The Steam Community Marketplace Thread - Crates = Rolling in Cash
This year's festives will in no way be as expensive as last year's.
People know how expensive last year's festives were, and as such will try to get as many as possible this year, and they'll be quite common I reckon.
That doesn't change how people will try to hike the prices up due to it's limited availability, regardless of how commonplace it may be.

Yep, just like the Strange Rocket launcher. I remember it was only a few reclaimed when it first came out, maybe a refined a week after they stopped dropping those crates. Then when they redropped those crates, even while in full swing, they never went under 2 keys iirc
Well, since I don't have money and I've got all my games by selling items I can't use the market.
I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. We already had a blog post announcing the system, I can't really see this thread having any longevity. Once the initial discussion over how cool this new thing is dies down, I don't see much being left for this thread other than "hey guys I just listed x item for y dollars", which isn't exactly riveting reading, and also if the price was anything important (aka a large discount) you could just see it on the marketplace anyway.
I think there's room for discussion, but I wonder if a thread like this wouldn't be better served in the general Valve forum since its possibly going to expand to include DOTA and Portal 2.
...Well, DOTA anyway.
I have a few crates in the 20s and 30s, are they worth more than 2 cents?
Made 75 cents off a Naughty Crate. Now YOU can buy my book on how to become filthy rich by doing nothing!
I made a script to show the currently lowest price of items when you sell an item. This is not an abusive script and will not make you benefit in any unfair way, it will just help you save a few extra clicks if you list an item up for sale:

I also updated it today to work with DOTA 2 items.
sold a crate for £0.03
cashback
great idea though. i hope they integrate hats and shit before the christmas sale, so i can idle then sell a bunch of items to supplement my chrimbus money

If nothing else I'd like to see them integrate weapons. I've got a few Stranges I want to get rid of.
Wow, are series 5 crates really popular or something? Mine are selling like hotcakes. I'm rolling in the (virtual) small change over here. This was a bloody brilliant idea, hats off to whoever came up with it.
Whats the fucking point of having the market if people are just going to sell keys for 2 dollars?
I should just buy them from the store, I don't need those greedy fucks getting my money
you should take a gander at dota2 key's price :P

It's cheaper than buying from the store.
The money has already been paid to the Mann Co Store just to bring that key into existence, second-hand sales happen all the time, most notably with multimedia such as games, movies, music, and books. It happens with cars too.
The difference is that even though the item is pre-owned, the item still works just as well as it does when brand new. So the only reason to buy from the store is if you want to feed Valve more money (note that the combined 15% tax on Market sales goes to Valve already), or if you just detest second-hand sales due to viewing those salespeople as "greedy fucks."

As far as I know, 2 is less than 2.49.
But hey, it's your money. Do what you want.

I guess Valve transcends all blame of being greedy by first creating all keys and then taking a 15% cut for every marketplace resale
Wish i could trade..
What's the price for a Naughty/Nice Crate these days?
What's the price for a Naughty/Nice Crate these days?
1$/$0.10
1$/$0.10
Naughty is actually $ 1.80-1.95,
Nice is $ 0.15
I'd reccomend the greasemonkey item price finder if I wasn't on my ipod with no link to it.

Snip, wrong thread. How did I even get here?
I've made 22.38 $teambux from this. First I sold keys I bought with metal, then abused naughty keys in trades, then sold naughty crates, got lucky with a trade for a salvaged and did more small trading.
All in all, it's been fun.
i brought 4 keys for 1.90$ each + 2 name tags=70 cents each i used 1 key so far in buying stuff in trading.

Besides %15 is way too much of a fee, yes,it's actually fun.
Sold 15 naughty crates, made 30$, bought borderland 2, traded it for Blizz hoodie. Heck this shit is better than unboxing. 15 crates ---> unusual
Wishing I didn't give away all my stuff now.
Sold some Naughty Crates I found for some quick cash, Then used it to buy the All-Father. I can't wait till Valve adds hats to the Marketplace.
Neat; first crate sold about an hour ago to a Mr Lemons. 5p mightn't seem much, but it'll add up over time; plus now I'm into Dota 2, I am likely to find crate drops for the different heroes. Speaking of which, what is the average asking price of a Treasure of the Hunted Dragon? Are there many Dragon Knight players in the audience tonight?
Some of the prices are ridiculous.
$1 for ToD Ticket? What's the difference?
Premium Upgrade costs $5.20? I'd rather trade it from someone or buy it from Mann Co. Store. This goes for Backpack Expander as well.
Festive Keys are more expensive than the ones from the store.
i havent deleted a single crate since the series 2.
i have more than 400 crates stored in my alt.
my time has come.

Best hurry. After Jan 1st you can only do 200 trades a year.
