Are you sure you haven't just hit your weekly cap?
1000% sure cause i've been away for a while and tf2 hasn't been opened.
Verified the files (which are linked to my main steamapps folder anyway) and still the same problem.
Could you tell us more detail? Does the cmd window appear? Does it say the "<username> has connected" message?
nothing like that shows up. it's just the program.
Hullo there.
I've been using 1.6.0 for a while now, and I've only just noticed since a few days ago that 1.9.3 was up.
So, I've managed to understand the new folder layout, and edited all my accounts into the TF2Config.py file, but when I try to run TF2Idle.py, all I get is a flicker of a cmd window and not a program.
I'm not quite sure what's wrong. Could someone kindly assist me with this?

Are you actually getting any drops? Have you checked using a backpack viewer?

I'm not sure how you managed that but you're using the scripts for the original TF2Idle, which was originally just a command line tool :) You need to grab the latest program from here
I'm testing low priority version and even though launching accounts and terminating sandboxes take a bit more time, overall performance in the idling machine appears to have increased and accounts are running more smoothly.Great work!
Also, just discovered that there's an open source steam bot (https://github.com/Jessecar96/SteamBot) which appears to commonly used in auto-trading bots, and donation bots etc.
Is there any project of that kinda feature for tf2idle?
I managed to make it work, apparently it wasn't working because I selected the Sandbox folders and not the Sandboxie installation location.

I wish, but that program is written in C# and would be a huge amount of work to port over. I'd pretty much have to get intimate with Steamkit and how trading works in Steam. TL;DR don't expect trading features any time soon.

Update released. Thanks to GitHub disabling their downloads section, all past and future versions of TF2Idle can now be found on google code here. The source code will remain on GitHub. Here are the notes:
* Version 1.9.5
** Add item values to items in drop log using the backpack.tf IGetPrices API
** Steam and TF2 now starts in low priority mode
** Improved identification of dropped items
** Save account and program settings to config file on every change rather than just on program exit
** Added setting for auto-logging idled accounts
** Fixed some wording on dialogs
** Only show crate series on normal crates
** Fix bug with window size not being saved if close to tray is enabled
For those interested you can see all the code changes since 1.9.3 here :)
Please excuse me for not reading every other post, but, are we even allowed to use such programs to idle? I remember something regarding Steam banning many accounts of players who used third party programs to idle in TF2 back in 2009 or so.
yes i did, i'm pretty sure it has smth to do with the updates i'll figure it out, thanks anyways!
Hello everyone!
First of all I'd like to express my gratitude to Moussekateer for his devotion to the project and for sharing it with us - this program is a GREAT piece of "010010101" ;))) - i mena i rly LOVE it.
Of course i also thanks to the community for your patience and guidance in this thread.
However, im not posting only to share my love ... :(
I went through almost the whole topic twice - just because my curiosity and found many issues that are appearing again and again and i BET that there already was the answer to my question but it's hard to navigate through all these pages to find it again :( (search option is not working for me dunno why).
Anyway If you could help me with my idle steams which are always updating (~5 sec's updates)? I mean how to make them work fine and login without these updates? I came up with updating one in unsandboxed and copying the steam files (to the rest steam folders) manually but it's strenuous and painful :/ I also haven't found any detailed info on the GCF's - how to use them and what are they for (fixing the cache defrag loop bug?)?
And again, thank you all for your patience - btw im thinking of gathering most common issues in one place to make the access to information easier.
Hey, i have the same problem you have, and i wonder if you could please tell me which files you are copying and where you paste them,?
Hey how exactly is the easy sandbox mode used? I can't seem to get it to work.
What would be the downside to just linking all the accounts to the same "team fortress 2" folder? Seems like it would save a lot of space.
I get this cmd window quickly pop up and close when I try to either Start Idling, Launch TF2, or Launch Steam:

