actually the number shows up in-game as well. i guess you're not fond of vintage/strange/genuine/unusual items.
it dosent show up on the crafted stuff I have
vintage/genuine/unusuals are just stuff valve did to prop the fake economy up and stranges are actually pretty useful for tracking how much you use a weapon
atleast unusuals actually look different ingame

No. People do pay more for random numbers that happen to coincide with something; you'll see people paying far more for a 42 then a 41 or 43 as well.
