All crates for Soldier medal, or...4 crates for a key. I think that's fair. At least the key thing, I'm just being optimistic on the medal :P

Keys usually go for 8-10 crates.
Ok, well, 8 crates is fine by me. 10 is an odd number for trading anyway...until Valve allows people to have a system that allows multiple items to take up one slot like 5 use dueling minigames.

Better explanation:
Crates are ONLY for people with keys to open them
Otherwise, they're useless, take up space, etc. Since crate droppings don't affect your normal drop rate, it means there are a lot of crates being spawned and not enough $2.50 keys to open them. Hence, with demand dropping (many people have tried 1 or 2 since trading came out and given up; others have opened 50 and given up) crates are really seen as a obstruction to the people who aren't shelling out money or trading their hats for a 1% shot at a shiny hat.
Basically, crates went from = a hat (when it first came out, lol)> reclaimed (before the halloween update)> scrap (these past weeks) > a weapon 1:1. Nowadays, you'll find many people who just want to rid of them. Yesterday I traded an eyelander for 3 crates, and it took me an annoyingly long time to find someone who actually wanted one. There are still people who pedal them for a scrap a piece, but you'd actually have to get pretty lucky to trade off your 55 crates for 55 scraps. So think of their value as a weapon basically.
8 crates= a key is an easy spammable trade demand on a trade server. But seriously, if you traded that 1 key for a refined, crafted to scrap, and said "1 scrap for 2 crates" you'd get able to get 18 crates with your refined from people who simply don't want boxes

I was actually recommended to craft, trade, and get hats. And then try selling it for some good money. But I thought it was better to have people actually do it themselves and get the shit they want.

With that many vintage weapons you should just save it. When it hits a higher price ell it for metal, and then get hats. Sell those hats to some reputable person. People are only willing to pay if they get what they want then and there, not do a ton of trading up
Well, I'm thinking that vintage will probably only be rare in 1 or 2 years.
Plus my cousin was bragging about how he sold his 4 v. hats for 70 pounds. Just trying to make quick cash haha.
