Advanced Mann-Conomy: How to idle with multiple accounts
2,129 replies, posted
Well my Steam keeps validating TF2 files over and over again, redownloading them every time i try to open TF2, and I have to close the validate process because it become stuck on 100%. Does anyone have a clue of what's going on? Seems like the last steam updates messed up something.
Well i just got the blob error.
Sorry for the dumb question, but what are the "essential" files for the steamapps folder?
They were quoted like 14 posts above your one.
Plus there is a more efficient method in the OP.
What happens when that shows up, it doesn't log in?
Also, Steam is being a dick. I got 3 of my alt accounts up to premium, but then when I tried the other 2 I had, it wouldn't let me add steam funds. I contacted Steam help to try to figure out why I couldn't add funds, and they said they couldn't help me because I should be making the purchases on my main steam account. Specifically, that they couldn't remove limitations (I'm wondering whether they put the limitation there or not).
[editline]11th August 2011[/editline]
I didn't tell them what I was doing, just that Steam wouldn't let me add funds from either credit card I tried, and not on other accounts I tried, nor from my laptop.
I have some sort of a feeling that they blocked any of the accounts I made from adding funds or something. Perhaps based on my IP, so maybe I can go elsewhere and make the account/upgrade it.
It takes a while, I know that after creating an alt Steam doesn't want to eat any money until a few days after creation.
So I've unchecked drop rights from administrators and power user groups, and added the Steam directory to full access in Sandboxie.
But when I try to login to Steam, I get this error message in Sandboxie:
SBIE2327 Error in COM server: [31 / 258]
This happens about 30 seconds after I click the LOGIN button.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Anyway. Thanks for the guide.
Did you also add full access?
Plus are you sure you linked the steamapps folder correctly? Taking a shortcut and not making it in the CMD prompt menu gives a shortcut that won't work.
Um... The item cap is about 8-9 items.
[editline]13th August 2011[/editline]
Just one question. I have to Steam accounts, none of them are premium. Can I become premium on both accounts [with one credit card, by adding Steam funds to both of them] and then trading items between them?
Negative, I have had the pleasure of getting 7 items in one haul, 13 items in another haul.
And yes, you can do that. Might have a little delay though if the accounts are new.
Setting up my PC for advanced idling. I just have one question.
start /low H:\"STEAMFOLDER"\Steam.exe -login ACCOUNT YOURPASSWORD -applaunch 440 -textmode -novid -nosound -noipx -nojoy -nopreload -sw -width 640 -height 480 +map itemtest
Should there be quotation marks around itemtest? Other places I look at about startup things like that say that if you're starting up and want to be in a map, the map is in quotations.
I got everything working, anyway.
Does the textmode screen say when there are drops, or do I only find out about them when I do the normal tf2 login?
An extra tip, add +sv_password xxx to prevent people joining your server.

Please ask him what he did, It keeps validating files here after the last Steam updates, I have the steamapps folder shared and I guess it's related.

I had to totally redownload tf2.
Thanks for this beautiful tutorial

If I get what you mean; Yes. I gave the Steam directory to full access.
I didn't create any batch files etc. but simply tried to start Steam via sandboxie to see if it was working correctly.
So. I started Steam normally and logged in to my main account today, as usual, and though that it went alot faster than it usually does. So I gave sandboxie a try, logged in to my alt account and it worked!
I believe my error had something to do with Steam taking too long to respond. Though it does sound kinda weird.
Anyway. Thanks for the help!
If your Team Fortress 2 refuses to start up for an alt but works for another alt/your main, here is the solution.
For the alt account that refuses to boot Team Fortress 2 you need to delete the alt's entire folder that is located in your steamapps folder. It will then fix itself. I had this problem for a few days and things like creating a new sandbox and redirecting the access routes did nothing to help.
Just throwing in my troubleshooting expertise :)
Hello,
I am running a SSD with Windows and on a second drive I have steam installed with all my games. I installed sandboxie and my alt steam account to my second drive and I keep getting the error that I do not have enough space. My SSD is only 40 GB. And for some reason it keeps putting sandboxie info that takes up space on my SSD, not on my second drive. I did give Sandboxie full file access and everything. So how do I stop sandboxie from putting stuff on my SSD and make it default to my second drive?
Thanks,
JoeFabooch
Edit:
When I log into my alt acct with Sandboxie it will put stuff into my SSD and it will fill up and have no space left. But when I log into my alt acct w/o Sandboxie the game will play fine and not put stuff into my SSD.

