Wish someone would continue this. My shit computer needed it.
i'm always here in this project

I want because of the retro look. I love the style of 2004 and earlier.
this need to be updated and very fast.. cuz is very but very outdated..
this need to be updated and very fast.. cuz is very but very outdated..
All progress has stopped. I'd say the project is over.
whyyyy D:
^seriously that is how i feel about this. just kinda sad. the retro look is so cool.
i dunno, maybe i'll learn how to model and skin low poly stuff and try to just finish things myself, if this isnt completely cancelled by then and the people involved are alive. because i am THAT determined* to see it through.
*lazy

I know. I was looking forward to this, even though I don't need it, just to see how it'd turn out.
Im actually surprised no one has taken it over and continued the project.
why did the project die?

to answer all these questions, i will simply state the... following...
1 the project didnt die, just that all progress has halted at the moment, for the most part, i have started working on the checklist, and if anyone on the dropbox was paying attention to it, they would have seen the additions i made to it (not much, just the demoman weapons since it was last updated)
2. the amount of work is staggering, for a full replacement of all the weapons and hats there's 400-500 items that have to be modeled, for me alone this would be impossible, because i do all my modeling in milk-shape 3d, or as i state it, "the most advanced modeling system for the 90's, anything past that and your fucked" either way, no one getting back to me that was in the team is also discouraging
3. with all the drama that happened in the project, quite frankly I'm not surprised that someone didn't continue the project, and to be even more frank, I'm glad, has anyone here ever started a project of this magnitude as their FIRST EVER SOURCE PROJECT? I think not, and anyone that has started a project that included more than 2 people, with some sort of seniority can understand that the creator of the project is typically the leader
4. i would also like to state, on a developers note, that prop replacement is not relevant at this point, weapons and hats only, sparkwire (AKA Twilight Sparkle... last time i saw him on steam) acted on his own and got peoples hopes up, and made the quota of work even bigger, going from 300-400 at the time, to well over 1000, so until the weapons and hats are done, nothing else will be made.
5. i have started college, so if anyone who knows how to model, UV and texture (doesn't matter if you know how to compile, i can take care of that at minimum) it would be greatly appreciated if some people would help out with the project, just send me a PM of what you can do, and i will get back to you.
i dont think you guyses think im serious about getting the project off the ground again :p
so heres something to appease your hunger, just forewarning tho, the textures are horrid

now, weapons and things wont be a frequent thing from me, i will have to update the player models to my new specifications, that i talked over with Tom Tallian AKA Spacey AKA the guy who created the players, vanilla weapons, and the Intel, so in all seriousness i REALLY need help, weapons first, hats later. :p

Isn't that the point? :P
The discolouration on the Original looks pretty bad, as does the phong, needs more fake painted phong like the weapons Tom made
The discolouration on the Original looks pretty bad, as does the phong, needs more fake painted phong like the weapons Tom made
A lot of the textures even in older weapons (ex: F.A.N.) just seem like the originals scaled down and don't match the style of Tallian's textures.
The white from lighting and the darks from shadows need to be IN the textures. No texture should be a solid color.
EDIT: you can pretend you're creating sprites for the SNES or something. It's sort of like that. look at the textures of the vanilla tallian weapons for reference, maybe look at how the Playstation would texture models. I think a good possible reference game would be Metal Gear Solid. details are solid and clear, nothing is "fuzzy".
I am really glad to see this project back up and running though, no joke. Lots of love

Maybe the original textures from the Quake game, would make it better?
Or make the both versions and select one of them.
aright, cool, now that im not the only one replying to this thread :p
here is a present, the new demoman, complete with bodygroups and new hands
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7666502/new_demoman.zip
most of what this public release is for is to see weather or not you guys like these hands over the old flat ones
I think the low poly characters in general look strange with the ability to move their fingers, especially since the texture gets a bit stretched out on the palms. but otherwise the hands look good, and there arent any immediate/glaring problems as far as i can see
i notice the model still has 6 lods, which is strange because the model doesn't seem to change at all from lod 2 to 5.

yeah, those have been here since well, the last time i did a release of the models, its just because it was a suspected problem with the models that caused crashing. so all it does is the bone removal and facial animation removal that the default models have, no model change
hey, i just wanted to let you know that we have a new recruit, his name is SchnookieFace and is a modeler that would like to get some practice, but cant do any models that take extensive time, and saw the pack and decided that this was the perfect opportunity. Heres the test i gave him

and quite frankly, its pretty damn good, just needs a texture and its all set
I whipped this up. It has around 242 verts without me optimizing the clipping it has. Is this around what you had in mind?
(sorry schnookie, for some reason postimage.org doesnt show up in firefox so i re-uploaded it to my photobucket)
as for the player models progress. I have modeled the Engineer and Heavy Hands, got a pot of coffee, and the medic is on the way (they are modeled but no uv's so sorry guys no previews)
I should start doing this again for practice, this time without the bs drama. Maybe in a couple of months i'll have enough free time to help out.
i guess my dreams of playing tf2 while having metal gear solid 1 nostalgia is coming true

this dowload has the PLAYER MODELS ONLY, i didnt feel like putting the textures in there, so your gonna have to get the most recent one from the OP first then download this one second
Holy crap, fingers?!
This is the revolution of the century!
Seriously though that's impressive, I'll have to update my "high fps models + shit" folder.
phong and modelled fingers
this pack isnt as low res as I'd like
phong and modelled fingers

but but, its only an extra 200 tri's and i used the original geometry and the average is still 800 tri's which is 1/20th of the original and just to be honest, im pretty sure if valve made the models they would have modeled and animated the fingers to be inter-meshed so that one works with the other
I mean, look at HL1 animations anyone that had fingers tylically had 1-2 finger joints and had the geometry to match, so im only doing what would have been done then, and making the geometry work with the animations, and um, sorry to say but im going to be adding a bit more so the elbows dont clip and arent ridicilously sharp DONT HIT ME!!!!! >.<
Yeah but the style/polycount isn't meant to match HL1, it's meant to match a NDS game
