• Advanced Mann-Conomy: How to idle with multiple accounts

Bumped up from 16GB of RAM to 20GB using a pair of 2GB sticks I had laying around. Apparently this hasn't made much of a difference. The accounts just eat up more memory. Windows doesn't look like it's going to shit itself anymore, but it still won't let me run more than 22 accounts at a time without spazzing out. I just don't understand... There's still at least 3 GB to spare but Windows won't use it. It's barely using CPU, barely using GPU, and disk and network I/O are minimal. What's TF2 doing with all that memory? There has to be a way to trim it down.
When you choose the same email address you have already used it asks if you want to find your old account or if you want to create a new one, and just select to create a new one. And yea, my paymnent methods always cap at 2 accounts, then I get an error, do u have the option for generating CC numbers from your account maybe? How do you have 22 accounts running? I run out of UDP ports at 16, anything your doing that you can think of as to why you'd have more ports to access?
http://www.xs.to/u/hotradish/albums/1693/photo/8683 I used the -nohltv flag which allowed me to run more than 15 accounts, though, after the 16th account, I start getting: "WARNING: UDP_OpenSocket: unable to bind socket" and the client port is -1 Doesn't seem to be that big a deal since I still get drops, so I just leave it be.
Then someone explain to me why week after week, there are no drops on some accounts..
You can try to use this software: http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem To decrease the memory load. The free/pro version only has a few feature differences, but the software is free to use with no limitation. See if it makes a difference for you. If I am not mistaken, the software has been auto set to clean the memory every 15min.
Damn, thought this would work. Well, it does reduce working set memory from 450MB to about 19MB each. However, the commit size still stays at 450MB, some even 480MB, each. It appears that Windows reserves some memory for a program and even if it's cleared it's still reserved. I've tried doubling the size of the page file and disabling the page file all together, but it doesn't make a difference. Also, now whenever I try to run a 23rd account TF2 says: "Couldn't load Windows font: Tahoma"...wtf? I'm gonna try one more thing. If this doesn't work then I could get another set of 16GB, or just stick with 20 accounts...still want to see how far I can push it though.

Question(s) though, that I'd love answers for... How long does it take you to start all these accounts? SSD necessary to start them in a reasonable amount of time? Also, are you experiencing much for slow downs when you've still got free RAM? I'm on 8 gigs atm, and sadly I've been getting minor lag issues when I run this, Minecraft, and a Minecraft server at the same time...on the verge of buying another 8 gigs of RAM and perhaps an SSD, but I'd love confirmation that it'll be worth the money and fix the laggy-ness I get. CPU is no issue really, just RAM holding me back. I've got Memcleaner going, but I feel like its benefits are more placebo than anything, as like you said, it isn't doing anything with the committed memory. Anyways, thanks in advance man for any answers you can provide!
It takes about 10 seconds for Steam to load up and login and then 10 seconds for TF2 to load up and connect. I have a batch file that looks similar to the following:
"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:Steam01 "E:\idle01\Steam.exe" -silent -login ACCOUNTNAME ACCOUNTPW -applaunch 440 -textmode -nosound -noipx -novid -nopreload -nojoy -nohltv -low -sw -maxplayers 2 +sv_lan 1 +map "itemtest"
I just repeat that several times. If you have Vista or 7 you can use the TIMEOUT command to put a delay between each line. This helps if it's bogging down the CPU all at once. I've dedicated a OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD to TF2 idling and gave Sandboxie full access permissions to the root of the drive. I can get up to about 85% of my usable RAM, which is 17GB which leaves 3 GB to spare, but anymore then that and Windows freaks out. I do lag a little but even with this many instances of TF2 and Steam it barely uses my CPU or GPU. If I try to run a 23rd instance my system becomes very unstable, and usually the 23rd TF2 will throw an error or just crash. My last attempt was to try a memory cleaner that would force memory into the pagefile, but it didn't help at all. I think that either Windows or TF2 is still reserving space in memory that it thinks it will need and won't let go of it. Anyways, probably gonna get the extra 16GBs just to see how many I can run.
I guess it's one of those kinda "if you have to ask, you'll never know" things, but -- what do you guys actually DO with all of the crap you get as random drops? Hats wear or trade, sure, other items keep or smelt to metal... but then what do you do after that? Not that these questions have stopped me, but I am only a lowly pleb with my main and one idling account.
I smelt my metal, save it up for keys, and stockpile some of those. When you get 100+ items a week, it adds up pretty fast. Hats I sell or wear, based on what it is, and save up for keys. 21 keys at the moment, if the prices didn't keep rising I could get a set of earbuds.
once you have like 20+ accounts you can start selling metal and make a little profit.
Sell it where? I've heard (not sure if true) unusuals can sell for like ~$3k on ebay or the like, internet sites like that. I'm not sure you could sell metal in the same way though, you'd need a fuck of a lot of it.
It's quite annoying. Morons like you are why the prices are so high, you have a number of items which simply cannot be achieved through normal play.
Key prices have not risen in a long time because there is never a lack of keys. Unless the Mann Co store stops selling keys then it will say at 2.33/2.66
key prices usually go up together with promos
Price of keys in metal has stayed about the same, price of keys in USD has dropped a bunch, price of buds have risen a bunch.
Can someone post this image again please? http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/8828/unled2kp.jpg Thanks.
Try removing the relevant platform_<language>.txt in Steam/resources/. The # sign means it's a placeholder for a translation string from the language files.
All of my files like that say "overlay_LANGUAGE.txt". The quotes are just to show the beginning and end of the file name and are not actually a part of the txt. file. Are you saying to delete the language files? I'm confused as to what you mean.

