hey i save it as idle.cfg and put it into the cfg folder and thats it? and i run the batch idle files? or do i run tf2 (from steam) and join/create a server and then idle? also i pretty much click on each idle batch so it runs every team fortress 2 seperately and not in 1 server basically i create up to 13 itemtest map servers should i be creating 1 server and making other idles join that 1 server?
Depends on which you are more experienced to do. I just create the listen servers aka local servers for each account. But you can create 1 server for everyone to connect to. And yes just copy that idle.cfg into each of the cfg folders.
ok thanks i will try the idle.cfg and test it out real fast
ok thanks i will try the idle.cfg and test it out real fast
Also make sure you are using a good parameters list. I myself use this one.
-applaunch 440 -dxlevel 81 -32bit -textmode +exec idle.cfg -single_core -nojoy -low -nosound -sw -width 640 -height 480 -noshader -nopix -novid -nopreload -replay_enable 0 +sv_password 6789 -sw +map itemtest +maxplayers 2
This is my idle.bat I have in each account's folder.
start /low C:\"Program Files"\Sandboxie\Start.exe /box:alfietest Steam.exe -applaunch 440 +sv_cheats 1 -textmode -novid -nosound -noipx -useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -nojoy -nopreload +map itemtest +sv_lan 1 +exec idle
Rather than having the bat file that launches all the accounts initiate sandboxie I have each individual idle.bat launch sandboxie. This way you just launch all the bats within a bat file and it's much simpler. Also you need to add +exec idle to run the cfg.
.... But you can create 1 server for everyone to connect to. .....
There needs to be an easy guide here for that too I think. Looked around the web and there seems to be almost too much info there. So much that some of the info conflicts with others are it gets kinda confusing.... for me at least. I have gone back to launching the game individually into seperate sandboxes. Takes me awhle to load them all and I can only get up to 7 on my most powerful gaming pc before I notice some lag issues with my cpu. This way I can reconnect to servers when I get disconnected and I can trade.
same here it takes a dam long while for me even with a very decent gaming pc took me almost 1 full hour just to load 10-13 accounts anyone else? or is it just me? i have nothing else running not even anti virus and still takes so long because you have to load the batches 1 at a time and if you try to do it at once, it says game is unavaliable at this moment until one of the idle loads completely into the cmd
My TF2 uses 700MB in memory. How are you able to make it use less then 100MB?
This is what i'm using to start my own server; no need to download and setup the dedicated server...
start /low C:\"Program Files"\Sandboxie\Start.exe /box:01Silas "C:/Idler/01/Steam/Steam.exe" -applaunch 440 -32bit -dxlevel 80 -textmode +exec idle2.cfg -single_core -low -nosound -sw -width 640 -height 480 -noshader -nopix -novid -nopreload -heapsize 131072
and the accompanying idle2.cfg for the server to stop your idles from being kicked
sv_password 1234 map itemtest maxplayers 5 mp_timelimit 0 mp_idledealmethod 0 mp_respawnwavetime 0 sv_pure_kick_clients 0 mp_winlimit 0
and then this for the connecting clients...
start /low C:\"Program Files"\Sandboxie\Start.exe /box:02Zeph "C:/Idler/02/Steam/Steam.exe" -applaunch 440 -32bit -dxlevel 80 -textmode -single_core -low -nosound -sw -width 640 -height 480 -noshader -nopix -novid -nopreload -replay_enable 0 +connect 192.168.1.11:27015 +password 1234 -heapsize 131072
I've found this setup much better on performance with the idle account server using about 12-14MB and the clients under 10. Obviously you'll need to change the IPs/boxnames etc.
How do I idle in itemtest manually?
How do I idle in itemtest manually?
launch steam > launch tf2 > open console > map itemtest
I'm using the dedicated server that's installed via hlupdatetool.exe You can find several tutorials on how to create a tf2 ds. I personally used this tuto: http://forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/5439 Hope it helps.
launch steam > launch tf2 > open console > map itemtest
But it's in textmode.
