Advanced Mann-Conomy: How to idle with multiple accounts
2,129 replies, posted
Lately I'm not getting any items at all when I idle. At first I thought it was just a fluke, but it has been ongoing for several weeks now. What could be going on?
Zarx, check your steam and sandboxie steps once again...
I'm getting 9-11 each week, no problems here.
From a personal pov, I'm using a dedicated server for all my idle clients to connect, a dedicated server with exact forceteam and respawn rules.

Would you be so kind to share your server settings / tutorial how to set up a dedicated server?
Well, I've got everything set up as in the first post, except in my tf2 batch I have the "+sv_lan 1" command (i always thought this is necessary for idling?)
I have also tried idling manually and its not getting me any items either. It was all good until about a month ago, and I just suddenly stopped getting items.
Rakkie, it's easy to post a link to a tf2 dedicated server tutorial, or just google for it...
But I have some custom plugins that require sourcemod and some extra tweaks, so providing my server.cfg would be useless.
I don't want to act like a selfish piglet, but you can figure creating a default tf2 dedicated server... It's not that hard.
@Zarx: I never use +sv_lan 1 in my bat text... That's the root of your "no item" problem... Me thinks!
P.S. I can help you out with one thing though. These advices are solid:
- get/buy vmware workstation;
- create a 30-50gb image for it and install win7 lite;
- partition the vmware image in two;
- leave C:\ completely clean;
- follow the tutorial and install Sandboxie in D:\;
- get yourself 20 or more TF2 premium accs;
- hoard that damn metal;
+ more than 4gb in ram...
Attempting a go at the better method, but the whole command prompt stuff is a confusion to me, can anyone help me out?

Hunter, here's a quick example:
Before:

After:

So, all my idle accounts are separated in folders, more exactly:
D:\Idler\22 <- 22nd idle client folder that includes the steam files
D:\Steamapps <- the steamapps folder, common for all client steam installs
Before using the command, make sure you only copy fresh steam install files, and make sure there's no steamapps folder inside, just like in the before photo, on the right.
After using the command, a shortcut to steamapps is created via mklink, as in the after pic, right side.
You have to get used to this command: you'll use it everytime you create a new idle client.
In the final steps to getting sandboxie+idling done, this is really important. Also, mklink won't work on WinXP, so tough luck...
This most recent update broke my sandbox setup. Whats the best way to get it going again?
(says verifying accounts then can't run because it's missing some files).
My guess to fix it is run TF2 accounts each from the normal Steam folder (stock setup) and update the Steamapps folder?
Alright back from moving. I don't have a fiber optic cable to my house so I have to live off of wireless internet.
Here is a re-written version of the script. Please report any bugs anything I haven't been able to hook up or implement will be in the next update.

Enjoy folks.

Pretty sure that is against the Steam TOS. But then again this is too.

From what I know this was in a update near May. It is something to do with HLDS and events. But I can't be 100% sure since I only googled it for 10 minutes or so.

That is normal. You don't have your server registered (and at the moment, registration isn't required for drops).

It pretty much launches a listen server for each account. Same as my old script but it's in a program form. It also has a fair bit more support on it.
I'm adding in the intervals and loading bar now. Hopefully I will have a release out before all my stuff arrives.

Why would anyone buy an account.. just make a new account and buy a key or something. Get a key and more backpack space and premium for half the price.
All this sandboxing is really confusing me. I can't idle all my accounts at one time anymore. Do I have to create a new sandbox everytime I idle?
It starts up Steam and then when I run Tf2 it just hangs at the running Tf2 window.
Last week was the first time I did this and it worked.

Steam is trying to sync the files. Since there was an update and all of your TF2's tried to update it there is multiple rights trying to access. Just cut and paste all the .gfc's from the steamapps and run one of the idle steams. Re-paste them afterwards.

It sounds a lot better than updating each account one at a time.

I've been doing it since I found out it fixed it. So I guess it works :P
Because the minimum steam funds(the only way to buy tf2 items) is 5€ and I'm selling them for 4.
Yes, and essentially you are asking me to pay $5.20 for a $5 account :P
Also how do I know you just won't call hacks and get the account back?

Doesn't your program have a update feature?
Anyone can upgrade a account to premium AND get 2 keys for just 5€ in the Mann Co. Store.
in europe its € and i payed €.
How does this have anything to do with idling multiple accounts? Additionally, whenever you buy ANY game via Steam (or most any digital distribution service) the account/game becomes yours for the rest of your life. You can never sell it, you can never trade it. You are basically buying a lifetime lease UNLESS Valve decides to get rid of you and the delete all your shit. You don't own anything.
Either way, you should consider making a special thread about getting rid of your account(s) rather than trying to sell them in a how to idle multiple accounts thread.
My 2 cents worth.

Actually according to the Steam TOS they are only giving you access. You actually don't own anything you buy.
Loading bars are finished. Timing will need to be fixed though. Expect something tomorrow :s
Doesn't your program have a update feature?
I do, I'm not sure if it is in that version though. The current system links to my blog where I will post client updates and there is an option to update TF2 via .bat.
If anybody doesn't like bat's I am sorry. But I'm not sure yet how to code in .ini's and whatnot :P
Hey it's 3207 now.

Got it working, took some time to set up, but now i'm idling with 8 accounts, thanks DeltaEcho!
