What's the view like from your ivory tower anyway? Been meaning to ask.
I'm actually not that rich, I just know how to trade and adapt to the market changes.
Because not everyone is a regular trader, they enjoy paying the same price they paid 3 months ago instead of having to add a rec every week.
Precisely this, as well as the worry that things will reach a crashing point at the rate it's going, which would be bad news for everyone. I really don't want to see TF2's economy go the way of Runescape's, where absolutely anything interesting is out of the average person's reach, due to how hilariously bloated the currency is. Even as a person whose backpack is worth nearly $600, I feel the pain of the trading community as a whole right now, having to deal with previously reasonable goals slowly drifting out of sight.
Then why do you need keys if you're not a regular trader? Aren't most of the items you "not regular traders" go after fairly cheap and easy to buy with refined in the first place?
For any number of reasons really. New crate unboxing, cashing out, trading for a game on sale right now etc.
Well, there are some things that are fairly pricey that normal players would like to get. All-Father, Doublecross-Comm, the taunts. Hell, maybe some of those Buck Turners. Frankly, despite the explanation, I fail to see what the actual reason is for key prices continually rising, apart from making Short and his friends some extra cash.

Funny thing is that I genuinely warned him a couple weeks ago that buying carded keys can get your account tradelocked. I tried to explain to him that he's laundering money and that's illegal. He laughed and blocked me. Who's laughing now, dickhead. [editline]t[/editline] Best part is he has no hope of appeal. That image as well as the logs Valve has of that chat session (since they were monitoring him) mean he can't plead ignorance. He's fucked.
http://backpack.tf/vote/id/514bdaf6ba25360d4e000008 9 hours, fuck yeah.
Since that dickhead long216 is trade banned keys are going to go down, right?
Since that dickhead long216 is trade banned keys are going to go down, right?
Maybe. What needs to happen is his remaining few greedy followers need to become outnumbered by sensible people who don't give a shit about their voting accuracy.
Since that dickhead long216 is trade banned keys are going to go down, right?
Since he have 26 banned alts, what can stop him from creating one more "main"?
Well, those alts were only accounts for Reddit. Thing here is that he has a few rather nice things in his backpack, and they're no longer going to exist, if my understanding is correct.
Well, those alts were only accounts for Reddit. Thing here is that he has a few rather nice things in his backpack, and they're no longer going to exist, if my understanding is correct.
Pretty much every key, everything he bought with carded keys, and anything else Valve feels like deleting will be gone. And he may also be investigated outside Steam for being a money mule.
It doesn't say he's trade banned... Am I missing something here?
Perhaps some sense will be restored to the economy with this money-laundering fool revealed for the manipulative creature he was. But probably not.
Man, i remember when trading first started out and a key was worth less than a refined, because the idea going around was that "A key should not be worth more than a hat" (Craft hats were worth a single refined). In the 2 years of occasionally looking at trading i've only seen them ever go up at an exponential rate and honestly unless some dude miraculously obtains ~1000 legit keys and sells them at a lower price I don't see this trend changing.
Who needs TV dramas when we have the tf2 economy, I don't know :v:

What the hell. No, seriously. What the hell. That's not even funny.
that site is a fucking joke
Oh boy, not only is he sucking dicks of the admins, he also has hundreds of keys in his backpack.
Oh boy, not only is he sucking dicks of the admins, he also has hundreds of keys in his backpack.
as long as he has the trade ban the keys are worthless anyway
Oh boy, not only is he sucking dicks of the admins, he also has hundreds of keys in his backpack.
What does that have to do with him suggesting a new price?
This. 100x this and I'm not even a trader. I do think, however, that prices will drop significantly in August like they always do. University students gotta buy their books, and quick-sells rule the day. But I'm trying to do my part to keep the market stable, for whatever it's worth. As for long, I managed to stick cautions on several of his carding buddies that I had evidence on, though I originally gave them scammer tags. But I was told to reduce them to cautions because my evidence wasn't strong enough. Trust me, this has not escaped my notice. Myself and another admin have been investigating carders for a while.
It doesn't say he's trade banned... Am I missing something here?
He's trade locked, not trade banned. If he was trade banned, he'd have the big red X on his SR profile with Banned by Valve. Trade locked people can't buy games or anything, however, so while it doesn't outwardly affect your rep it is more restrictive.
snip, wrong thread
I might be slow on this, but what are carded keys exactly? All I know is they aren't legit and long has been fucking with us using them and backpack.tf. to make big profit
Keys purchased using stolen credit cards.
I might be slow on this, but what are carded keys exactly? All I know is they aren't legit and long has been fucking with us using them and backpack.tf. to make big profit
Person A steals person B's credit card information. Since he can't withdraw money directly from it, he uses a throwaway steam account and buys a ton of keys using the credit card. Now he has to get rid of those keys quick, and he buys, say, earbuds for 32 keys a piece from person C (no big deal, since he got those keys for free). Then he sells those earbuds for cash, thus laundering stolen money. Person C, in turn, gets a lot of easy profit by selling his item (earbuds in this case) for above the market price. The bad things about this are that person B has his money stolen, and that the future owners of carded keys are under risk of having those keys revoked. In our case, Long is C, knowingly trading for carded keys, had a lot of them and tried to raise their price, thus making profit.
I might be slow on this, but what are carded keys exactly? All I know is they aren't legit and long has been fucking with us using them and backpack.tf. to make big profit
A carded key is when someone uses stolen money to buy keys. It comes from the word "carding" which is a colloquialism used to describe the process of buying things with stolen credit cards. While this sometimes happens still, now it seems that carders steal Paypal accounts or use throwaway ones, make new accounts or buy hijacked accounts, and attach those to stolen credit cards. They then launder the keys through a few other accounts usually before selling them to their known resellers. The saddest part of this is that they don't think twice about the person whose real-life finances are being messed up by this. Their little antics cause real life financial damage to someone else. Somewhere there is a single mom who can barely make ends meet who is getting evicted because a cashier stole her credit card number and sold that number on the internet. She can't get it worked out with the bank fast enough and sobs as homelessness looms in front of her. While some bratty kid who used her card illegally makes a profit from selling virtual keys. It's disgusting.
