Advanced Mann-Conomy: How to idle with multiple accounts

Tested it for about two hours, didn't find anything on any of the accounts I used. I followed all of the directions and the textmode idle itself worked properly. I started each account normally and did not receive a single item. Did I do something wrong?

Unlucky? Drop cap? Did it say X connected?
Also I like it how people PM me about my avatar.
I can't hit the drop cap on accounts I just created. :geno:
It DID say (username) connected the whole time, yes.
So I guess I'm just extremely unlucky. Oh well, I'll leave it on the rest of the day regardless.
A very useful tutorial but its much more complicated (to me anyway but thats because I am horrible with things like this) than my method of idling on my main the first two days, idling on my alt the next two days then transferring them using two computers. But this is very helpful to those with only 1 account.
I got my second steam account running, but i cant play TF2, i get that error where it says i cant run the same instance twice, since im already running TF2 on my main account.
Isn't this considered vac bannable? (Out of my own curiosity)
I got my second steam account running, but i cant play TF2, i get that error where it says i cant run the same instance twice, since im already running TF2 on my main account.
Try making a copy of Steam with TF2 files and run from the copy. Looks like some people have problems with that so I'm adding it to the FAQ.

No.

Danke.

Why would it be? We're running TF2, not through an external program. Someone should ask Robin just in case, I doubt it is vac bannable.

I dont see how you can get vac banned for idling, in a non-vac secured server, on two seperate accounts.
I've started finding items now, so I guess I WAS just really unlucky for the moment. Works very well now, thanks OP!
I can't even use Sandboxie.
I get some error about not being able to use it from hither thither something or other.

Who's to say? People have gotten VAC banned for some ridiculous shit outside the boundaries of cheating. Valve has said they have a system that's making sure people don't evade server bans, I wonder what else it can do (unless it's a sheer bluff; totally plausible).
Maybe I should write an email to Gabe. :jewish:

you can't get server banned (or ANYTHING banned) if the server you are running is LITERALLY the same as a single player game of half life
It didn't occur to me why I'd need a large amount of HDD space, until I saw the "Copy Steam Folder" step, and didso, realizing my steam folder is well over 50 GBs.
Time for clocks?

Only copy over the TF2 GCFs, nothing else is needed

Hold my hand through the process please? :3
Could I just do this but with my other 2 computers in the house. Both of which I can idle on.
[editline]29th June 2011[/editline]
Would it still work or would Steam block the others if it came from the same IP.
I think I'm sounding stupid.

It will work. My brother and I both use Steam at the same time on different accounts/computers.

Enjoy your waste of time.

I don't get it and no it doesn't. Otherwhise they would only allow 1 Steam instance per household which would be pretty stupid.
It'd be really cool to have this if i had another machine or a large hard drive.
By the way, anyway i can idle and not waste bandwidth (idling locally or whatever, not connecting to exterior idle servers.)
And what's the best way to cripple the shit out of TF2 so it consumes the least RAM as possible?
hey, i got everything setup for 1 extra account, but when i try to get to an idle server, the list won't show up as if there was no internet access, but i have access to the sandboxie steam and all. may i get a hand? dunno what else to add. i'll give any other info if it helps me finish the setup quicker.

I heard that adjusting your clock to make items that become tradable in a few days to be tradable is a Vac Bannable offense.
This sounds pretty risky if you ask me.
I copied Steam folder and whatnot so I can run multiple things, but everytime I try to run it on another sandbox, it just says "Message: SBIE2102 File is too large to copy into sandbox." Help? I maxed the File Migration on all of my profiles but it didn't seem to matter.
Nevermind, I just had to change the full access to point to the new Steam folder. Derp.
i still havn't gotten a response on how you idle, through like offline practice or something? or are you actually supposed to be able to connect to an idle server?

It doesn't work anyways. Already tried it with some keys.
... or we can just play the game? Just saying
Yeah I've tried both and finding them as you play is more fun than idling until you reach your drop cap and don't get anything while playing the game
Finally got my four alts all working correctly. Thanks for the guide, this saves me so much time. And if my friend Ontarget is reading this, thanks for your help as well.
Besides the obvious 5x the items, how useful is having multiple accounts for the sole purpose of getting items? Let's say you get 10 items per account, totaling 50 items. That's 2 refined and 2 reclaimed each week, and if you're lucky, a hat. Is it worth $25 to get about 3 refined a week for life?

Uh, yeah, because that's circumventing the system. Using this method does literally nothing to break Valve's terms of use, nor does it circumvent anything because you log onto steam and log into the game just like if you were idling on one account alone.

If you're "into" trading, or if there's an item you really really want and don't want to wait for, then yeah, it's worth the fiver it takes for whichever accounts you use.
