The saddest part of this is that they don't think twice about the person whose real-life finances are being messed up by this. Their little antics cause real life financial damage to someone else. Somewhere there is a single mom who can barely make ends meet who is getting evicted because a cashier stole her credit card number and sold that number on the internet. She can't get it worked out with the bank fast enough and sobs as homelessness looms in front of her. While some bratty kid who used her card illegally makes a profit from selling virtual keys. It's disgusting.
Doesn't the bank cover this? Or is proving that someone stole your data a lengthy and complicated process?
Person A steals person B's credit card information. Since he can't withdraw money directly from it, he uses a throwaway steam account and buys a ton of keys using the credit card. Now he has to get rid of those keys quick, and he buys, say, earbuds for 32 keys a piece from person C (no big deal, since he got those keys for free). Then he sells those earbuds for cash, thus laundering stolen money. Person C, in turn, gets a lot of easy profit by selling his item (earbuds in this case) for above the market price. The bad things about this are that person B has his money stolen, and that the future owners of carded keys are under risk of having those keys revoked.
In our case, Long is C, knowingly trading for carded keys, had a lot of them and tried to raise their price, thus making profit.
What's worse about what Long did is that he not only horded the carded keys he got, but he also traded a ton of people for buds with them. Hopefully Valve doesn't do what they sometimes do with carded keys when they have problems tracking the main launder: banning everyone who has a history with them.
Doesn't the bank cover this? Or is proving that someone stole your data a lengthy and complicated process?
Usually it's somewhat simple, as long as the card-owner is smart enough to check their statements quickly enough before paying them. Or unless the card-issuer thinks the card-owner is doing "friendly fraud" (lying to get free goods). And it's not like it's a victimless crime even if the card-owner gets their money back; Valve loses the money in the end.

Hey guys, did you know that there are now a few trades on Outpost protesting about the keys' price? Those people protesting are selling keys for 3 ref, and hopefully in the future, 2.66 ref.

I don't see the point in that. Assholes will buy them and resell them for 4.22 or whatever.

They can just avoid selling to those assholes? :v:

Edit: Also sort of funny, we both got trade banned for buying keys from the same guy.

Yeah I saw a nice guy who was selling his keys for 2.66. People like him are totally standing up against key price (even if they are the one who raised it in the first place) and totally not trying to quickly get rid of shady keys before they get trade banned.
No seriously if you see someone selling his stuff purposely low it's usually because he stole these items (here carded key, sometime hacked unusuals).
Precisely. Most people selling that low are trying to quickly dump carded keys.
They're being sensationalist and trying to prey on the average trader's anger.

bynine: For what?
Hashirama Uzumaki Fevazra: You have to add though
Hashirama Uzumaki Fevazra: Hello?

bynine: The trade says page 4 of my BP and some keys.
bynine: What do you want for your Ap-Sap?
Hashirama Uzumaki Fevazra: JKJK I don't have ap-sap XDXDXDXD

But couldn't you just buy the key and unbox with it instantly?
But couldn't you just buy the key and unbox with it instantly?
You're still helping these people profit. The more they see it works, the more they do it (again, like Long), and the more unsuspecting folks' financial lives get pounded to feed demand for more.
Sure you're not responsible for it anymore, but think about it. That's like "Oh, this guy's offering me money that I know he stole from that other guy. If I spend it right away I'm good though."
Knowingly taking stolen goods is still stealing, just over a longer span of time and space. Valve may still lock you if you knowingly buy or sell carded keys, regardless of how fast you use them.
This guy got scammed by someone out of a Burning killers exclusive they had.

Though the guy originally with the hat was told about scammers and still went first like a retard.

Fell for the first trick in the book even after being told about it, damn shame.
I once tried to help a new user sell the Orbiting Fire KE they just unboxed. That was pretty much an assured 8 buds in their pocket, and I was brokering it to be safe.
But no, it's never that easy... They panicked a day later, demanded the hat back, and then immediately traded it for a Vintage Bill's Hat, because they didn't see the decimal in the 1.8 bud price. Wow.

I can't feel sorry for him
I can.
Long just added me on Steam apparently. Wonder what he wants.
I'm guessing he found this thread somehow. He doesn't seem to be saying anything.
[editline]t[/editline]
Silent for quite a while. I just removed him.
Here's an image of the (rather one-sided) chat for later reference, in case he decides he can be clever and photoshop me into saying something I didn't:

It was a passionate moment.
Like in television shows where all the people can do is sit there and cry.
Unfortunately for Long, "/me" was disabled a while ago so he didn't say thing.

Holy fuck. I know that scammer.
He used to be an admin on a server I was a regular on years ago ... a server many of the former regulars and I still reminisce about...
That guy used to be downright legit ... how he has fallen...
Long has 643 keys on him. Who's excited to watch Derrick take $870 from him?

I noticed I was inside his group(Pliq I mean), I think I accepted the invite to join it probably cause I mistook it for Skyrider's TF2L group.
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/freetf2stuff
Anyway, I have no idea how this group has attained so many members, because the idea behind it is complete horse shit. Despite the very generous sounding name he's picked for the group, the basic idea is to gather as many members as he can for the group. This he does by making a requirement to join his silly "giveaway" that you must take the piss of out all your friends and invite them into this circle jerk and changing this group to your primary. His prize is A SINGLE KEY every year.

It doesn't sound poetic to me.

We should donate a "Sarcasm For Dummies" book to him.
Its hard to understand sarcasm which is in text form.