That might be why you're getting that problem. I'd try removing everything but Steam.exe and steamapps, which makes Steam redownload itself, hopefully including the correct language files.

I had to scroll down to see all these txt files.

Is there anything else I can use to make this smaller? It's still eating roughly 500 MB. I hear of people having it under 200, or even 50. I'd love to have that.

All the other clients can be configured to connect to the one running as server, and then they won't use anywhere near as much RAM because they won't need to load all the server shit.
if i host a listen server with each account, they only take like 150MB each. if i connect them all to a server they're 100MB each
Up for sharing what tricks you're using? Seems I'm one of the many stuck at ~500mb/client, and tried basically all of the custom launch parameters. Gets a bit frustrating spending so much time then seeing other people with literally 1/5th of your RAM usage. :P

The error I'm getting is "Could not connect to Steam Network". (every time I try to login on them) Anyone know what the problem is? ***EDIT*** Ok, I figured that out, my symlinks were just messed up. But now I find out that all my accounts were suspendned by steam... Anything I can do now?

And you can try talking to steam support...but chances are they wouldn't go any further than restoring your main account.
Ok, I figured that out, my symlinks were just messed up. But now I find out that all my accounts were suspendned by steam... Anything I can do now?
Well, shit. Might be an idea to post how many accounts you had, whether they were all from the same email, info like that. If there's a chance that people in this thread with on the scale of 10 or whatever accounts like errorproxy has could get their accounts suspended it'd be an idea to let us know.
i got the error of: "could not connect to steam network" and "you dont have enough disk space" in some accounts (10 of 20 *-*). i checked the resource acces and its the same of the funcionally accounts. c4: i need some help

Anyway, I only had 8, and only 4 of them were premium, so I guess it's not that bad.

Guess it was a good move after all. You didn't mention though...when did you make the accounts? During the whole gift-pile thing? If so, then I suspect that's the reason more-so than the shared email.
bump
Have you tried just deleting most Steam files and letting them redownload? Or just straight uninstalling/reinstalling Steam? That would be my approach to the problem, and it's already been recommended above as well.

Delta_Echo Where are you.. I forgot what to do when I start up without updating first.. Delete Steam blob and update one of the accounts?.. I did, but that didn't work.