The idle steam will still launch despite this error, however it gives me a login steam error and I have to input the pass manually. After logging in, neither Start Idling, Launch TF2, or Launch Steam work to launch TF2. Seems like all these issues stem from one place but I don't know, if someone had previously encountered this I'd appreciate it if you could point me in the correct direction.
What would be the downside to just linking all the accounts to the same "team fortress 2" folder? However, you can probably achieve the result you're looking for using a deduplicating filesystem.
Hi, thx this program is awsome.
I have problem only with steambox... doesnt matter how mach space I set to the file migration it will still crash, due to small amount of memory. Any solution?
Thanks :D
I found out that if you symlink(mklink) the steamapps folders but forget to write the /d it will error with "Could not connect to steam network" when you try launching steam for that account. It won't actually make a /steamapps symlink folder in the steam directory either, so it's an easy error to track down, but it could be confusing if you're setting it up the first time around.
Might be worth noting

I can see a %H in there which should not happen unless you've done something weird with the paths. What are all your paths? What are your launch options?

Gave this a shot, but it doesn't seem to work very well on windows. I allocated 1600MB for the mount process, but copying over my steamapps folder to the volume would always give me out of memory errors. I can't find any way to prevent it, it even does it when I'm not copying over files. It just eventually exceeds what it has allocated.
Odd problem with 1.9.5 here...
I downloaded 1.9.5 and ran it last night to idle, and after getting a couple of innocent errors while idling I realized that my accounts' settings were old (almost a couple weeks old, as I had restructured my idling folders to take up less space recently). I fixed the problem by putting in the correct steam.exe paths where needed and idled fine through the night.
Now, here is the real problem. I opened up TF2Idle tonight, and it had no accounts in it and no settings saved. I check tf2idle.ini and it has been wiped to the default settings. The only thing that has changed after weeks of idling without a problem, was swapping 1.9.3 for 1.9.5. Fortunately I have a much older backup of tf2idle.ini to work with, because without it, I'd be looking at at least an hour's work of restoring accounts and settings.
I've also never had this problem upgrading from any other version before, so I'd recommend making a backup of your settings before running the new version.
*EDIT: What I thought was an *old* backup of tf2idle.ini appears to be very new. This file had been in *username*/Documents where I used it with 1.6.0 and earlier, but had remained untouched since I moved TF2Idle into its own folder (C:\Idle) with the steam paths some time ago. From what I can tell, when I ran 1.9.5 (from C:\Idle) last night, it somehow used and saved into the My Docs directory. All I know is the end result: the 'what should have been old' config had a date modified time that corresponded to when I ran TF2Idle last night, and the config in the same directory as 1.9.5 was set to default...
Now with just a couple changes, my config is back and seems to be working.
Is there a way to not having to update steam on every idle acc? each update?
Guys I keep getting this error: http://puu.sh/1DvBx I am aware that there is a "/" before steam but first of all, I have no idea how that came to be or how to change it. Help pls :<
This is becoming more and more a pain now. Not the program, its fine. I mean Steam and its constant validating files. I've deleted/renamed client registry and reinstalled steam on each of the accounts more than I want to count. I have also re-copied a fresh set of the TF2 files from my main account which has had none of these issues whatsoever.
The problem comes when account #1 I fix and tf2 opens up just fine, to account #2 using those same tf2 files somehow now goes through Validating files.
Argh...

Do not use your main steam installation bro and i accidently rated funny for it sorry.
i miss the days when i could just select all my accounts and click start idling and 10 minutes later all accounts were up and running.Validating makes me a sad panda

* Go to your 2nd steamappss Folder
* Delete all the tf2 .gcf files
* Open TF2Idle.exe and update GCFs
* After that, open steam from your sencod folder (without sandboxie) now try to run TF2, if you cant, an update will begins, it could be from 100 mb to 3 gb (but after that it will works fine again) and maybe with some luck you havent to download anything.
Hey
whats the cheapest way to make an account premium?
Hey

Do it now. Usually you put 5$ on the account and buy two regular keys, you recoup half the cost it took to make the account. Right now you can buy two naughty winter keys and sell them for two keys each, recouping the full cost of the account.

I have no money.
Any chance you could gift 5 bucks via paypal and then I could pay you back 2 keys?

because we all need keys 2.5$ each.
What is the average Memory usage per idle account? I only have 2 at the moment but both are about 400k memory. Is that normal or average?
