If I play the Mac version, get the earbuds, then switch back to PC and never touch the Mac again, I can use the earbuds on my PC, right?
Yeah we're all doing it mark
ALL of us. Valve would be dick if we'd have to refresh them every so often They wouldn't do it.
PC users need to stop being babies about free content.
What about that thread where you bitched about the Eyelander, it's free content. :irony:
did anyone tried install osx on vmware and login?
I tried, but couldn't get internet working on VMWare, so I did 'sudo rm -rf /' instead.
Somebody said the exact same thing on mic when I was playing yesterday. Word for word :geno:
http://www.teamfortress.com/macupdate/earbuds/
For the first time, Mac users can experience the head-covering excitement by getting online this weekend and playing America's #1 war-themed hat simulator for themselves. Anyone logging into the game from a Mac will receive a limited edition set of in-game earbuds to wear on any class. PC users won't technically receive anything by logging in from a PC, unless you like shooting at Mac users--in which case, consider this earbud promotion a new "shirts vs. skins"-style game mode.

If this is true then why not craft your 20 hats
Why is he even playing if he thinks it's dead?
You know what, look on the bright side guys. You know about the interface update? They made that update specifically for the challenged Mac users who had never played a game before. They made all those tutorials and guides specifically to insult Mac users in a way. We didn't have that before. But we do now that we have Mac users. >_>
Old interface wasn't too good, it was the generic one you saw with every source game. Now TF2's menu looks, to me, like one for an actual game and not a HL2 mod. It's also VERY friendly to new players, too. Both Mac and PC alike
I don't like the new menu. The old one was practical and simple. This one is a bit much.
I give one :colbert: And a agree with OP on the domination grab, it's the easiest solution.
That works?
Wait... You can actually get them by dominating a person wearing them? I thought VALVe was only reffering to the imminent war between Mac and Pc users.
I think you're all forgetting something... We PC users have hats. Most Mac users don't have any hats, or at least very few. Seriously, the earbuds aren't prestigious. All they say is "I play on the Mac. I had to wait like forever to play this game". And you can barely notice them. Then again, they could have given Mac users new shoelaces and people would want them.

That's why you see Mac players with medals.
Lighten up, man. This isn't Counter-Strike or Modern Warfare. The game is supposed to be very lighthearted fun. The style was brightly-colored, over the top, never supposed to be serious. Valve is having a blast making these updates and people are having a blast playing it. It's all about fun, and fun is what you make fun. [/:rant:]
I don't care all that much or else I wouldn't be playing the game anymore. Thankfully mods enhance the experience.
Fun fact, the earbuds are coded to stay white permanently, so if a player is in the darkness he will resemble an iPod commercial.
Just noticed in-game when I got it, awesum.(btw i hate some people when they see me and they go macfag when I'm a pc user.)
I don't really see the hubbub about the earbuds. They're barely noticeable and they're for a certain group of people. It sort of destroys the purpose if you're mainly a PC gamer and you get them because of some freaky desire to have everything.
Make the Engineer update PC only ;D Trololololololololo
Got my earbuds :3, my hardware isn't compatible with os-x virtualisation but a friends was!
Fun fact, the earbuds are coded to stay white permanently, so if a player is in the darkness he will resemble an iPod commercial.
It's more likely that, just like (pretty much) every other cosmetic item, it has an incorrect lighting origin (that's why you see fully lit up hats while the players are shadowed)
Macs get the same hats as PC players. PC players can use their hats if they play on a Mac. That's why you see Mac players with medals.
I know that Mac players can get hats, I'm just saying that most won't have any yet since they just started playing.

The thing that bugs me the most about the earphones, is how out of place they look I know that there's future technology in the game (sentries, teleporters, invisability etc.) but at least they gave them an industrial look to them to make them fit in better but they didn't even try with the earphones, I think it would be more fitting to give them apples (obviouslyressembaling Apple's logo) instead to balance on their heads
Got my earbuds :3, my hardware isn't compatible with os-x virtualisation but a friends was!
So you just installed os-x virtualisation and it worked ? Or did you install the OS itself ?
It's more likely that, just like (pretty much) every other cosmetic item, it has an incorrect lighting origin (that's why you see fully lit up hats while the players are shadowed)
Nope, check the vmt, it has self-illuminaion.
I know that Mac players can get hats, I'm just saying that most won't have any yet since they just started playing.
And as I said, Mac players can move all of their stuff over from their PC accounts. I can't imagine an update for a 3-year-old game is going to do a whole lot of sales. Maybe some, but not enough to cause a massive flood of newbies.

There is no problem, ergo there is no solution Or if you insist that there is a problem, it's that whining bitchy PC gamers can't stand the fact that people who use Macs get a completely useless aesthetic item. Look at it this way, people: They already have to suffer by owning and using Macs, at least this makes their computer's sad existence a little less horrible to them
I'm not as worried about the earbuds as much as I am about the virtual bigotry that will ensue. I've already joined a number of servers and heard/read "this sucks because of the mac update." And of course my name automatically labels me a mac user, when in fact I've had the game since February of 2008 for the PC and since '07 for the PS3 version.
