It seems that Valve is going on a rampage, permanently locking people who touch any form of recently duped items (not only rare vintages), even though they are the ones to grant them in the first place.
Quite unfortunate to see the community go down like this. So many people I know got locked forever.

While there is no [B]definitive[/B] proof from Valve, their banning pattern seems to indicate that everyone remotely related with duped items is getting locked.
Yeah, they most certainly are on a rampage. I've got an alt that's able to trade tomorrow, and a new paypal for it, but I'm wondering if there's even a point. How long until TF2Shop is banned altogether, and all goods I have thus lost? Is it worth the risk to come back, even if I stand to make $100 a day?
They're ruining their economy. It's an extreme anomaly in video games, and one that they're absurdly lucky to have. Derrick is throwing it away.
SteamRep's forums are getting hammered badly right now (3:45 EST).
I get the feeling none of these locks will last more than a week. What Valve is likely doing is trying to stop the circulation of the item(s) in question long enough to delete them once and for all.
If you have stolen items you stole them. If you have carded items you carded them. If you have duped items you duped them.
It's almost as if they don't want you to use the trading system.

I'm permanently banned. Macropower was restricted twice and had items taken from him. Thunderclause, who bought all of his items legitimately (most with buds, so there was no justification for taking them) lost a full rare vintage set. All of Shop and Hexide was taken down for a week because one dick of a seller put a lot of jacked buds on the bots, knowingly. He's walking free, while the rest of us are banned.
Derrick's tossing out bans like candy, and taking items you worked hard to get, because somewhere 10 owners behind you there was foul play.
Someone find a picture of Derrick and photoshop it onto Oprah.
"You get a ban, and you get a ban!" etc.

My unusual has been through two scammers, could I really get a trade ban just for that? It's not duped though.

That's the thing. They don't give a shit about scammers, which actually hurt someone. They only care about hijacking, because it's abused by people like OG to create duplicate items. If pulled off correctly, the guy has 100% profit, and no one should be hurt by it, until Derrick steps in and hurts everyone.

They're banning people who dupe keys and such because it hurts them. Every duped key means a key not bought through the Mann Co. Store for them. Not sure why they'd ban people for glitched items though, as it makes people buy keys so they can purchase them.

It does hurt people. Of course getting your hats back as a dupe is better than having it scammed but it hurts the value.
The rare vintages for example were worth a lot back then. Actual collectors paid a high sum for them and when they wanted to cash out prices dropped hard because of all the duping, even though the ones they were selling were clean.
I really wish you could rate peoples' posts on tf2op (ie a dumb rating or a good rating).

But Valve isn't concerned with people's high-tier items being occasionally mildly devalued when a new duplicate is released into the market. They're fighting tooth and nail against people who use hijacking as essentially currency counterfeiting, producing new buds and such. Long term, it reduces the value of the buds minorly. That hurts no one, though, and that's what they're attacking.
Sure, it's unfair that the big-time item duplicators are taking advantage of the situation, and making a good profit. But do the ends justify the means? Should I have my trading career taken from me, along with dozens of other innocent traders? Should the thousands of dollars in earbuds you just purchased from what seemed to be a legit account be stolen from you by Support?
I say they've gone too far.