I don't think I'm getting any drops:http://urli.st/qxJw
Although connecting to a server is less resources it is still better to create a listen server so that there is no chance you can lose connection to steam. Look around in the thread a little. Pretty sure there is some links to auto-crafting programs. Also CryCry. Idle overnight. Pretty sure most people who do idle do it and it also doesn't stop you from your everyday tasks. This is the idle.cfg that I am using right now. Still needs tweaking. It is essentially a edited version of Chris' FPS config. Pretty sure it uses less resources. I haven't been able to check since I haven't idled in a while.
echo Chris' maxframes config, designed to get you a large performance boost. echo Edited by DeltaEcho. I take no responsibility, ownship or credits for this config. I am keeping the edit the .bat system since some people do want to connect to servers and some don't. Until then happy idling. -Delta
I had around 400mb memory utilization and tried using your script to reduce it. Using this new idle.cfg my memory utilization went up to 600-700mb
Can someone share config file that redues memory usage to minimum. Now I have 700MB usage.
But it's in textmode.
launch steam > open steam library > right click tf2 > properties > set launch options > -textmode +map itemtest
Hum, I'm having a lot of issues with memory. Using this:
-applaunch 440 -textmode -dxlevel 80 -replay_enable 0 -noshader -novid -nosound -noipx -nojoy -nopreload -sw -width 640 -height 480 +connect
I'm getting 400-500mb usage for each of the hl.exe process. Seems quite high? Would using a custom cfg help?

Seems when I go to itemtest I don't get any items though.. or it already went in my backpack. I got a Coup De Tat and a Schudenfrade recently then.
How can you make all your idle accounts connect to one LAN server?
could anybody make a "step by step" on making this script with a youtube video?? i dont understand it & id apreciate it :/
bump.
My TF2 uses 700MB in memory. How are you able to make it use less then 100MB?
use the launch parameters twigsby posted.
I'm using them. No luck. Still 700MB. Sometimes drops to 500MB
try without heapsize and run them all at the same time
Still the same. Server is 700MB and clients are about 600MB
Anyone has a clue what those messages in the end actually mean?
Hooch180, are you sure you're reading the memory usage correctly? Open Task Manager and click "View", then "Select Columns" and tick the "Working Set" and "Commit Size" click OK and now look at your hl2.exe usage. The values under the Working Set (actual used memory) collumn are the values that'll be of the most relevant to you. You can also disregard all of that and type Resource Monitor (Win 7) into your Start menus Search field and have a much better overview of how your memory (cpu, network, and disc) is being used by any given process. :eng101: If after all that extra checking you find your hl2.exe processes are all using over 500mb each then I can only assume the problem is elsewhere...
Anyone has a clue what those messages in the end actually mean?
Could it be because you are not running a registered server?
i got the same problem as Hooch180 but it subsides into the lower 400kish after maaaaaaaaaaany minutes later and i mean around 30-1 hour but still never fully down to 100-200k area so it still takes a huge toll on the pc and i do it with around 10-13 accounts but never past 13 or else i genuinely think the pc might blow up or get bsod its a decent pc with phenom x4 quad, 460gtx, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd etc
If you're creating a server to idle, make sure it's password protected, else other people will join to idle and it'll increase memory usage.
In a bit of a pickle and hoping someone can give me some insight. First off, I let my account idle for about 5 hours with no drops, and I'm pretty sure it's because there is no vac on the server I connect to. Every picture I've looked at on here so far has it on, but for some reason mine is off, here is a picture. If that one can be figured it, that would be amazing. But wait, there's more. I copied my steamapps folder with this command
mklink /D steamapps <main steamapps path>
and when I double click, it takes me to my real steamapps folder, but when I try to load it using sandboxie, I get this. When I load it from my one idle account that I didn't delete the steam apps folder from though, it loads just fine. So help on picture one is the biggest issue, I can live with having multiply steam app folders though. Any help please. Edit: Also with the second thing, where it says it can not connect to steam, I have the rights listed as the folder, so I don't think that is it, here is a picture though. Edit 2: OK, this seems kinda weird, but I can get VAC secure mode on, if I don't use sandboxie, and just do it from my main account. Yep, tried it again and it's only when I use sandboxie that it comes up with vac disabled.
