Fuuuck, I've got several items modeled, textured, rigged and compiled but can't preview them due to hlmv.exe being a piece of cunt. Steam support hasn't responded either ;_;
Tried re-installing? Or reseting the configurations, or even re-install TF2?
I need someone who has experience with items with face flexes because I'm just out of ideas at this point I've done the item, i've done the flexes, everything compiled fine, the flexes work in the sdk model viewer but when I try it in itemtest it remains static. What am I doing wrong?
If they work in hlmv you dont have anything to worry about. They wont work on within itemtest because the model isnt tagged for flexes. Its something valve has to do.
Ah, that's good to know. I had the feeling it was the case but I had to be sure, thanks
Well, I'm bored. Anyone want to make something with me?
Well, I'm bored. Anyone want to make something with me?
I could use some help tweaking my Demo item.
Is it wrong or frowned upon for one to model for his own personal enjoyment without any gain or profit?
Is it wrong or frowned upon for one to model for his own personal enjoyment without any gain or profit?
No. In fact it's all I do I never really make anything with intent of profit.
Is it wrong or frowned upon for one to model for his own personal enjoyment without any gain or profit?
Why would it be?
Nice and happy 1,000th post.
Your painting me in such a vicious light makes it sound as though my post wasn't legitimate criticism. It's certainly a lovely item, don't get me wrong at all. Though I personally feel style 1's color scheme clashes with the rest of the Spy's design too much, style two looks like it came straight out of the Mann Co. Store, probably because of how well it resembles something that did. I'm not accusing you of stealing the design or simply modifying the mesh or anything. The Fedora is something of a slate for a lot of Spy hats. Simple, elegant, attractive design. I do sincerely apologize if my criticism offended you in any way, granted it was more playful than constructive, so I understand how it could be taken as such. If it were up to me, I'd change up the stripey-sash thing and make it a little more of its own independent shape rather than it just appearing like it's painted on. I'd also suggest canning the first style entirely, and instead opting for paintability.
That hats literally an extruded fedora.
I always wanted a fedora like that. The Valve one is way too small imo and since some people liked the look of it, why not ?
opting for paintability.
Never.
The Paris Affair, with the 2 styles. Need names for the styles.
Oh man, I'm looking forward to the comment section of this one. Seriously though, you might want to change the colors of style 2. I like the design and I wouldn't mind more fedoras, but the fact that it uses the exact same color scheme as the Fancy Fedora makes it look really uncanny and weird. Also: 1) Noir 2) Pulp
I always wanted a fedora like that. The Valve one is way too small imo and since some people liked the look of it, why not ?
Wait, so you're saying that you did basically just modify the mesh? Or, that you made the hat with the knowledge that comparisons to the Fedora would be made? Because if that's the case, then why are you bothered over my drawing the connection?
Never.
And why not? Because it's popular to hate on paints now, since it sells? You don't seem to have a problem with a big blob of unfitting color appearing, all things considered. So, why not? It seems like it'd be better overall, limiting the amount to those few who do choose to utilize it, rather than it just coming that way out of the package.
Never.
you prob should unless you want valve to force paintability on it in their trademark rapey way
you prob should unless you want valve to force paintability on it in their trademark rapey way
Rapey Way is my favorite type of chocolate bar.

I just made the texture and the artworks and the hat is made by us from A to Z.
And why not? Because it's popular to hate on paints now, since it sells? But i agree that the second color scheme is not good. i'm gonna work about it. Valve will want you to make it paintable as it requires only one vtf for team colors
If you want to use only the colors found on the stock Spy - which is kinda neat - I'd suggest glove-grey for the band and either suit- or tie-teamcolor for the rest. You could give shirt-white band a try as well, it'll probably look weird but it might look neat.
Team Captain.
Salty Dog? It isn't worth the risk. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/900111/saltyseacaptain.jpg http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/1/1e/RED_Salty_Dog.png
I could use some help tweaking my Demo item.
Add me on steam and we can talk about it.

Team Captain.
Team Captain wasnt paintable because it's for multiple classes and uses a different texture for each, I think. Same goes for the private eye. Most uni-class unpaintable hats are marked for paint, but just not paintable or would look incredibly bad with paint. Your hat wouldn't really.
Tbh valve should make paint a requirement for hats
Tbh valve should make paint a requirement for hats
not really, there are some where it just wouldn't work out stainless pot for example wouldn't look good at all
Never.
that's dumb [editline]5th February 2013[/editline]
I'm not against the paintability of an item, but i don't want to see it painted in pink or fluo green.
this has never been a valid argument [editline]5th February 2013[/editline]
Tbh valve should make paint a requirement for hats
I'd just make a black paint mask then
not really, there are some where it just wouldn't work out stainless pot for example wouldn't look good at all
But you could TOTES paint it LIME GREEN or PURPLE, are you really saying you don't want GREEN AND PURPLE POT!!?? You're blowing a great opportunity here (lol blowing xD) No, but I'd prefer every hat were paintable, just because. I mean, lets be honest here. Who even wears the pot that doesn't have an unusual one? I'd bet that even the unaware F2Ps who get them in random drops go "wtf a cooking pot? thats dumb" and then just go back to shooting. It's a shame, it's a neat hat and all. It's just a meh subject over all. I guess it's not even really fair to pick your argument apart based on one example.
