Major Update Speculation Thread v12: Layoffs Edition

I remember the explanation the tf2 team gave the 1upyours podcast as to why the Ubersaw was more of an upgrade than a sidegrade:
It was the badass reward. To get the Ubersaw originally you had to complete the 36 achievements so it was designed to be a pretty big deal. If you came across a guy with an Ubersaw you were supposed to be imprssed with his dedication.
Then of course people farmed and the philosophy was pretty much scrapped a few updates later.
It's funny how many design changes this game has gone through. Lots of redundant legacy material sitting idle.
if they never lowered the requirements or provided any other way to get the Ubersaw, I still, to this day, would not have one
Spy, Sniper and Pyro are the only two classes I have 100% of the achievements for.
Imagine if you needed 36/36 for the gunslinger. Irritating bastards would be revered as mystical machine gods.
I hadn't really realized how close I was to getting 100% of the class achievements

Most just need 1 or 2.

Uhh? That's a great achievement to do so
I would still love to see the Megaheal being given a Crit Resistance, like the Backup Battalion does.
As well as making the BBattalion work like the old Concheror so it can be effective on offense and not being a sitting duck.
The QF would be a nice counter to the Kritz (especially in pubs with Demos having a Medics up their asses), same would go with the BBattalion. Both can deny a powerful weapon, either on one or many teammates.
Dunno, would make two weapons viable options.
Uhh? That's a great achievement to do so
it originally read Spy and Pyro, but upon checking my achievements, I noticed Sniper was 100% too
The frozen metagame is the worst thing that could've happened to competitive TF2, specially 6s.
A prime example of it came with the Mecha Update. 2 days after it was released, a lot of people who are big in the competitive scene (such as Sal) claimed the Vaccinator was "bullshit","completely useless" and "it desperately needed a buff" (along with the Loose Cannon, go figure). All of which happened because everyone was playing according to the metagame. Always buff completely, be careful of dropping your charge, and think before pushing. When, in reality, all they had to do was switch to the explosive resistance and kill the Medic, which would leave the enemy w/o an uber, and would make pushes much easier.
Another example is the Scottish resistance. It came out the the WAR! update (December 17th, 2009), and only now are people actually coming up with effective strategies for it, simply because teams are afraid to experiment.
If I ever play competitive, it's gonna be highlander for sure.

It's funny how they change their philosophy about something, but forget to change the actions that went with it.
Slightly unrelated, but I see a mail truck. could it be?
[editline]1st February 2013[/editline]
Could the demoman be locked up in a box of Eldridge horror?!?!
My demo figure just does not want to stand up. I commend NECA on the accuracy of the figure, even down to his drunkeness
OH FUCK HERE COMES DA MAILMAN

great. More dildos to hide.
[editline]1st February 2013[/editline]
I just legitimately saw him at a house before mine and he disappeared.
It feels like a TF2 update was supposed to happen but I got nothing.

Comes with a redeem code for this item!

:v:
apparently those are the real voice actors for the TF2 team in Sega Racing ._.
It can't possibly be... but they said it was in the credits
The waiting game continues.
They probably went to their studio to record, not Valve's.
It's coming Tuesday. Confirmed.
valve time at its best.

1-800-Bad-Dragon? They can't have his brand; he has a special butt.
Also Damoman has a good point, one that I argued back in the day; we used to have unlocks unlocked by performing achievements related to playing that character, and Ubersaw was meant to be an iconic badge of "I am a good doctor", whereas nowadays we just get them anyhow. Don't get me wrong, I kinda like getting random drops, it's one of the reasons why I enjoy playing games like Diablo and Path of Exile; it's just that there was at one time a system built around working hard to get the items you want, whereas now it's a less-skilled, yet still engaging, lottery kinda dealio. I remember back in the day suggesting a system of Worth, wherein completing specific objectives during a match would earn you "experience points" that would add up over time, and once it maxes out the counter resets and you get an item. I think I emailed that to Robin one time in the past, and I almost think he musta read it, because I realise that Dota 2 has a VERY similar system that combines random drops with an experience bar! Basically you earn Battle Points from matches in Dota 2, and you are guaranteed an item when you max out the bar, but there is also a random chance of getting a random drop every time a match is completed. If that idea honestly came from my old idea back in the day, I actually feel kinda awesome for secretly inspiring that system; probably wasn't though, since they might've found something similar elsewhere.
Pyro is understandable. Sega probably didn't know the proper filtering things Valve used, so they just winged it.
Heavy is alright. Could just be a different sound engineer's touch making it sound off.
But Spy isn't even close :x

What does spy sound like?
What does spy sound like?
You know how spy sounds? Yeah, not that.
he's also cigarette-less!
he's also cigarette-less!
Maybe that's why he sounds different

Him in a jet and smoking would've probably led to swallowing the cigarette :v:
I know they apply filters to the Heavy's and Pyro's voice, so maybe SEGA's recording studio didn't have those resources. Also, Heavy's voice actor's quality has been getting worse if you compare his voice lines from MVM and the latest Meet the Teams/Ads to the Heavy Update/Meet the Heavy lines.
Still can't explain Spy, maybe he just wasn't that into it, was rushed, wasn't being paid enough, or maybe the actors that are credited actually didn't do the voices and uncredited actors did.
Whoever did Ralph should have did Heavy. His John Reilly impression was near spot on, and he probably could have mimicked Heavy okay too.
