So when attempting to example an idea to eeshton, i think i may have figured out a way to give soldier actual handguns:

it doesn't really make to much sense, but it works with animations he already has.
This made me think about all of those cheap Chinese spring loaded airsoft guns that you have to cock after every shot.
eeshton already called dibs :V
I'll do it for science!(and my amusement)
Hardly what I would call "dibs."
Me and Kibble have been talking about it, and I guess I have called "dibs", but I'm not a nazi, if someone else wants to do it, idk, we could work together, I guess? or just do it for fun

Sir, it would be my honor to share in making these items with you. Also making stuff for fun is all I do!
[SUB]Edited:[/SUB]
I really want to make the hat. I can help you rig the jacket and bag if you want.
in an earlier revision it had the necklace as a medic symbol with a skull on it, emphasizing the idea of an anti-medic soldier, mostly inspired by the player term "Roamer" which is a soldier who hunts down the enemy medic at all costs, which i related to archaeologists and there goal to find all treasures.
wow that's really really grasping for straws you'd be better off to just say "it looks cool so it doesn't matter"
Damn it Hawf! You took the best 1920's Canadian hat for the Sniper...
Now I got to find another one and the ideas are not that easy to stumble on. You and your damn sexy Maritime Man :<
Meh. Pomson skin concept sketch. I have no idea how geometry works, it seems.
I whent ahead and reshaped it so it'll fit the animations, both first and third person, more or less

New idea for scout misc:

Probably just me but this would fit scout.

This happens when I load the Engy's mutton chops
Yeah the all class items from the schema only give the name for one class, so at the moment I just coded it so its guessing the model path by changing the class name, but its not like that for all the items.
For example the only model path to the "Mutton Mann" in the schema is:
models/player/items/all_class/winter_sideburns_sniper.mdl
Then for the other classes its not defined in the schema, hence guessing for engineer it would be:
models/player/items/all_class/winter_sideburns_engineer.mdl
But in fact, checking in the GCF its models/player/items/all_class/winter_sideburns_engy.mdl
So just set the path manually like that.
I am not sure how TF2 goes about finding the other classes model paths, checking the GCf to test if the model path is:
models/player/items/all_class/winter_sideburns_engy.mdl
models/player/items/all_class/winter_sideburns_engineer.mdl
models/player/items/engineer/winter_sideburn.mdl
Would not be practical.
Does anyone know what happened to that "Pot Breaker" legend of zelda link hat for scout?
Why is this tool fun?

WHY PAGEKING?!?!
Rigging a complete heavy shirt. I emulated the rigging and even vertex placement of the underlying heavy topology as best I could based on blender's heavy import's painted weights, without losing the detail and shape of my model, but I fear my rigging may out-suck a dyson. I haven't run it in engine yet because I keep tweaking the topology and rigging to try and yield better results, but based on some of my tests of posing the armature where I see parts protruding through, I'm not sure I'm really accomplishing anything. Maybe I'm posing too extreme, but I question that. Any tips or tricks? Maybe an existing Heavy shirt that animates well and whose rigging I can use as a point of reference?

this look a semiautomatic sniper rifle
it's bolt action
I dream of being somewhat as decent as that, But for now I have to accept that my concepts suck.
Still, Really good design there guys.

The rifle's stock looks too weak, it looks like it could slip off with the recoil imho
The rifle's stock looks too weak, it looks like it could slip off with the recoil imho
tons of guns have those sorts of stocks, steel isn't as weak as you make it sound like, but i suppose we could just have it be a bit thicker

shit, i forgot about that
this is why making coherent sets is so hard, every type of cosmetic has been done already and usually on their own too :c
then again yours is a hoodie with a cap and mine is a windbreaker with cargo pants so i suppose they're still quite different
[editline]10th February 2013[/editline]
perhaps i should go for more of an army jacket look?

I like this better, but I'm not sure about the brown thing across his stomach. Is it a belt?
I like this better, but I'm not sure about the brown thing across his stomach. Is it a belt?
uh yeah, what else would it be?
and as far as I've been able to tell most army jackets were worn with a belt.
plus it helps keep the shapes closer to the base model

I like this one a lot better. Epaulette's would make sense on it too.

I thought it was some sort of strap. The way it's so high up his shirt looks odd too me. Actually, the belt isn't even that high, it's the way the shirt comes down from is that makes it looks high. And I don't know to many people who wear a belt over their jacket.

It looking to hihg mainly makes it sound like you've been blinded by modern fashion where pants and thus belts are worn on the hips rather than around the waist as was normal before, that in mind he's actually wearing the belt relativley far down.
as for wearing belts on top of jackets, it's partially an old thing but mostly an army thing, i'm pretty sure any soldier with a long-ish jacket had to wear a belt in order to have anywhere to strap gear onto, as well as avoiding having it flop around a bunch
if you look at tf2's soldier you'll notice he's wearing a belt over his jacket around his waist

while i haven't seen too many vests with them i'd still say it's not a bad idea, would cisually match the sleeve strap things
not sure why it's getting so many disagrees
epaulettes are so overdone and boring
epaulettes are so overdone and boring
In real life they are rare to find on jackets.
epaulettes are so overdone and boring
i don't see how they're boring, epaulettes alone sure, but as addition to something else?
I will agree that I've seen quite a few that made no sense though
In real life they are rare to find on jackets.
most army and leather jackets seem to have them actually, though i guess they're less common on modern jackets

I like the blu base, but the red seems way too maroon to match the spy's jacket.
