It doesn't, but it makes finding the trades you're looking for easier, as well as accepting or declining offers properly without having to add people on to friends. It provides steamcommunity urls when trades are accepted so you don't have to add people for that, either. It keeps active track of backpacks so items in trades or offers that aren't in the backpack are greyed out.
