The point of this thread isn't to start a server.. It's alot easier to come on here and look for an item or two than to need to start up TF2, join a server, and hope someone is online. (Not necessarily in that order.) Besides.. The thread will reboot with givers when it is re-created in V2.
Other cons of a server? Items would be given away much quicker, people would need to ask for each other FP identity's to know who they are, and for the first while, every second post would have the potential to be "EVERYONE GET IN THE SERVER NAO."
Now.. I don't have a problem at all with you opening up a free items server.. I just don't want it integrated into this thread.
