I'm sorry but how do I update the GFC's? What are they? Is there a button for that in this interface? Tyvm
I think he meant GCF's (Game Cache Files) instead of GFC's Its the button in the down left bottom labeled "Update GCF's"
Ok... since I have to validate 32 accounts... can I do multiple at one time? Does anyone know which files are "validate"? Also, are you guys disabling auto updates? What about steam cloud? Better to use it or not with idle accounts when running several?
Can someone help me please? I've been at this for hours and I can't figure out what's wrong. Whever I try to idle, I get this: http://imgur.com/X2MT5

You need to udpdate single account linked to your steamapps, after you can launch others.
I'm interested in hearing how many accounts everyone can idle at one time. Using one account as a server and having all the others connect to it I can idle 10 accounts simultaneously with 8GB of ram. What about everyone else?

I didn't ask how to update a single account because I did that... still having to validate all accounts. I'll figure it out myself. I was just curious if I could validate all my accounts at once or at least multiple at a time to speed up the process. I am still curious if folks are disabling updates on all their accounts and if there is any benefit to disabling cloud sync with tf2. Anyways... if anyone else that has some common decency might now know that please let me know :)

However, I have been settling with 20 so I can still browse the net without my CPU lagging.

Turns out the problem was with Sandboxie. All I had to do was uninstall my current version and install version 3.60. Hope this helps someone else!
I usually idle 9 accounts at once with 8GB of RAM, but it does slow down my computer a lot. Also just curious, what do you people do with the stuff you get from idling?
Turns out the problem was with Sandboxie. All I had to do was uninstall my current version and install version 3.60. Hope this helps someone else!
Turn off steam in-game would have helped too. Still a good thing to do.
I think he meant GCF's (Game Cache Files) instead of GFC's Its the button in the down left bottom labeled "Update GCF's"
Okay well I did that and it didn't really work. With some of my accounts I get the 'Validating Steam files error' and it never truly completes itself. When it does, I try to start TF2 and it just starts over.... My main account (the one where all the mklinks refer too) is okay and working, but somehow the other accounts don't understand it?

I'm thinking of upgrading to 16GB so I can idle more acounts at once. 45 accounts at once would be...amazing!
i am running 20 accounts at a time on my 4gb ram laptop and 20 accounts on my pc which has 16 gb ram still being able to play other games/do other stuff
I'm very interested in hearing your config options. My server account uses ~500MB and each client account uses ~250MB right now using -textmode -nosound -novideo -nojoy -nopix -nopreload. Additionally I've run into this error for the first time today: OnSteamSeverConnectFailure logged on = 0 Any ideas?
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but what's the easiest way to update steam for all of the idle accounts? Does that have something to do with the Update GCFs function?
Well updating GFC's doesn't work for me. I deleted them all... then let one account download tf2 again... finally I'm no longer validating files. I will give it another shot next update... if it does the same... I'll just delete tf2 every friggin update because it's way faster than validating multiple accounts multiple times. [editline]7th September 2012[/editline] 16 running strong. I can't seem to use the drop view/logger anymore with even this many accounts. It eats up 200mb+ of mem and eventually seems to cash tf2idle :(

Remember to start the backup Steam installation unsandboxed to finish the update process' I do that, I let the main Steam installation do that (the one where all the mklinks refer to), but it doesn't work..... Also when I try to update the GCFs, it gives me the 'file copy error', 'The GCFs could not be copied'. I don't get it anymore, every update just breaks my whole idling
Can you share config of your accounts? i5 proccesor.4 gb ram my desktop computer gets totally useless with about 10 accounts
Hi, I don't know where exactly i got my idle config, but i am sure it was eighter here or in the advanced manncomony thread, I've got i3 on my laptop, 4 GB ram and some random hard drive, I might run 20 accounts at a time (1 server and 19 clients), but i am basically pushing it to the very limit, I can barely even open opera browser running 20 accounts and it takes about one hour to set them all. OnSteamSeverConnectFailure logged on = 0 means you lost connection with steam, my internet connection is not so stable whatsoever so i get this message almost every day, i think everybody got this error yesterday at least twice, if you lose connection to steam for too long, you won't get any new items after you are connected again, if you are disconnected for only few seconds, you will regain connection to steam, eventually get a client schema is up to date message and have to wait around 40 minutes to get another items (except crates).
The validating bs happens now and then to me too after updates. Basically it's a common bug after updates and you can either verify game cache for each account, delete tf folder for each account, or if worse comes to worse you can reinstall TF2. Basic troubleshooting, but a real pain in the ass when managing so many accounts.

I had this problem before using tf2idle... and I should have started testing with 2-3 accounts not 30-40 lol. I wish I could have just deleted my GFC's to start with for my idle accounts. My setup is a little different from most... I don't play tf2 on this computer so I only have a single steam installation on a second drive. Now that things are good... I'm looking to get 70 more accounts somehow... need to research and figure out a legit way to do this. Have seen some good tips on this thread.

I'm running a similar config too... I just finished getting my setup running smooth and setup a friend with tf2idle :D I can run 16 clients and still use the computer somewhat with a E8400 and 8gb memory. Next on my list is memory tweaking... So I'll post anything I figure out. I'm sure you guys already know but disable in-game steam. Someone posted a map that may use less resources... I don't have the details handy but it's something I'm going to try. I'm using 480mb'ish for my "server" and about 230 for the "clients". I have played around with -heapsize but I'm not sure how much it has really helped. If you're running Win7 and you don't really use the computer for anything else you can disable the Superfetch and Indexing which would save a nice chunk of memory. I was able to run an addition 2 accounts after doing this. Sorry for the scatter brain post... long night :D
I can remember calc "0.77 ref per account each week"
Found this log actually, 0,778625 refined per account, no new items, no salvaged, no name tags for long time, so this number should be higher for sure. Also, still trading old tf2-premiums for 2 keys each (PM).
I was just wondering, if you appear offline in your friendlist, will items still drop?
I was just wondering, if you appear offline in your friendlist, will items still drop?
Yes. I've never idled any other way.
Do you guys use software to free memory? Also can't you just set yourselves up with massive pagefiles?
