 can get some traction going?
For anyone still nervous/curious about ordering figures from online retailers: I ordered a Pyro through BigBadToyStore when they were first announced (Oct 15th), and received it yesterday in perfect condition. I ordered a Demoman through ToyWiz months later (Dec 8th), and received it today in perfect condition. Not trying to be a shill, I just got a little concerned for my orders when people started stating their problems with various stores. My own personal experience has been good with both companies. Now bring on that update! I'm actually surprised the (possibly not) placeholders for the in-game items weren't hats from the recently retired series. That would've caused quite a stir.
how can they be placeholders if people already redeemed the codeS?

As for how long that will take..only gaben knows... Dota-wise, if valve waits until all heroes are done to release the game , and considering there's 13 left, and also the fact that valve is releasing them in a 2-week lapse (meaning due to variables that one month may have only 1 heroe), Brings us to the conclusion that the game will be done by 2014. and from then , we should speculate on tiny weekly patches. :v:

At this rate, i will never finish downloading dota

[sp]I think the Engie is hot.[/sp]
how can they be placeholders if people already redeemed the codeS?
People in other continents were able to redeem them when the standard placeholder was still there (which was a normal quality flare gun).
[sp]I think the Engie is hot.[/sp]
At least Jose is honest with the fact that people mostly enjoy the comic for fan service. (I think he was the guy who made Engie-tan's hair available in SDT...)
EDIT: nevermind...it started...2 gigs!!!! is this gonna help the game run better or why are they doing this?
"Dota 2 client now loads 2.6 times quicker and the game itself loads 2.1 times quicker with the new file packing.
Please, Valve. Hear this man's words. Hear our voices. We want a gigantic optimization update. Even if it takes us as long to download it as running around the entire border of Russia, this is the most important thing you can ever do at this point.
you wont, the reason they did it with dota is because the load times could be stupidly long. and if you took too long to load and get into the game, you would be out into low priority for a while (no drops or exp, and stuck with the worst of the worst of dota).

Dota: "Oh no, I'm at low priority in Dota because of the load times, and I can't get my precious drops!" Valve: "Okay, we'll fix that and probably destroy our own servers with this massive patch!" Scribbled note from TF2: "SEND HELP. NEW CRASH EVERY WEEK. BUGS RAMPANT. GAME NEARLY UNPLAYABLE." Valve: "Ooh, let's add another 25 svdl/Sparkwire hats and drop the Flamethrower damage by 20%!"
Scribbled note from TF2: "SEND HELP. NEW CRASH EVERY WEEK. BUGS RAMPANT. GAME NEARLY UNPLAYABLE."
If only Maxwell was here... [SUP]No, I don't know why those two words reminded me of Scribblenauts.[/SUP]

[approx]"
Doesn't really help if we don't have specific specs of all 4 PCs (which the tester appears unwilling to give). If I were in charge of a hardware site and wanted to bench D2 load times before and after, these results would be thrown out due to the fact that "decent-spec" and "high-end" is ambiguous. Decent-spec could mean a Pentium 4, and high-end could mean a AMD Sempron. So, got to treat those results as bullshit until specs arrive (unlikely). If you're not going to post your specs for your figures, don't bother including the figures in the title. Hope it's not too late for demoman appreciation! The shiny plastic reminded me of the nestene. [t]http://i.imgur.com/X1BudEN.png[/t] More on-topic, has there been any hints on what the movie will be on? It would make sense if it was part of the MvM future timeline, all plot in recent comics and updates have been about it.
Pardon my lack of intelligence but what exactly is SteamPipe? I know L4D2 and Portal 2 use it...and currently can't be used for Gmod.
SteamPipe makes it so that developers can ship updates themselves. It also brings support for delta updates; Steam currently only supports file updates. So if a developer has packed their entire game in a 4GB archive, you'll have to redownload the whole thing if it's using the current system, but it'll patch only the required sections of the file if it's using SteamPipe. Gmod currently cannot use SteamPipe because most of Valve's titles don't.

I remember that GMod actually Supports L4D2, but that was removed from the list because survivor models had invisible parts when they were in lod0. Wasn't it?

EDIT: I SPECULATE this will be a pain in the ass.
what's up with decal tools there's like a goldmine of opportunities and valve forgets about it
Gray [had the third life extender]
Yes, but he probably built it himself, not Radigan. Those were Radigan Conagher's blueprints that mentioned the third life extender, so there has to be a fourth one (probably not the same type as Grey's one, which actually slowed the process of aging).
Fairly sure I'm late with this but Gabe talks about economics.