Thank you so much! Worked like a charm
Thanks for the guide only problem I'm having is sandboxie doesn't like cmd.exe, It'll log into steam fine and start Tf2 but no window pops up when using the bat.
but it Works fine when I run it without sandboxie.
Nice guide. But there is something I want to know before I actually do this.
Like if they decided that these alts are just farmers and decided to punish. From what I read it seems like they're gonna wipe the backpack. Will that happend to my main accounts backpack to?
I mean if I'm gonna do this they will like all share the same IP and purchase card.
It used to work great when sandboxing my alt and logging in after on my main.
Now I just get a blob error.
Any solution? Couldn't find it in this post.
Small tip: use an achievement server, gives almost 50% less RAM usage and you don't have to worry for item-server connection.
Does anybody have problem with the drops? I mean some accounts gets drop other dont..
I can get 3 instances of steam (main included) running no problem, but fourth and fifth both say "Platform Error: bad module 'bin/friendsui', not loading" when logging in, I've tried deleting the FriendsUI.dll from the steam folders, it just gets redownloaded as normal, but the error still appears.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Edit:
Okay, I managed to get past that problem, but still only 3 sandboxed instances of steam start, the fourth says "Out of memory", even though i have plenty of memory left, so how can I give sandboxie more memory to work with?
Hey guys, was just lurking and absorbing info but I'm kinda stuck.
Pretty new to PC gaming and have a question:
I have 2 instances of the game running, main and alt... but I actually have the game running... Can you walk me through a little more specifically on starting the game in text only mode? Is that something easy to undo when I actually want to, you know, play? Also I could really use a little more explanation on what I'm supposed to do with the steam apps folder. I think I get it...kind of... just don't wanna mess anything up.
Any help is appreciated, and thanks for the thread! I'll be idling all night tonight...but the game will actually be up :(

Answer to your every question can be found in the first post of this thread. Just read it thoroughly and you will get your answers.
To answer a few, textmode doesnt change any options in the game, so there is nothing to actually undo, all you need to do is start the game normally from steam instead of the textmode-shortcut.
Oh, and in the original guide when it says to type "cd C:\"Program Files (x86)"\Steam" to set the folder where you work from, its actually "cd /d C:\"Program Files (x86)"\Steam" but otherwise its just like the original guide says.
By following the original guide, there isn't really anything you can "mess up", so i wouldn't be worried about that if i were you.

This is the exact same problem I've been having. -textmode works in my main without sandboxie but nothing happens when I try it in Sandboxie.
Anyone got a solution to this?
I have a problem on the 4th step. When I go to launch steam in the Sandboxed windows explorer it just says:
"Steam.exe (main exception): Unable to write to the current steam application folder.
Please move Steam to a folder where you have write priviliges."
I have full access on C: drive in the sandbox settings.
Is it because steam is under 'C:\Users\Myname\Steam'?

Thanks for the reply, but no dice. I re-read everything thoroughly and I really just don't get it I guess. If anyone cares to hold my hand through the process of setting up the novid/nosound idling and setting up the shortcuts I'd really, really appreciate it. For the time being I guess I'll just run 2 full instances of the game.
"Make a copy of Steam without the steamapps folder for each account" (wut?)
"Navigate into each Steam folder without steamapps and run the following:" (huh?)
"sing batch files for easy startup: We need 2 batch files per account. Idle and Login." (ummm?)
:(
How do you buy multiple steam accounts? I only managed to buy 2 with 1 credit card and another one to buy the 3rd one .

Steam accounts are free to create, TF2 is free to download. You buy something from the Mann Co store (has to be above £4 because that's the minimum you can deposit in your Steam wallet).
You should be able to use the same card for all of them.

Yes,I already purchased 3 accounts but I had to use 2 different credit cards 1 of them had trouble with paying for third account so I decided to add another 10 dollars to my old account and it worked . Then I searched up in google and many people experienced this problem and steam support wrote that you can't use same credit card for multiple accounts . My question how OP bought like more than 5 accounts? Maybe even more today...

Paypal would probably work.
Hey guys, what's your resource usage amount? I'm using the "start /low X:\SF\groovu1\Steam.exe -login account password -applaunch 440 -textmode -novid -nosound -noipx -nojoy -nopreload -sw -width 640 -height 480 +map itemtest" and changed all my config files to a lowesting setting config I had and I'm still using about 700 - 800 MB of RAM per process.
Any other tricks to get it lower? I'm looking at this guys blog (http://keyfox-blog.net/?p=1463) and he some how gets his stuff down to 40-80 MB. Looking at his settings, it's the same as OP's.
sandboxie loading on games be getting public

Just for anyone that is curious, 12 is the highest number of items you can get each week. The amount of drops you can get each week is predetermined, so it may be less. Crates don't count towards your total.
LOL idling for items in a video game.
