• TF2 has changed

All games must eventually change or die. It'd be awesome nostalgia if Valve made the pre-goldrush TF2 available after TF2 has changed couple times more.
I think OP misses Heavy picnics and the time when voice commands didn't have cooldown. I really remember clearly the days in 2fort when 10 scouts chilled in spawn shouting shit about dispensers every. damn. second. But hey, some gamebreaking stuff has been released, but even more have they released stuff that improves the experience and variety. Gamebreakers and rage-inducing items are stuff like: FaN, Razorback and the Sniper's collection bonus (Headshot invulnerability) But in return, we got awesome stuff like Axtinguisher, Homewrecker, Jarate, Black Box, Buff Banner, Eyelander, Targe, Equalizer, Gunboats and many others. Unlike real life, in TF2 the formula has been: Triumphant evolutions > Failing evolutions of the game. While in real life, evolution has usually done everything by trial and error, and there has been about 100 errors per a single success. Which i see as a good example of game devs honestly trying. Although i still do dissapprove a few aspects, everything is counterable. Nothing is universally superior in this game, which is why i still play it. And about the fun aspect of the game, it really depends where you play. Many russian and american servers and about half of the European servers are full of "public server's score is my life"-people But in some servers, there are people who actually just have fun, sometimes have a match but usually mess around doing jackshit. I know by experience these are still around...just not as many as before.
i agree i think tf2 has lost a bit of it's magic touch
I remember when I first saw the flare gun in 08. I was like "how the hell did you ignite me from across the map?" Good times, Good times...
Really sorry for bump, but there is explaination which I didn't found in thread.
Maybe too much? With this MannConomy update...
...cp_bestinclass is unplayable (and some others too, didn't tried rickrollrocket, panda...something and scout_jump), there is bug in TF2, overloaded modelprecache table (try to download it and run, it stops in the middle of loading and gives you funny info if you check console), probably because of these new models from Polycount Pack. Also, tr_walkway (at least _rc2) doesn't work too (same problem).
But now somehow things changed alot. [...] Let me explain that, Dont you remember, Fun maps? 3 years ago, Cp_bestinclass was fun as hell. [...] Multiplay.co.uk always had good servers, cp servers a Fun map rotation , scoutjump [...] Call me a nostalgic man, but I think that people that played Fun maps over 2 years ago will understand my point.
Yeah, I also remember that. I wasn't able to play TF2 for year (now I can play) and now I'm not playing it as in these old times. I've been also playing ZombieFortress. Now, with engie update and some other ones, it's not as fun as before, there should really be some commands pack to disable selected big updates (I don't like SourceMod) for old gamemodes gameplay compatibility. New content is great, I like it, but old gamemodes weren't written for it. Also, I'm still playing with default weapons while being spy (eventually using Cloak'n'Dagger). I just like old ones (Revolver FTW)
The gameplay is still the same. Quit your whining.
Not really the same (while still fun), and my some of my fav maps are not working.
Its still kickass, just less kickass then it was
Nope, it is even more kickass now. Just some of old fun gamemodes are now unbalanced. PS. I've contacted Steam Support, tried if that modelprecache problem wasn't fault of corrupted files (it wasn't, downloaded all files again, cousin and friends can't run these maps too), waiting for reply. But don't worry, they could fix it.
Team fortress 2... Team fortress 2 never changes.
Team fortress 2... Team fortress 2 never changes.
Fuck I was gonna post this. :v:
Team Fortress 2 is still Team Fortress 2, you know. No need to keep bitching about it because it's still the same game.
Three of you. Read whole thread instead of posting that it's the same. It's still our TF2, it's still fun while playing classic maps, but if you want to play ZombieFortress, it's not as fun with wranglering engineers. My main point is that some of old maps are not working. Try it yourself.
If you think it's not fun anymore then stop playing. When will you people ever learn.
Was about time one of those threads came up. Was too long since the last one of those popped up.
If you think it's not fun anymore then stop playing. When will you people ever learn.
It is much more fun than before to play. Just some of my old fav gamemodes are unbalanced now, and my fav maps are broken. Please, try to understand me... edit:
Was about time one of those threads came up. Not another one... Edit: Bump, Not intended... :v:
Not another one...
Thats a very old thread. Look the post dates.
Fuck I was gonna post this. :v:
That was meant as a joke though, I'm nostalgic about TF2.
But 2fort. 2fort never changes.
Yeah, it's still as fun as it was
I, for one, love the new TF2. Sure the constant trading going on gets annoying from time to time, but all the cosmetic items make the game look unique. I honestly think every critic site should re-review TF2. It's evolved so much in the past 3 years.
That was meant as a joke though, I'm nostalgic about TF2.
I was trying to make the joke too... :v:
In my opinion, most of the new weapons are UP so I don't mind. I just dislike some badly designed weapons, and the set hats. I also feel bad for the art style.
I also feel bad for the art style.
Yeah that's my main problem with all of this. I hate how Saxton Hale went from a parody of bad ad to one of the most important character of the game. I want my subtle cold war parody filled with dark humor back. :saddowns:
I was pissed off when they made these "losing team animations". My heroes ended as some cowards when unarmed. PS. not to mention that Soldier is now an idiot (One, one, one, uhh... ONE!), but this one is funny :D

You could argue that the Announcer was only meant to be a disembodied voice, but she eventually became her own character. Same for the Mann family; they were once just an excuse to explain away the excuse plot, but even they are getting a bit of limelight every once in a while (and introducing new family members, for that matter). It's building up the universe of TF2 and defining how the characters relate to their environment. I really like it. And I wouldn't say Saxton was that important; maybe just popular. And no matter what you think of the MANN store, it still fits with the universe of TF2. Saxton supplies the mercenaries with weapons, so naturally he would supply the players with purchasable items. People may not agree with it, but I still think it was pretty clever. However, I do agree about the art style to an extent; I agree that some of the new hats don't quite fit with the established art direction. However, because they are purely optional aesthetic elements seen only in gameplay, I don't really care all too much. Let people have their wacky hats.

That side was completely whiped off when they came up with all that Mann business, and I thought that 2007 TF2 was full of hilarious jokes but quite subtle, such as giant farms hiding big bases full of advanced technology, strangely awkward and familiars historical events, stereotyped as hell characters (Well they haven't changed, but they're clearly not exactly the same anymore). It seems like valve goes now for a different kind of humor, it's less subtle and it's right in your face: silly hats, silly weapons and characters. I don't really mind all of this, but it seems like there are 2 differents TF2, the actual TF2 and the 2007 TF2, in terms of everything; gameplay and background, mostly. I don't hate the actual TF2, but I have to admit I prefer 2007 TF2.
When was Soldier EVER not a moron?
Good point... Before Meet the Soldier maybe (there was only trading card which described him)

I still enjoy all the humor TF2 has to offer, but I can agree that the initial charm of TF2 will always be one of my favorite aspects of the game.
Good point... Before Meet the Soldier maybe (there was only trading card which described him)
Well even in 2007 he couldn't wear a helmet like a normal person and was completely batshit insane, we just didn't know he's a civilian
Yeah, that's essentially what got me playing this game to begin with. Everything changes, I guess, I like all those characters and backstories they added throughout the updates and all no matter what.
I wish I knew what TF2 '07 was like.
TF2 was starting to get boring for me before the first major update came out. If it wasn't for the promised new updates, I would have quit TF2, and never even look back on it. I'm glad that I never quit TF2.
Hey, that guy is using the bat I made in the 3rd video. :buddy:
