The engine method is way quicker than painting it over in photoshop. I should know, I did all of the paint variants two and a half times, using both methods.
I seriously support this idea.
impossible under the current method of painting, it simply applies a solid RGB colour to an alpha map
You can always dream

Your team colored gloves looking better than Stewsta's ones.
Bill's Hat and the Vintage Tyrolean are already teamcolored.
But yeah, it would be an interesting idea...
Ten Gallon would be effected too right?
[editline]31st October 2010[/editline]
If Valve deiced ton two specific color palettes this color will always use, wouldn't that mean that if the default palette colors were bright, darkly teamcolored hats would still be effected.
If the default color was a dark team color, then brightly teamcolored hats would be effected.
Billycock, Tyrolean, Pickelhaube, Gentleman's Gatsby, Frenchman's Beret, Carousel's Captain, Pugilist and Handyman's Handle would be noticeably effected if the default team color was bright.
Whoopee Cap, Troublemaker's Tosslecap, Hallmark, Brigade, Bonk Helmet, Tyrants, Glengarry, Toque, Batter's, Football helmet and Engineer's cap would be noticably effected if the default team color was dark.
It's a good idea, this team-coloured paint. Hopefully it'll squeeze into the drop system if Valve picks it up...
This is a good idea, though.

Unfortunately mine is more accurate to what it would be in-game. I do love the colour of that red one though.
My comment or the ketchup fro?
I would totally wear a ketchup Fro :v:

Sexy isnt it.
As many others have said, I also had thought of this idea and would love to see it implemented.
Side-Based Saturation is the best name in my opinion.
I have an idea, you can paint Engie's goggles if you paint his hatless.

And it applies to other colours too.

May be impossible because all the 'hatless hats' do is change a model group, not attatch a new one.
Plus then you'd have people running around with pink engi goggles.
You can't paint hatless hats because they are apart of the default model. If you painted a hatless Engineer, ALL Engineers would have that color. But yeah, most people know that.
Tyrolean is already team colored.
What if they make a duplicate goggles model that covers the old one?

I doubt they would do that to be honest.
I like the idea of team colored paints, but I also think it'd be a good idea to just have separate red and blue paints. There's are some hats that look good in red, but bad in blue (and red is my favorite color).
Now that I think about it, having separate red and blue paint might cause confusion with blu/red players confusing red/blu players as being on the same team.
That's why this "separate red and blue paint" you guys have going on is really really silly.
There's a reason why Valve didn't do that in the first place.
jesus christ the masters red belt sounds incredibly painful
i dont even know how blue would work
It wouldn't be paintable.
Or it would and people would be scarred for life.

Uhm why wouldn't it be paintable? It's already paintable with every paint can as of now.

Well, it's just that... Hm... Okay, you win.

:v:
this would be perfect
valve do it
It would look cool with maybe red and blue highlights.
Would look best with a really really slight red/blue tint.
I thought this was going to be about painting the hat twice, one color for each team.
I thought this was going to be about painting the hat twice, one color for each team.
I like this better. You craft team-color paint with two other paints, then specify which color for which team.
Your idea got added to tf2 :buddy:
