Every time I try starting Steam/TF2 from the program, start.exe crashes.
I've followed the guide EXACTLY, reinstalled sandboxie 3 times, and done the guide 3 times.
No Sandboxie is not pirated. Windows 7 64 bit.
I should note that if I hit the Start Program button I can get steam running, but not TF2
Edit: odd, starting TF2Idle via sandboxie makes steam load, but it tries to load up all the copies of steam within that one sandbox, so yeah...
backup tf2 files (make sure client is up to date), remove tf2, restore tf2 from a steam backup files, now you should idle without any problems, next time make sure you don't update tf2 using a sandboxed steam
Are you supposed to do this for every account or just one? I tried it on one account and still have the validating account issues for the majority of my accounts. :(
EDIT: User error, I neglected to uninstall TF2 derp.

Didn't work......
Didn't work......
I had the same problem. Like has been said already it happens when a TF2 update is downloaded while idle accounts are still running.
To fix it what i did was:
-delete the gcf files in my sandboxie folder
-copy the the gcf files from my main account to my sandboxie folder
Of course make sure steam is not running while doing this.

works for me* on both of my idling machines

I'm not sure what you mean by deleting the gcf files in the sandboxie folder, if you mean the extra steam folders created for each idle account my steamapps is linked to my original install folder like in the tut linked in the op.

What is your idle machine specs and how many account can you run on each of them?
For those of you interested I have been having severe issues compiling my latest code into an executable, as the result of an irritatingly difficult bug to pin down with the compiler. Since I don't have a lot of free time it will be a while before I can really figure this issue out.
In the meantime if you're interested in trying out autoreconnect and are comfortable with running python scripts, then checkout the latest code from the 'smartidle' branch here and let me know of any issues
The issue has something to do with my laptop. I copied the files to my desktop and Steam starts fine from Sandboxie. If anyone could lend a hand it'd help, but I'll try and figure it out on my own.

The gcf files are in your steamapps folder. They contain all the models, materials, sounds, etc of the game. This is what i have:

winui.gcf
multiplayer ob binaries.gcf
orangebox media.gcf

Hi I was wondering how does it check to see if there was an error and needs to reconnect ?

Does this reconnect applies to errors like "could not connect steam network"?

It periodically checks the output of the status command for these strings. If it finds any of them it will restart the game. If you want other strings included then please give me the exact string to look for.

Any luck on drop log stopping working after awhile?
I'm idling more than 1 months now but i never succeded on logging an whole session.
Another thing i noticed is,if i'm active, moving windows or clicking something, drop log works out fine. But if i go afk, bam, its gone.
I've tried the new build but so far I had no luck, some accounts don't start because of steam errors (the usual, but I don't think the reconnect checks for that), and even some Bad Challenge errors.
I think it may be because of my symlink setup but i'm not sure.
Where does it search for that specific textmode windows? (or how does it find the right one ?)
[editline]Edit[/editline]
Looks like it uses the status_output.txt on the /tf folder, in my configuration I have that folder symlinked so all the accounts use the same tf folder and the same output file, I will try without the symlink.
1. Picked multiple accounts.
2. Changed "Groups".
3. Each "Sandbox path" set to this.

Here's what you can do whenever TF2 has an update:
1. Close out of all the steams
2. Click the Update GCFs button
3. After that delete the alt-account's ClientRegistry.blob files for every account.
4. Start idling
It works for me and it's easier than starting up each account unsandboxied.
If no one has posted a fix for the "validating" bull, I have one.
Using the method posted by Iviv, you will only need to change a few things. In the first folder you make, instead of copying your files from your steam folder, you just need to put a copy of Steam.exe itself in there. Like so.

Then you will run that Steam.exe in sandboxed mode manually once.

You will then need to log in to steam on any account and download TF2 into this folder. The end result will be this.

A normal looking steam. Now copy every thing BUT the steamapps folder and paste it into each of the other idle accounts folders you have made.
Now, where Iviv told you about the miracle known as symlink, you only need to change a little bit.
Complete guide to using TF2Idle
Open up a command prompt (Not sure if you need admin rights, but run it as an admin just in case), and navigate to the first idle steam folder (c:\idle\steam1 for me)
Once there type the following:
mklink /D steamapps "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps"
Now instead of using
mklink /D steamapps "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps"
You are going to use
mklink /D steamapps "C:\idle\idle1\Steam\Steamapps"
with the CD set to C:\idle\idle2 instead of C:\idle\idle1
Therefor making a symlink to the TF2 GCF made just for your idle accounts. Do this with all your other accounts. Now follow Iviv's tutorial to a T after that and all shall be well.
I know this takes up a bit more space on your hard drive, but this will make it almost 100% percent unlikely that you will have to deal with the "validating" bull. The validating message pops up because you had your idle account running while your steam updated your TF2 GCF, therefor causing it to change something that was in use. If you happen to be idleing and have this happen durring a major update, it can damage your GCF to the point that you need to redownlod TF2 in all it's 10gb glory again. So as long as you don't leave one idle open and not idleing and others idleing when an update comes out using my method, you should never get a "validating" message. Just after an update launch just one account and let it download the update before you start to mass idle.
Hope this helps guys. Enjoy :D
Anyone here know if Sandboxie and TF2Idle work fine in Windows 8? I'm considering upgrading.
How does everybody trade items from their idlers to their main account? Is there a better way than doing it manually?
I have a question, each time I re-open TF2Idle, I have to redo all my settings and account information. It's quite annoying..
Any ideas/help? I can idle just fine, it's just I cannot save my account information.

Make sure your tf2idle.ini not set readonly.
Anyone else crashing when TF2 starts?
Anyone else crashing when TF2 starts?
Yep.
Yes, just tried to get 3 working at once.. All crashed. Uh oh. Back to non text mode idling for now.
I just found out a fix. Delete the tf2/bin folder of all accounts. The game will remake the bin folder on launch and it'll run without problems.
Compact freed 368640 bytes <-- can someone tell me what is this? it shows up on all idle sandboxie text mode

nothing you should be worried about
Does the automatic sandbox feature work?
Anyone here know if Sandboxie and TF2Idle work fine in Windows 8? I'm considering upgrading.
Works fine here. I had to delete the Team Fortress 2 folder for each account though, since HL2.exe was crashing on start. Make sure you've updated Sandboxie to 3.74 and ignore any warnings.
