I'm sorry if we've already been through this, but why don't strange parts work on regular weapons as well? What about it'd upgrade any unique weapon to strange, but only count it's stat, not all kills.

I don't see much into item schema, but from ned's words it seems Valve's extremely lazy about it (and it works that way, so that's fine), and yeah, it'd be probably quite a lot of work for too little.
