• What's Your Opinion On Client-side Mods?

I dont use custom content because it makes my computer lagging. Also typing from school computers is fun.
I don't bother with them. I've seen a handful that are mildly interesting, like heart-shaped/TF2-logo-shaped health indicators, or artistically-drawn class icons, but none of that is interesting enough for me to actually download it. Never bother with custom skins/models because I haven't seen any that are outstandingly better than the defaults... At least not to a degree that I feel like downloading them and learning how to apply them. Bottom line is that I don't really give a shit
I love them. Not only some of them fix things that Valve never fixed, but some of them just look awesome. I mean, seriously why is the Spy in the HUD still Beta-styled? I dont like these ugly SUPER1337AWPSKINFORSNIPER skins or furry huds. :colbert: :3:
Server owners, spend 10 minutes whitelisting the appropriate stuff for us.
I play 100% vanilla but I don't look down on people who use clientside fixes, like the 4 slot GL or some animation issues.
Have to say, though, from all the mod I'm using, none of them is player related (no player skins/models, except for Spy the HD suit and the Fancy Dress Mod, but they don't affect the Spy itself). I don't like playerskins, because they remove some of the personality the classes got from the Meet the Videos.
Have 'em, Use 'em, Love 'em.
This, too. It's probably not included in the tags since it's technically an anti-cheat mechanism, so why would they let cheaters hone in on cheatable servers, but I think it's probably safe to say the amount of custom skin users greatly outnumbers the amount of cheaters at this point...custom content is what drives TF2 these days, especially with the promise of possibly getting your content in-game some day. Being able to use custom content in TF2 is an important feature now. They should let us find servers compatible with our skins.
Still wondering how one can actually cheat using custom content, other than hacks. The only things that come to mind are reskinning cloaked spies (which only works for teammates since cloaked enemy spies aren't rendered at all) and altering some sounds, like uncloaking spies, a medic with an uber ready, etc (where the spy uncloak thing wouldnt work properly, since again, at a certain range, the spy uncloak sound isn't played at all). The only other way of 'cheating' that comes to mind is to have reskins on all class models that indicate the head hitzone, which doesn't really make a difference at all, since getting headshots still relies on skill. aaanyway, sv_pure needs to gtfo. I had the brawler's blaster scattergun remodel installed and loved it, but just gave up at the point where every 2nd server I joined made the scout's viewmodel flip out, literally resulting in one arm being across the top of the screen horizontally, and a scattergun being quite much on the screen diagonally, blocking the view. And that includes the fpuk1 server. needless to say, my blacklist has a shitload of servers in it, sadly also including the fpuk1 server.
You can make enemies/healthkits/etc draw through walls.

Thats the sort of cheating sv_pure is supposed to combat.
You can make enemies/healthkits/etc draw through walls.
wallhacks, as far as I know, aren't possible simply with client-side mods other than actual hacks (which gets you VAC'd)
You could make red team bright red, and blue bright blue. Thats the sort of cheating sv_pure is supposed to combat.
I fail to see how that can actually be seen as cheating :/ Your combat ability still depends solely on skill, you just see your enemies slightly better (and since it already requires you to be quite much colorblind to not notice the difference between blue/red... yea)
wallhacks, as far as I know, aren't possible simply with client-side mods other than actual hacks (which gets you VAC'd)
If that was the case, why would I have said it?
If that was the case, why would I have said it?
because if it's actually possible, it would already exist and be adressed as a serious issue for quite a while.
Just to make clear I love some mods because they are fixes for stuff from beta, animations, some mods look even better than the original. But I use few of them because I got fed up with wireframe models or black-purple skins. Interesting is that hat mods are often okay despite weapons icons being replaced with standard ones.
What do you really mean opinion? I find it perfectly natural that most servers have sv_pure, that's to stop wallhacks and sound mods and what not. I do hate when I join a sv_pure server by accident and screw up my skins though. That being said, I love my skins and what not.
because if it's actually possible, it would already exist and be adressed as a serious issue for quite a while.
It does exist you dunce. EDDY/ Reag released a wallhack texture/ model specifically for the halloween update. valve included a shader parameter called "$ignorez", which, you guessed it, ignores the z-buffer priority. Putting that texture at the front of the frame being rendered. It is how our HUDs are done.
sv_pure is addressing the issue...
My problem is not with sv_pure but the terrible default whitelist, if you ask me.
sv_pure 1 servers should be defaulted to sv_pure 2. As I'm sure sv_pure 2 forces weapons and what not to revert to original instead of wireframes. So, my scattergun model would revert to the original scattergun.
Can sv_pure 1 fuck with custom sounds? I have a few sound fixes to download such as one that adds the shotgun pump after the soldier reloads (animation shows him pumping but sounds do not play) It turned my CS:S custom sounds into a staticky loud screechy mess and the only fix to that was (oddly) deleting your materials/temp folder, which I still do not understand why it would affect sounds.
